Thanks for watching everyone! I have a few more Artist Guitar videos coming up! If you want to check it out, check the links below for prices etc. This is a great value guitar with a great set of pickups. 😎 🇦🇺 Australia - alnk.to/5ugJA8Q 🇬🇧 UK - alnk.to/flxavQN 🇺🇸 USA - alnk.to/5Fbuz03 (affiliate links)
I purchased one of these as a customer return a few months ago after seeing your earlier review and presumed the reason for return was the weight. It was perfect out of the box and about $A80 off so a bargain. It is heavy, but one of my main basses is just over 5.2kg, it doesn't bother me at all. It sounds and plays great, and when I took it to my instructor, he played it and said 'you paid how ******* much?' as he loved how it felt and sounded. In the NY, I'm going to order an LP59 based on your recent review as I love the stacked P90 sounds and I have nothing Gibsonish and I like the new colour better. The TC59, LP59 and my PRS SE should cover all I ever need. Love the channel Shane, keep up the good work. Now I've watched this, it reminds me I need to woodshed some more...
I remember getting my TC59 one day before you back on October 2019. Still one of the nicest necks I own. Mine tips the scales at 4.800kg. Often think about giving it a belly cut and arm carve as well as some holes under the pickguard. I totallly agree with you. The weight is the only complaint. Plays great and sounds awesome.
Hey Shane! As a result of your first review I got one of these about 18 months ago for £90. It was a customer return with some minor issues that were easy to fix and the frets were a bit scratchy, but again no big deal. I still think it's great and I really love the neck. With it's weight and the Bull Buckers it sounds really good. Perhaps the only tone it can't get is the slanting single coil bridge p/u in the full ashtray. The set up good and played well out of the box, although I generally play with lighter strings. Like you the only things I would (and probably will) change are the controls, but again a minor thing for a guitar that delivers so much for it's price!
Sounds great, though to be honest I've never heard a guitar sound crap on this channel! That guitar is £169 here in the UK - Crazy value! Great review, as always.
I have a Fender Player II HH no coil splits and obviously more pricy. Still happy and 7.5lbs alder body is a benefit. The Artist has amazing features for a budget guitar with the coil split, locking tuners and pretty good sounding pick ups.
Got mine 5 yrs ago just after Shane's review first came out. Replaced the pickups with CGWs Dream 180s gretsch replacements... beaut sound... also rewired with cloth cable and fitted full sized pots.. love the result.
What a Tele! You know it's good when it's still being produced. I remember when they came out. Def a bucket list guitar. Glad you revisited this one Shane ✌️
Thanks for the updated review. I actually bought the AT92, which is the updated version of this, but has the belly cut and arm contour which pull out a bit of weight. Due to having too many toys to play with, this has been ignored, and never been given a chance. Your video has inspired me to get this out again. Thanks :)
The Bull Buckers are awesome pickups. I have the AP97 Chambered. Love to see Dr Rick or Ben do a review on one of these as they don't come in a lefty. Great review Shane.
Hey Shane, I bought the lighter 'semi-hollow' version of this Artist guitar after watching your demo a few years back - one of my favourite guitars, which I use alot with slide. I also bought the Artist 5w valve amp on your say so, with no regrets and a big plus on the pocket with both! Thanks mate! PS The playing's pretty snappy too 👍
I bought this guitar 2 years ago in the UK for £149!! It was set up well out of the box and sounded really good. Only down side is it weighs a ton!! I swapped out the pickups as the neck was quite muddy. Fantastic quality for the price and a great gig guitar
Thanks, Shane. I've been trading off guitars of late and every time I think I'll include my TC59 I play it, look at it, and put it back in its gig bag. It's just too good! And, anyway, I'd get a pittance for it in a trade. Hell, mine even has some flame on the neck. Yep, it's heavy bugger (4.8kg/10.6lb) and I really did feel that weight last time I played it, but the damned thing plays so easily and sounds good. It might be worthwhile for you to try the Artist AT92 Tele, still an ash body, still with twin Bullbuckers, but with belly and forearm carves and , perhaps, a bit lighter, (or their AT93V2 - same but with a single coil in the bridge position).
Perhaps a luthier or woodworker could plane 1 cm of timber off the back and give it a belly cut. That way the weight problem will be alleviated. Sounds great, but I prefer their LP styles. Sadly they have had nil stock of lefties, of any of their LP types, in the UK for some time
Yeah they're heavy. But I bought one of the artist tl69? Seafoam green teles to get something lighter, being made from paulownia wood, and it's too bloody light! Has neck dive. I actually think that I would rather live with the weight than fight the neck dive. I think they're both great value, great guitars, maybe I'm just too picky.😊
Thing with split coil humbuckers is that while the second coil isn't sending any signal, you still have a dual magnetic field. So you're not getting a true single coil response. Sadly I had to sell my TC59 due to the weight, also I don't feel locking tuners offer any benefits whatsoever over traditional split or through post methods. (Note that locking tuners can contribute to neck-dive on lighter bodied instruments). Tuning liability is a myth, oh and I found that the locking screws would often come lose from the vibrations of playing. Otherwise, a solid guitar - as are all Artist guitars I've purchased. My only gripe is they don't offer enough variety of colour choices.
I got the tele very muddy pickups they were sold as twangelar pickups but not? I put Tonerider Alnico II Blues for Tele TRT3 never looked back. but do shop around for your sound?
Artist also do the AT92 Tele, still an ash body with twin Bullbuckers, but with belly and forearm carves and perhaps a bit lighter. I haven't tried one, but have a TC59.

Built one of there kit strats and I was genuinely surprised how mice it was for $140 hardly had to do any setup after I got it all together

Beautiful humbucker and single-coil tones, the body is a great looking piece of wood. 🎸🎶

They were about $169 USD when they came out and now $249. Worth it. Still a great value for what it is.

Ohhh sick.. the ashtray+chrome humbucker has to have its own sound!!!
Love the look and the sounds, but as an old man the weight is a big issue.
That is a badass Tele!!!! Love the tones!!! 🎸🔥🎸🔥🎸
Classic look and great tones!!! 🎸🎸🎸🎸👍🏾👍🏾😎
Great review Shane. Amazing value. Same weight as my ‘77 Tele but probably sounds better.

Yoooo love the review! Would love to hear what you think about the GM1 from them if you ever get the chance!
She's so pretty, yet down to Earth and obtainable!
So good 👍 on my shopping list.
$250 USD, how can they make such a nice Tele for that kind of money... That's awesome!

Nice review. I love the looks and sounds, but the weight is a deal killer for me. I just won't deal with it anymore.

I want one😍
Thank you Artist for making lefties. Nest, how about Japan shipping?
Christ, 11 lbs for that guy!? That’s a heavy tele 🎉
love it
Also, do their 6:57 more recent pickups sound better than when they first came out...those pickups didnt have artist on them.
They're already out of stock in the USA!
Can you please do the new fender champion ll 100
the split coil does have a tele sound
Do you still use a Super Sonic?
👍🏻👍🏻
Is it just me, or is there something with string through?
Cue the Artist team bots in the comments?
when i was a kid the only guitars at this price range were absolute garbage. we live in such a golden age of budget friendly instruments.
Looks and weight make me think they are made in the same factory as the Harley Benton TE 52...
If you wanted to change the pickups, what would you choose?
I got the tele very muddy pickups they were sold as twangelar pickups but not?
I put Tonerider Alnico II Blues for Tele TRT3 never looked back. but do shop around for your sound?
Iron Gear is one of the brands I have been looking at.
Pretty, sounds good, too. But 10 lbs. and no comfort cut, the search continues.
Artist also do the AT92 Tele, still an ash body with twin Bullbuckers, but with belly and forearm carves and perhaps a bit lighter. I haven't tried one, but have a TC59.
Sure looks like a Harley Benton, neck looks like HB caramelized….and it’s as heavy as a HB
Too heavy .
