12:48 Mom yells out "Are you drunk?"
17:30 Woman falls over during the one leg stand test
26:51 Family comes to the police station to pick the woman up and take her home
On December 29, 2022, Union Township (Ohio) police officers were called for a motor vehicle accident, where a Honda Accord had come to rest vertically against a power pole. Initially, the first officer on scene did not think that the 20 year-old driver was intoxicated. However, when her mother showed up and gave her a hug and yelled, "Are you drunk?", the officers decided to administer field sobriety tests. The driver was eventually arrested and transported to the police station, where she provided a urine specimen. She was released shortly thereafter to her family. The outcome of the criminal charges is discussed at the end of the video.

I hope the mom sees the comments and know how well she reacted as a parent. She doesn’t interfere, she doesn’t excuse, and she’s not angry at the officers. Her daughter was polite and respectful as well as loved! Her boyfriends phone call was the first step in a chain reaction to finding her. Thank goodness her mom didn’t pull up to a fatal accident and kuddos to the mom for ask if somebody else got hit… crazy how many people don’t care.

She's a good mother. A bad mom would attempt to shield the kid from consequences. A good parent teaches their kids respect for people, society, it's laws and life. Actions that endanger others absolutely have consequences. Sheltering from this sets kids up for failure when they get into the real world. Where real people suffer from their actions, and consequences are unavoidable.

Her mum was one of the few parents I've seen on these videos who was not going to excuse her child's actions. A very responsible woman, and one of the few I've seen who as soon as she knew her daughter was safe, was equally concerned for any other victims of the accident. Far better to have your child driven to the police station in cuffs - than driven to a funeral home in a hearse.

I know first hand that it's hard as a mother to sit back and watch the wheels of justice turn without interference. But, the sooner you realize as a parent, there is only so much you can protect them from, the better it is for both sides. Never allow your child to make you feel guilty for making them be responsible and accountable for their actions while still standing by their side and supporting them emotionally and mentally.

If this girl can get her shit together, get sober permanently, get past her legal obligations', and return to be a productive adult ... that alone will be pay back enough for most mothers or fathers. It might take SEVERAL rounds of bottoming, arrest, consequences cycles to play out before this girl actually hits rock bottom and gets clean for good. .. that is typical, years of this BS and $30-100K of her parents money. I really have to add a comment when I read the other comments about how respectful and polite this young drunk is. I have lost two dear friends plus another I did not know well, to two separate young drunk drivers. One friend, Neita, was driving home from work on the highway when she was hit head on by a wrong way 20 year old driver. That driver never showed remorse and was totally unhurt. There were 600 people at Neita’s funeral. The other friend was out with a date . A drunk 18 year old boy blew a red light as they were going through the green light. Both of them were killed instantly. Not only were these friends killed, their families still have not recovered from the loss. I obviously haven’t either.

I totally disagree. I watch a lot if Dui dash cam footage. After realising her daughter was unharmed, the mother did not interfere and was very truthful. The girl was respectful and not ONCE did she mention her step dad was a deputy. Yes, she wasn't honest about the alcohol but she followed every request without question. An entitled brat would have acted the complete opposite. Also, the family was physically and emotionally supportive without making any excuses for her. I think this girl WILL learn her lesson and l would be really surprised if she is ever in trouble again. This is actually really good parenting. There is no point in THEM punishing her as the police are already doing that. Shouting and screaming at her won't help either. As a Scot, it appears to me, that a lot of Americans think physical punishment or ostracising the person is the way to go but considering your crime rate, that really isn't working for you. As family they were just glad she was alive. They weren't selfish. Parents usually putting blame or guilt on the young person for making THEM feel a certain way. She was hugged and supported because in the end of the day she had a near death experience. I don't think it will be a bragging right but more something she will be ashamed of, rightfully so. She's not a brat just an extremely lucky young woman who made a big mistake, like we all do, when we're young. Time after time we see young people being rejected by their families for something like this. So they run to their bad influence friends and end up drinking more, doing drugs etc and the parents know nothing about what they are doing. This mum knew where her kid was and who she was with. Good parenting. For once. I think it will be this girls wake up call. She realises how lucky she has been. Nice to see a good outcome with no abuse towards the police.

I don't care that she was polite; she consistently lied about drinking; she could barely stand up, or put an intelligible sentence together, and she was WAY OVER the limit, for adults, let alone for an underage kid. This girl should have had a far heavier punishment: jail time, for starters. Much heavier fines, and her license suspended for AT LEAST a year, maybe longer. I'm absolutely appalled!!! And appalled at some of the comments here from people who seemed to think a slap on the wrist was sufficient punishment, for wrapping your car, (almost literally) around a utility pole, while severely intoxicated. @@OfficialMyxomatosis Yes I did listen to it all. Did you? Maybe turn your volume up because it's clear as day when the mom says "not tonight". As for her mom shutting up, you condone drinking and driving? That's gross. What makes her rich? How do you come to that conclusion?
I want to make myself clear, turn up your volume. The daughter asks about her belongings. The mom asks what she said because she didn't understand her own daughter. (That's how drunk she was) The officer says "belongings" and as he says that, the mom says "not tonight". The daughter makes a funny noise and gestures to the mom. Watch again and actually listen. I'm not dumb, stupid, or an ignorant person. Don't talk to me like I am an idiot. It seems to me like YOU are the one who didn't listen to the whole thing. There have been multiple times the officer tells the parents to leave the scene and that is normally because the parents are horrible and try to defend their kids or obstruct justice. This mother was so scared her daughter had died, that the cop wanted to assure her, her daughter was fine. The mother was worried about everyone except her daughter, who she knew did wrong. Then she manipulated and was continuing to be rude and mean to her mother. It doesn't matter though, none of this physically hurts you. So why are you so hard pressed on trying to prove me incorrect when I know I'm 100% right about what I heard. You once again, for the third time might wanna actually LISTEN to what is said in the conversation at the police station. This was her second outburst by the time the video ended. Good day!

As a nurse I’ve seen a fair share myself. I also had an aunt (she fell down the steps and died) who spent several years in Jessup for killing a pedestrian while she was drinking and driving. I think one of the biggest things young people need to do is get their DD lined up long before they go out for the evening. I don’t think it would hurt to even have a back up DD in case the original one F’s up and drinks or bails. Once these people start drinking they are no longer thinking straight. They certainly aren’t thinking about consequences. They feel like they can do anything, including making that “short” trip home or wherever they have to get to asap.
