  • Did you know that despite Texas and New Mexico sharing a border, New Mexico has just 2.1 Million people, while Texas has a massive population of 29.5 million people? You might be quick to assume that it's because Texas is so much larger than New Mexico, but that's not actually the case..not even close, actually. In fact, Texas’s population is over 14 times the size of New Mexicos, yet when we compare the landmass of the 2 states Texas is only 2.2 times the size of New Mexico with 268,597 square miles compared to 121,697 square miles. To add more perspective, if New Mexico were to keep its same population density but have the same population as Texas it would have more landmass than the entire contiguous United States.
So why is this population difference so drastic, despite the states bordering each other?? Well, today on Across the Globe we’re going to be looking at Why So Few Americans Live In New Mexico As Compared To Texas.

Of course I have been to both and I much prefer New Mexico. Food is wonderful, weather less humid, less populated and cheaper cost of living. The fall there is perfection. Texas while good is a bit boring looking, with its mostly flat sweeping grasslands that looks similar to Iowa and Kansas 🥱The people of Texas make it great.

As a Canadian living in -42c/-43f currently I would GLADLY live in New Mexico! I would burn all my winter jackets (actually put on fences for homeless) and say good bye to the snow forever.

Actually, as of last year or two (2022/3), Texas has surpassed the 30 million mark and is estimated to be about 31 million.

Have you ever been to either of these places? I've spent some time in both New Mexico and Texas, so I can vouch for this video.

Well, I haven't been to New Mexico or Texas, but I did visit my local Tex-Mex restaurant once, does that count? 😄

New Mexico, where even the silence is serene. It's like the state itself is practicing Stoic principles, maintaining a peaceful demeanor amidst the bustling world

I have resided in Dallas for 5 yrs. There’s an influx of residents moving here from CA & FL. This is drastically driving up rent cost! My wife and I are moving away from the city for affordability. Constant road and building construction is rampant everywhere!

LOL, I used to be a truck driver. Texas road construction is a huge joke among drivers. It never ends. Not that they start new, the same job never ends. Don't know how that's even a thing.

Is it possible to do future videos in both Fahrenheit and Celsius, or the metric system in general when talking about temperature and miles. I say that because you have viewers outside of the US, and they react to your videos but, often have to pause to figure out Fahrenheit to Celsius, or Miles to Kilometer. Thanks, and keep the good work.

Texas has great job opportunities but the cost of living is going to make it not worth it anymore. I love the NM culture, food and scenery over Texas. I may have to leave Dallas for ABQ

At first glance of the map, how much of Texas’s population is in the desert-looking part that looks like most of New Mexico?

Not a lot. Texan here. The eastern part of the state where the Texas Triangle is located is fairly green. (where over two-thirds of Texas live; just in those major metro areas) Once you venture west of San Antonio, Austin, and DFW it turns pretty brown.

Why the background music? What is the purpose? We're listening to you? We need to hear what you're saying now. It's disturbing me. Therefore, I'm gonna put my hand down and not patch you.

    Reasons:
    1. NM is surrounded by Indian Reservations and population cannot expand horizontally.
    2. High Rise buildings are prevented by residents because it distracts their view.
    3. No real international airport - a funny airport that has only one international flight to Mexico.
    4. Poor Educational system - students in public schools do not know how to read and write at an age that they should.
    5. Low Wages, and therefore doctors are scarce and young people move out.
    6. Democrat policies -The governor still follows the failed poicies of CA, especially homeless problem and recreational drugs.
    7. Democrat policies- Texas, a republican state, is more welcoming to business ventures in general and in the future.
    8. Texas is more blessed - Texas does not allow abortion in most if not all cases.
    9. NM is poor, so illegal immigrants don't really like to move to NM as the benefits are lower, street lights especially in SW quadrant is lacking and poor people get hit by cars.
In any case, less population can be a good option, population not diverse as to destroy the cultural values, less illegal immigrants like to move in NM and lower cost of living.

Maybe stop gulping down the lies Fox feeds you like a mama bird feeding her baby.
Of the top ten States with the absolute highest poverty rates EIGHT are led by Republican governors.
Of the top TWENTY least educated States all but TWO are led by Republican governors.
These are not talking points, they are based on statistics. Maybe open up that brain a little and let some actual data in, instead of parroting partisan b.s. Might do you some good. Otherwise you truly ARE a rey infante.

      1. Political Parties are apart of population moving worldwide but since there is a very similar population of democrats and republicans, with the democrats holding the majority, that should not affect the population growth.
      2. Also, the Poor educational system and low wages are a product of republican policies, not democrat ones. Less regulation for businesses, a very common republican policy generally creates lower wages. A lower minimum wage and low education standing almost directly correlates to party standing. Some of this is definitely urban/rural divide, but the party policies are still the main factor.
      3. High rise buildings have nothing to do with population movement. Practically none.
      4. New Mexico is poorer again, because of poverty on native reservations, and less business regulations create lower wages.
      5. Saying Texas is more "Blessed" has no legal grounding. No matter who or what endorsed it. Separation of church and state.
6.There is no "Population Expanding" like during the colonization of native American territory. Expanding will practically never happen at that scale, and we will run out of so many things before we need to move into Native American territory.
