- According to an autopsy report, “Friends” star Matthew Perry died from the “acute effects of ketamine.” Ketamine is an anesthetic and anti-depressant sometimes used to treat addiction. The report says the ketamine that caused his death was found in his stomach and suggests he may have been using the drug recreationally. The report says that contributing factors to the 54-year-old's death included drowning, coronary artery disease and the drug buprenorphine, which is used to treat opioid addiction.
I just listened to his book. Sad that just when he seemed to quit the alcohol, drugs, cigarettes, and was ready to settle down, this happened. Very tragic.
He's never quit. Just pretended he did.
so the book was a lie
But he didn't quit
Listen to his book? Cant you read?
@@Steger13 Never heard of audiobooks? Can't you hear? lmao
Drugs, COPD, Diabetes, Emphysema plus heart disease, and smoking...his heart couldn't take it anymore.
A important lesson
Health wise he's better off this way his days must of just been horrible for him
Nah" well maybe"
He was MURDERED ❗️🙏🏼✝️😔
I never heard he has all that wrong with him
It wasn't really that his heart couldn't take anymore. Come on now anyone who was drinking and doing drugs without the common sense to not get in a relaxing hot tub, then fall asleep. That got nothing to do with it being too much for their heart to handle. Uncontrolled stupidity. He will be missed. Let this be a lesson for All. Use common sense when drugging recreationally then relaxing in any kind of tub. My divine opinion.
My heart goes out for every person who is struggling with addiction right now. Matthew struggled with opiate addiction for decades but managed to always show up at work and be completely brilliant. He was one of a kind, he made us laugh and gave us joy even when he was hurting
us who struggle the most, do it in quiet unfortunately
No one struggles with addiction, it is a CHOICE by every person, no one forces the drugs on anyone
oh yea and my name matthew
Matthew CHOSE to be a drunk and a druggie, he was never sober and scammed Americans
Rest in peace everyone battling addiction is a life warrior he lost he’s fight hope he’s resting nice and for sure better where he is now god bless you my brother only the ones that has really struggled with that demon addiction understand what we ho through
RIP Matthew Perry. The fact that your priority was to help others says what type of person you were. ❤❤
Depression is a killer. No amount of money or game can cure it. Just sad.
He wasn't using it for depression 🙄 they blatantly said it
Good cognitive therapy is statistically very effective. So sad Matthew shelled out so much money for ineffectual care.
Money sure helps and he would've been even more depressed without that money.
@@PartlySunny74he tried every kind of therapy known to man.
Jesus Christ heals depression.
_"dont swim or drink alcohol after treatment for at least 2 weeks."_

Perry was a seriously messed up guy. His premature death is a true tragedy but, he's been spared the horrifically unhealthy life that would've been facing him as he aged. May he finally have peaceful relief from the issues that tortured him.
So sad. Addiction hurts everyone.
He is finally free of the addiction that had a hold over him RIP Matthew Perry
Matthew destroyed his life by CHOICE, there's no such thing as addiction, no one forced the drugs down his throat, he CHOSE not to be responsible and felt sorry for himself
God that’s really cruel. No one but him knows what he was going through. He may have had a mental illness or trauma or something we don’t understand. How did you get so bloody cruel and unfeeling? I wish you the good because you really need it.
And George Floyd.
Nope, and cop kneeled on him. No one dies from ketamine. Put someone in prison.
He lived life like he wanted not scary like you@@swolfe9668
Rest in peace to Matthew Perry. He was a really fantastic actor in friends as Chandler. We will never forget him! 😢
Actor! Gfy.
Very sad. He certainly tried hard to keep his addiction under control! He helped many people also by being transparent and openly tell his story he fought to stay sober. That is all one can do with additions. 😢
The whole thing is sad. Let him rest in peace. 😢
Drug addict ruined his health & finally died from it. It's the same sad story I've seen too many times.
His soul was a tortured one.
It was his choice, he had everything
Dude was a train wreck. How sad.
This surprises no one.
I never understand giving an addict a strong drug, anesthetic, to treat their addiction. It just trades one for the other
exactly! esp when weed kills no one & actually helps lower blood pressure. the last thing he needed were drugs to raise it
Nope, and cop kneeled on him. No one dies from ketamine. Put someone in prison.
And no monitoring!
Because there is pretty good evidence for ketamine being effective at treating addiction, and ketamine itself has very low potential for addiction. Methadone is also used to treat opioid addiction despite it also being an opioid itself. It's really not a difficult concept to understand, just because it doesn't make sense to you based on your limited knowledge of drugs and medicine doesn't mean it is a bad idea or is ineffective, this is just an appeal to common sense and is not a rational approach.
@Dogheadpunch what does this even mean? Were you on ketamine when you wrote this comment? It's unintelligible.
REST IN PEACE I used to watch friends all the time with my sisters
Man, poor guy. All that because your coping from past trauma. You need all those things to drown out your inner depression. I do pray for him and all his loved ones !
Prayers don't do anything, but you're right I hope his family is doing alright. RIP
54? Only 54? I'm looking better than that at more than a decade older.
Weird to compare yourself with someone who died. Good for you I guess?

So⁉️
Well, he was a drunk and a junkie for over 30 years. What do you expect?
@@EddieHenderson92
These were people whose livelihood depended on their looks.
So .... in layman's terms.... drug overdose?
Normally overdose means opioids, but yes. But ketamine is legitimately amazing at treating treatment resistant manic depression, never had anything touch it but the days after a ketamine infusion I felt like a normal human. Honestly i just think we're lying to ourselves about abstinence being the only way out, take a look at how countries like switzerland handled the opioid crisis (which is likely a huge contributer to his depression, once youre an opioid addict you'll never felt like you once did, it's like being given sight when you were blind your whole life and then having it snatched away, it's insidious)
Definitely an overdose. I think the coroner blamed the ketamine out of respect for the actor. Especially since there was opium in his system too.
yes but they specifically named the drug to start a scare and demonize it. you don't generally see news outlets mention the specific drug involved in an overdose story.
@@YourMom-rg5jk Really? What about 'Fentanyl'? Remember what news story made that drug famous?
Money doesn't buy happiness
It does buy ket though
The only thing deadlier than never giving up drugs is giving them up and going back to them when your mind craves a dose your body can no longer handle…
As an RN, we see this all the time. Patients think they can use just once after they’re clean for awhile and it’s even more deadly. Probably used more to reach a high due to his addiction history. The combination of his other ailments PLUS a hot tub is a lethal mix.
The only thing deadly then life itself is life itself
He was talking a low dose for depression/anxiety. He was trying
@@tonistark4169Sadly true😢
It's crazy to see a drug addict die from drugs I would have never guessed it
I guess you live for ever
Im shocked they revealed all this information without the familys permission. Matty was struggling with addiction most of his life he did try to get help but his body was just so damaged from the drugs. His age and some weight gain and constant health and drug problems very lucky he lived to be in his 50's with all the drugs, colon ruptured, depression, diabetes, alcohol, cigarettes. Poor man was just struggling to survive. His finally in peace lets let him finally have peace. He lived a life of struggle and addiction and no matter how rich and famous he was the drugs took his life. 🙏💔
You can't call him Matty you disgust me
Coroners report is public information, wtf do you need family's permission for ?
@@donpeace894Why is that disgusting to call him Matty many people have called him that name. That's out of respect he feels like a friend watching him on friends all these years. Rest in Peace.
WTF....who released his medical records
The family.
Damn what happen to medical records being private???
Drugs?
Shocker.
Why would any doctor give ketamine to an opiod addict?????
Hollywood people get anything they want.
There have been studies that show Ketamine in controlled doses help with many addictions and depression.
@@iamyou3080 that's super risky. As a recovering opioid addict myself, this blows my mind.
Ketamine induces BDNF, increasing levels of BDNF is very significantly connected to recovery from depression and addiction.
Thanks for the laughter, Matt. Gone too soon ❤
This wasn't done under therapy. This was done on his own. Don't blame the Ketamine or the treatments.
Blame life
I thought he died from drugs now i know he did.
Another celebrity who can’t do his job without being under the influence.
So he was still on drugs. Imagine that.
I’m so sad to hear this. Addiction sucks.
Living the sober life on ketamine and buproprion
COPD, diabetes, emphysema, drug addiction, etc.???? Poor guy was a ticking time bomb.
i assume the 2 packs a day of cigarettes caused the COPD
Aren't we all a ticking time bomb though
A tragic waste of a life.
Leave the guy alone , his life was his choice
Poor Matthew … he had a laundry list of sadness
Matthew brought on his own problems by CHOICE, he felt sorry for himself
If this isn't a breach of HIIPA....! I Can understand them reporting on what contributed to his immediate death, but to give his whole medical history is just disrespectful!!! Dying shouldn't mean your medical records suddenly become public property. I hope the family looks into who sold his medical history to the news. 🤬
May he R.I.P
I 100% agree with you!!!!
😮
these might already be things he'd publicly talked about at some point
H.i.p.a. is only for medical personnel.. they can't share information about patients..
But a death cirtificate is a matter of public record unless the family seals it..
Once you're dead, everything is public record, where you been?
So he basically OD in the hot tub from drugs that were supposed to help him get off drugs
Yep, it sounds that way. It's possible the effects of drug treatment combined with the hot tub actually killed him.
Damn so even after all that.. dude was still smoking 2 packs a day and on special k.. he was never really sober imo. Tragic either way rest in peace Matthew hopefully you found some peace
How can drowning be part of it? It’s either one of the other. If he would’ve been on land and wouldn’t of died then it wasn’t from ketamine.
You know doesn't matter how much money you make. You still could be lonely. And apparently he was lonely. What a terrible way to go.
Why in the world would a drug like this be prescribed to an addict?
Fax. But he would have flipped out anyways
He was far from in a good place. He was just fooling everyone. That’s what depression does.
Ketamine? No, I was not expecting that one!
So sad to treat your body so badly!
So what
It's temporary
Once taken, drugs never let anyone out of its claws.
WHERE did he get Ketamine ?
A horse
I mean, I’ve been recovering from an 18 year addiction. so bro had opiate induced constipation so bad that his colon exploded. Damn.
I’m just finishing his book. It’s absolutely a miracle he lived as long as he did. Very sad.
One could say he died doing what he loved.
Drinking water?
I had so hoped they wouldn’t find drug use. Poor man; it sounds like his demons found him.
Unrelated, I don’t know if I’ve been living under a rock or what but I had no clue he had all these health issues.
After Matthew Perry died, I'd heard that he was taking medication for COPD. However,
I had no idea that he'd also had emphysema and diabetes. 🥺🦇💔
Holy cow, poor guy had lots of ailments. I feel bad for him. Never a violent guy. Bummer.
Wow, dude was a mess. Probably best that he's now resting in peace.
Unfortunately, we can't know that for sure.
Or waking up in hell.
That is so sad rest in peace Matt
Celebrities and their addictions. What a sad way to end your story.
Ketamine is also used as an anesthetic by veterinarians.
Just very, very sad. He so wanted to be well.
At least there's some closure. RIP to Matthew and prayers sent to his friends and family
That stuff is no joke when taken in large quantities.
I think it's kinda funny when people choose to ignore warnings where death is a real possibility.
the most fked up I've ever seen a person was someone on ketamine
@@joeg5414 So, I assume that Matt did not have a prescription nor a dosage?
Then it,s even funnier that he died from illegal drugs and suffered the consequences.
Noo, really??
@@user-ip9ru1ca1t Well the drug use, 2 packs of cigarettes a day, the alcohol, and COPD, diabetes, and whatever else he was experiencing, then it's fantastic that he almost made it to 60.
Acute effects of abusing illicit drugs
How do they know that someone did not put it in something like a drink and him not know that someone did this to him????????
May he finally Rest in Peace ☝🏻☝🏻💔
Hard to understand why so many entertainers go the drug lifestyle. So many people care more about them then they care about themselves. This is not criticism, just painful observation.
And for a minute I thought hot tubs were the silent killer
Jesus! 2 packs of cigarettes a day?!
“Acute effect” Aka…ketamine overdose
Ketamine is an amazing antidepressant in small doses. But if you take too much recreationally you can go into an unresponsive zombie-like state called the 'K-hole'. Definitely not something to be taking abundantly when alone in a bathtub.
Isnt Special K also a cat tranquilizer? Back in the day that was a party drug ...

Andre braugher was lame for so many reasons. Rip Matthew Perry.
So according to a friend Perry was lying to everyone including himself about being sober. Read all the drugs found in his system. Shades of Michael Jackson. Perry was trying to sell his book when he agreed to do interviews. I didn't believe a word of what he said. He's been trying to kill himself for decades, he finally accomplished that. Maybe not that he's dead he can be at peace.@@sdotyes
We’ll still remember your name, Mattman.
I remember when “acute effects” was still call “an overdose”.
I remember when a "social justice uprising" was still called "a riot". I also remember when "safe and effective" was still called "big pharma lobbying".
It was because ot was a combination of things, one being he drowned
Rest in peace Matthew Perry🙏
I am not a doctor, but I believe it is unwise to ingest ketamine unless you have close at hand medical monitoring.
acute effects? shows you how old i am. back in my day with called that overdosing

He was a beloved actor. I wish someone had educated him on transfer addictions. You must treat the root cause.
In his biography he identifies his disrupted childhood as the root cause. He did receive psychological counselling, including hypnosis, but he always reverted to prescription and illegal drugs, and alcohol to mask his pain.
Perry opens his memoir with the revelation that he almost died a few years ago at age 49.
Publicly acknowledging at the time that he suffered from a gastrointestinal perforation, the actor had actually spent weeks fighting for his life after his colon burst from opioid overuse. He spent two weeks in a coma and five months in the hospital and had to use a colostomy bag for nine months.
And the doctors decide to treat him with another opioid.
@@kimberlybrown5348sadly that happens quite often.
I’m almost finished with his book! He nearly died several times- it’s absolutely heartbreaking, yet maddening at the same time.
There is no such thing as your Colon bursting from Opiods use. Now you can get impacted stool from being constipated and you can get. Constipated Severely when you use opiods. But one knows they aren't pooping and they remedy it.. if they dont.. you can have bursting.

This makes me so sad.. this medicine has so many positive effects in a clinical setting. I'm sad no one told him the number one rule is do not get in the water! Please spread the word that this combination is extremely unsafe 😥
This is one of the scary things of Ket. I looked into this for chronic pain management (the idea is to reset the brain) and was told you can have "spikes" for 2 weeks after each time. So avoid swimming or drinking.
Never went through with it, the costs were shocking for something that needs at least 6 times to work on average but typically 10+

Never do ketamine in or near water. If you fall into a k hole, you'll lose your ability to move, and you'll drown.
I just saw Matthew in Ron Clark and he was phenomenal in this movie as a teacher. He was so much more than just Friends.

@glenbard657 Oh yeah, thanks for reminding me. I was wondering about that. She was/is my favorite female singer and activist.
Rest easy Matthew ❤
Addiction never leaves you .
As someone who takes ketamine, it's not an oral medication. Wtf was it doing in his stomach?
If he sniffed it, some would drip from his sinuses down his throat and into his stomach
I know nothing about it but since they mentioned recreational use, I’m wondering if you could get in that form through less than legal means.
@@candacechavigne5560 it wouldn't do anything if you ingested it

He was still getting high
So he overdosed?
Yes.
Usually you cant get ketamine when on suboxone or generic bup.
