The 5th Element Director's Cut V4.7756 brought me here - Thank Dr Hoffman and this was played at my funeral turn out of 144,000 people it was one jolly Holyday #PierceConan
Commonly it is thought that this song is just generally about life and death. We are all just dust in the wind. However, I saw an interview 20-30 (?) years ago where the writer was saying that he had gotten into Native American history, mythology, and especially poetry. He was reading through some Native American poetry and came across this poem/ song about the Trail of Tears. (The Trail of Tears was an ethnic cleansing and forced displacement of approximately 60,000 people of the "Five Civilized Tribes" between 1830 and 1850 by the United States government. Wikipedia) It was written by the Chief and was about how no matter what he or his tribe did, it was all fruitless and meaningless. They were beaten. All the treaties made had been broken by the Army and the Great White Fathers in Washington. Everything they did was "just a drop of water in an endless sea" and they were now on the Trail of Tears and just "dust in the wind." When you listen to this song in the context originally meant, it takes on a whole new dimension, whole new meaning. The anguish, suffering, death, and worst of all despair of the shattered people forced on the Trail of Tears drips from every word.
I almost didn't upload it at all since there was already a copy of the full mix on UA-cam, but the CD I have had the tracks split up, so I thought I'd post it in case anyone was looking for a specific song.
Dude is so good. I seen him live at Hobart College in Tasmania with Charlie 2na. Never forget
Still one of my favorite mixes to this day. Z Trip is so underrated
I saw him play this live at the first Bonaroo as the sun went down and it will always be etched in my brain. Truly magical moment.
I miss listening to DJ mixes...I used to listen to this whole album on repeat...takes me back to listen to the songs
The best mix ever!

All we do, crumbles thru the ground we refuse to see…
Too much truth in one sentence!
