Fantastic. I only do the belt every 4 or 5 years and it's a great refresher and reference. One thing I noticed was that after putting everything back, the mark on the crank pulley was slightly past (clockwise) the mark on the cover. Referencing your video I can see that it's exactly the same as mine once you've rotated two turns, so this is just a normal case (stopped me worrying).
excellent job , you make it look effortless , i did mine blind ( without seeing your video i mean ) and it was a nightmare , mind you my engine was still in the car , did the water pump and tensioner and uprated gasket set including inlet manifold green jobby , shes purring like a kitten since , just have to put a clutch in her now !!
the best way I found to lock the engine on a very very tight honda engine crankshaft pulley bolt, was to take an old starter motor, just the gear/dog end.. weld it solid, then install it.. 100% locked...
you all prolly dont care at all but does someone know of a trick to log back into an instagram account?? I was stupid forgot my password. I would appreciate any help you can offer me
@Grady Gavin i really appreciate your reply. I found the site through google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff now. Takes quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
The springs on the valves tend to push against and partially rotate one or the other cam...so you would not be able to line it up to put the belt on....unless you had another pair of hands to hold them in the right position whilst you slipped the belt on...which would be a bit hard without him getting in the way. Tools can be had NEW for £6 with free postage on ebay
thanks for posting, im fitting a new mls gaskit kit with new cam kit to a 2000 rover 25 1.4 i needed to check over the timeing marks on bottom crank thanks vry much :)
thanks alot. At the moment i was trying to remove pully of the crank to change water pump and at the same time i change the timing belt. but i can't. this clip very usefull, thanks for your help and genuin info
The top timing markers on camshafts with white spots. On those camshafts arms it's written "exhaust" and in riverside is "In". So witch sides of camshafts arms should be close to each over? "exhaust" and "In" or "exhaust" and "exhaust" Thanks in advance.
Is it completely necessary for a cam locking tool? as long as I'm careful and don't rotate them to an extreme? could I mark the cams to the cover using a different colour to ensure they aren't 1 degree out? ect. Also the crank pulley how would I go about locking this if the engines still in the car? Sorry I haven't done a terrible amount of research.
Does anybody have some advice on what to do if the top two bolts of the plastic cover are spinning in place? My guess is the mechanic shop that did the belt the last time over tightened the bolts which caused the captive nuts to break free inside the plastic... Any suggestions would be much appreciated!
You can add sealant such as hylomar together with the oil seal o-rings ..it will help to keep corrosion off the faces...and help protect from road salt attack from the outside ...that's a tip for long term ownership ..if you only plan to keep the car for less than two years ...don't bother .
Great and helpful video. What is the difference between the manual and auto tensioner? do they come off in the same way? Also why does the engine need to be timed first with the crank pulley marks? Thanks
@@metalworker007 it doesn't, I just undid it with old trick. Rest a socket wrench on something solid, chassis leg in this case, and flick the starter, several times in this case. Thanks anyway.
hello, last person how change all gaskets on my lotus s2 with rover engine do some wrong because now i have noice on the cam followers, what i should do? thanks for your help
Does this answer your question .. Sorry cant put links in the answer..but go to Google images ..use search words "rover k-series timing marks" the first picture to come up ..is the one you want . YOU CAN ALSO PUT YOUR OWN MARKS ON IT BEFORE YOU TAKE IT APART ..IF IT HELPS YOU PUT IT BACK TOGETHER IN THE RIGHT ORDER .
Hello again, finally i took the engine a part, i have the parts but now i need to download a rebuilding manual with the torques and also how to assamble the valve head and the timing, any sugestions where to find video or digital manual??? thanks a lot.
The official rover manual is called "RAVE", its still copyrighted ...and me pointing it out on a public forum would put me in the wrong but you now have the main search term, you just add the model :)
Can all timing belts, water pump etc be changed on a KV6 engine in a Rover 75 while engine is still in the vehicle. Only videos i can find are engine out of vehicle which is obviously much easier.
just done my grandsons rover 25 new cam water pump@ belt now it won t start some help would be nice any my grand son is stundt thanks any help i would be very gratful sorry about spelling
The line on the crankshaft pulley he has it lined up in the video is the "safe" position for changing the belt..In the safe position all pistons are half way up the bore..means you cant accidentally hit the valves against the pistons in this position whilst changing the belt.....The other mark has nothing to do with this job...it is is used a for checking the "ignition" timing, with a strobe light, with the engine running.
The gasket is called an MLS gasket..multi-layered-steel..for advice on what to buy and where to buy .stating your location ..post on "rover.org" in any forum there, that deals with the k-series engine rover 200 or 400 or join one of the lotus forums. I cant possibly give you all the advice you need here..as it comes out upside down and the wrong way around in these threads .,.I cant post detailed info here, it will be too hard to follow. You need good step by step guides .they are on the forums
I honestly cant say what could be wrong ..other than they been very careless doing the rebuild... dirty conditions.... blocking the oil ways ..heads should have the sub-assemblies put together with anaerobic sealant only .also they could have.got the followers mixed up ..maybe they put them back in the wrong places ..as they should go back into the exact positions they came out of...These engines need new improved upgraded gaskets when put back together or they will fail again .

You said rotate the tensioner clockwise but rotated it anti clockwise, which direction is it?
The Rover workshop manual says anti-clockwise 👍
Just did this job, engine running perfectly but whiring / whining noise coming from new belt 😢😢
Thanks a lot, very useful video. Tomorrow I going to try changing the cam belt, for a new one.
thanks for uploading this video, I've learnt lot. Just replaced head gasket for my cousin's car.

any recomendation, what to buy and where to.

and one more thing, do you need any sealant when changing water pump or is it enough O ring rubber?
Please tell me which type of sealant was used?

Try a plastic tool between the inner cover and head to keep the tension on the bolt whilst trying to undo it.
if I take out 1,8T Rover 75 and replace with 1,8 non turbo engine from Free Lander do I have to reprogram the computer to match the other engine

Hello
What should be the protrusion of the cylinders from the plane of the block?

When is comes to cambelt failure, Is the 1.4 a "safe" engine? Or would valve/piston contact occur?
Did you get the answer? I’m in need of it?
@@l33lvr it an interference engine, the valves will hit the pistons.
would it be OK to go start the car after iv got all cams lined up and the pulley lined to safe. would the car start and to safe to drive ?

if you have the money ..you may as well ..under £30

The white spots are not on an original untouched engine ..these are added by the person who takes it apart.
Is this a non interference engine?
it will destroy itself if the belt snaps
