Don't worry they wont disappear. A while back i remember Kangaroo island had so many they had to relocate some of them to the mainland. That being said half of Kangaroo island has just burnt but there are plenty of Koalas left.

Also the whole idea of regarding them as pets, they’re wild animals, leave them alone unless it’s absolutely necessary to interfere. Not singling anyone out, it’s just a worldwide mindset that’s doing more harm than good

For this reason, we could _easily_ make the name "koala bear" the official name, and then everyone would suddenly be totally fine with it, just like they are totally fine with the names "killer whale" and "electric eel".
