Thank you! I just wanted to let you know that you are one of my trusted UA-cam channels for gardening, and now I'm watching your videos as I prepare for planting a family garden with my grandmother, mother, and two younger brothers! Thank you very much! :)
Well I try telling people but no one cares. Most flowers people grow have no nectar. They look showy but have been bred to be scentless and difficult for pollinators to drink. I grow marigold every year for the bees. The bees get drunk off the pollen and nectar. I have been trying to plant more varieties. I grow wild pansies, chamomile, and tons of herbs then let them flower. I grow lots of veggies. Bees favorite seems to be squash blossoms.
Well, here you go! This is another flower you can add to your garden for the bees and butterflies. Your garden will be buzzing with hummingbirds, butterflies and bees. I grow single and semi double for the pollinators. The doubles will not attract many pollinators (too hard to get the good stuff!).
My fav flower for now. Its easy to care and easy to grow. I Just took the seeds and throw some on soil and it grows. It looks beautiful on my front yard.
I love Zinnias! I have some ready to be transplant in a container as soon the temperature stabilize. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with the world! 😍
I started zinnas April 30th the last frost date was may 30th.they did wonderful anyhow.did not fertazize until 6inches and olny did one time.did not use bone meal.mine germanarmred at 40 to 60 degrees! They are wonderful!
I just love your channel and all your videos. They're so calming and happy. You inspire me to do so much more with my garden and home. All I can think when I watch is how lucky your family is to have such a wonderful lady as a matriarch
You probably dont care but does any of you know of a way to log back into an Instagram account?? I stupidly forgot the login password. I appreciate any tricks you can offer me!
@Davian Legend Thanks so much for your reply. I found the site thru google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. I see it takes a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
Thank you so much for reminding us of this beautiful but often overlooked flower. I'm growing these again this year.... first time I've grown them in a while.
Special thanks for your knowledge I love to see your video you explained it very nice and clear help me learn how to grown my fIrst ZONNIA FLOWERS THIS spring. 🌷🌻🌼🌺🌄🌞
Me inscrevi hoje no seu canal, como você, eu amo de paixão as Zínias, elas são lindas, muito sucesso e felicidafes pra você e os seus seguidores, sou de Recife-Pernambuco- Brasil. 🌴🇧🇷🌴
I grew California giants this year, nearly winter here and they are still blooming and providing the bees and butterflies with nectar. Planning to save seeds.
California Giants are very pretty and I like that the seed is available most places, even the dollar stores! I am pretty sure they are the singles which attract all the butterflies and bees.
Thank you for this video. You have a beautiful garden. I ❤️ zinnias. They direct sow easily and germinate within a couple days especially here in Florida.
Thanks for all the info! Lovely. I have the use of a raised bed provided around our apartment complex and may plant a couple of zinnia plants for cut flowers. (Last year we had gorgeous Mexican sunflowers and cosmos.) Someone last year nearby raised beautiful zinnias we admired, and she may not be coming back this year, since she didn't come to clean up and "put to bed" her little raised plot. I bet there are some seeds on the soil still amid the dead stalks. Would it still work to try to collect and use the seeds this year, or does it need to be done right at the end of the season and drying them then? Thanks again; your video is encouraging and inspiring!
I plant these every year but i have never started from seed. I will next year. I have a problem with some of mine this year. I believe i have a type of leaf spot. Do i need to pull out the plant and toss it? Thanks for your channel. I really enjoy it.
I love growing Cosmos and I save the seeds all the time, looks like I need to pick up some Zinnia's to add to my garden, thanks for sharing another great video :)
The same as with Zinnia, you wait until the flower wilts off and the seed on there will look brownish to black, that's when they are ready to be picked off, not green, hope this helps :)
I had some cosmos pop up in my garden last year, it was so beautiful. I think it was a stray seed from a pack of zinnias. Now I need to grow more cosmos. :)
Rainbow Gardens I planted some and I am anticipating their beauty! ... I am also going to purchase some zinnia seeds! I love them and have the perfect spot for them!!!!! :-)
I'm discouraged from planting zinnias because of powdery mildew in the northeast. I'm planting them this spring, but I'm going to try every remedy I can find to fight the powdery mildew. I water them at the base to avoid fungus. It spreads to other susceptible plants.
I loved it I'm growing for first time this year. I know you grow a lot of nasturtiams , I've started loads from seed and planted some out. I was wondering if you could tell me how many plants to a small pot and also a hanging basket. I want to over winter them as I'm zone 7, I plan on doing in a greenhouse, any tips ? Thanks so much for you videos and wealth of knowledge.
I have planted about 3 in a small 8 inch pot and they bloomed but the plants did not get very big. If you just plant one in your hanging baskets, they should do fine. They will get bushy and produce a lot of blooms.
My plants are only about a foot tall and all have one flowers on top, can I make them bush out by cutting and when they are this small haw close to the ground to I cut? Thanks for any help. By the way last year they were very tall leggy but with great flowers I did not cut them at all last year
Oh my we must be related lol. I do the same with my zinnias. I let the flowers dry and will gather a few gallon ziplock bags full. The rest I just sprinkle all over where I want them and they come up the next year. Adding Candy Cane Zinnias this year. Excited to see them. You have some beautiful ones. I think one looked like a peach/cream or maybe a pink/cream?
Why do zinnia stems turn brown during full bloom season?...my garden is 4x25ft. HOW MUCH PEAT MOSS TO MANURE?....CAN I USE POTTERY MIX INSTEAD?...THANKS...SALAND FINALLY WHEN DO I WATER? AND I GET AT LEAST 10 HOURS OF SUN
I just stumbled across your channel looking for zinnia info. Very nice video. This reminds me of shows like The Victory Garden in the 80's. I think you could easily be another Martha Stewart/Paula Dean/P. Alan Smith if someone gave you a shot at it.
so how do you keep the butterflies off the parsley you want to eat? I grew zinnias one year and now they always sprout on their own every spring. I like to say I have a butterfly garden. the problem is they also like to eat the herbs I enjoy: parsley and dill. :/
Oddly enough, I do not take any measures to keep them off of my dill and parsley. I just grow lots of each herb and there is always plenty for me. If I catch them in time (b4 they devour a plant), I like to remove them by hand and bring them indoors where I can let them grow. I provide them with plenty of parsley to eat.
It depends on how good your soil is.. If it is moist and your seeds are new, put about 3 per hole, but once they germonate, cut out (thin) to only one per hole.
@@RainbowGardens Since I don't have a garden or lawn, I am just directly planting these seeds in a long pot. I mixed potting mix with a seed started potting soil, vermiculite, peat moss, perlite, and bone meal. So, do you still recommend 3 seeds per hole? I did put 3 in each hole yesterday. I hope this is ok...
@@annaramos7950 Your soil sounds great! You should have no problem germinating them. When they come up, just cut out the extra, leaving only one. Keep the one that looks the most healthy.
can also mix regular household peroxide with water and spray the plant once a month. to an 8 oz spray bottle mix 2 caps with water. lightly spray the soil over the freshly planted seeds.
dr Suraj Agrawal ji namaste, butterfly Ko atrac karne ke liye konse plants jyadatr lagaye low sheded kyoki hamre yaha jyada dhup nahi ati hai plz, thanks .
Get a moist paper towel and sandwich between two plates. Once sprouted this way you can put them in their individual plant cells. Don't water too much and keep in partial shade. I always get almost 100% germination using plates. I once thought some zinnia seeds were too old so I threw them all out into the flower bed. I had hundreds of seedlings come up. I didn't cover in dirt or anything lol. I divided them since there were so many.
I didn’t know anything about zinnias but I bought some seeds.I don’t have a garden only a balcony and I’m afraid of birds and insects:(Will it be a problem?
ILjobber1 I just planted some a few weeks ago and only a few came up. I think it was because I used a too hard of a water spray on them and it pushed them too far into the ground instead of misting them like she said to do. But it could be my soil like she said. This is my second year of trying to grow Zinnias from seed and only a few come up so I’m gonna try again and see if this helps
Very true! I also love to grow for fragrance. I have grown a variety of nasturtiums which smelled just like roses. I think they were called Fragrant giants. I also grow Winter Daphne, which blooms for a short time in February but OH SO WONDERFUL! It is a shrub.
I love that you see the big picture, and welcome and provide for caterpillars in your garden.
Thank you

So happy you enjoyed it and hope you can grow them soon.
If I bring my potted zinnia plants inside before the first frost can I keep them alive all winter and return them outside in spring?
Pinching is one way of making your zinnias bushy..good work

We got frost in June last year. I'm not sure if If I get some to sprout this year I hope they don't freeze right when they start to bloom.
Do you make your own compost fertilizer?
My zinnias are flimsy. I had to tie them to a stick so they stand. Any advice? I grow them from seeds.
You can use a tomato cage also
