I would love to hear ideas for uses. But do keep in mind that if you snag the loops, they pull outward. I could see doing a rug but only if I paint the back with latex, which works great, but it's a smelly job and might be difficult to locate and purchase.
I love your videos! I have the pile ribber for my Superba, and it looks like a completely different technique. You don't happen to have that unit for your Superba do you? I would love a tutorial on it and can't find anything online to help me!
It takes a sport or a DK at the thinnest, and an Aran or a slightly-bulky (thinner group 5) at the thickest. I use thinner yarn for something like this, full needle rib. I prefer to start knitters on bulky machines because it is so easy to see everything and the knitting looks more like hand-knitting.
Diana I always enjoy your sharing of your knowledge. I have several machine's from Brother KH 588 585 to a Passap an Older machine Speed O Matic. May I ask what this machine your demo on is? I am considering a newer machine that parts if needed would be easier to locate. My machines are very old and almost impossible to locate replacement parts being they were not complete machines when I purchased them or had defective parts. Thanks in advance
I am demonstrating on a Brother 270, which is the bulky electronic. It is an absolutely tip-top model and I will keep it forever. That being said, yes, you really ought to upgrade. There are fantastic newer Brothers available, and I recommend anything in the 900 series of electronic, standard gauge machines. Check with a dealer like Cindy Schmatz of Cindy's Knitting Room and see what she has for sale. Do yourself a solid and don't bother with another iffy machine.
@@dianaknits I really don't see them as a iffy machine because I have come to the rescue of old machines since the late 80's. I would repair them complete any maintenance needed and complete restorations. These last few I have are my favorites but as I said getting almost impossible to find replacement parts and Im just not young anymore. At my age I deserve some enjoyment other than rescuing and maintenance. That's a good reason why I asked name of machine you were using because your knowledge gave me interest to upgrading and a purchase in near future when I see what is available for me to make things. I thank you for reply your one of my favorite knowledgeable people.
@@danawouster1301 I really do appreciate machine fixers and rescuers like you. I do, however, at least twice a month, meet people who are struggling with MK because they bought an older machine that isn't working quite right, and now they have the double whammy of learning a new, complex craft with trying to figure out how to fix the old machine.
@@dianaknits Yes yes yes I come across those people when I read comments even Myself as a use to fixer/Restoration I found many times spending hours watching Your videos the Answerlady and a few others for answers I needed. Like I said I am done and so really to enjoy on a upgraded machine. Time to start & make things. Thanks for your previous suggestion I sure appreciate all advice & knowledge as I take a New direction into knitting machines. Thanks
Thank you so much for this lesson. I have a Brother bulky too, but don't use it very often because my center back between the shoulders and neck start hurting after a half an hour. I notice you have your machine set up to where the needles are almost at eye level. I think this would help me. How many inches high is the knitting stand? I would like to make something to elevate my machine like yours.
My machine is actually at about desk height and is on an ordinary tilt stand. However, I use an office chair and I move the height of the chair up and down to help change my position as I work.
Diana you’re an endless source of knowledge!!!! This is amazing!!!! Thanks so much!
i was thinking that this technique would be good to make a bath or shower room mat with a spray on non-slip backing applied.
This reminds me of the fashion for hand knitted loopy jackets for children in the 80’s.

Thanks Diana, your instructions are so clear.
That is awesome! I had no idea you could do pile on a knitting machine!
More techniques to learn! Thank you!
Great video, as always Diana, thank you very much ❤️

Как всегда необходимо и прекрасно!
I've always wondered how to do something like that- now i know! And i can't wait to try it out!! Thank you :)))
Thats great but is there a way to do it without a ribber,
Incredible 😍
Спасибо ❤️ интересную идею 😉
Beautiful
Nice
Большое спасибо за урок.

I had a Superba once, but I don't have one now. I'm unfamiliar with that pile knitting method! I hope someone else, in the know, answers the question.
so you can use a fine yarn to do regular knitting on a bulky machine? I had a singer about 30 yrs ago but the fine guage put me off
