WALKING TORONI ups and down, CHALKIDIKI, GREECE (subtitled)

Toroni is a coastal village of western Sithonia, which is the second peninsula of Chalkidiki, Greece. It is geographically placed towards the first peninsula of Chalkidiki, Kassandra and distanced from Tessaloniki about 140 km. It is inhabited in a small bay, protected from waves and wind. It stretches along the beach, with its hotels and apartments, located in beautiful and landscaped courtyards, full of greenery and children’s furniture. The main occupation of the residents is tourism, agriculture and fishing.
Many restaurants are located either on the beach or across the beach, and offer Greek specialties. There are also several well-equipped shops. We were very pleased with the offer of the supermarket which were near our apartment. The place is not a shopping destination, but it is more oriented to those who want peace and relaxation. Nightlife is reduced to walks by the beach, dinner in restaurants and taverns or going for a drink in one of the cafes.
Anyway, Toroni lies on a very popular, two-kilometar-long sandy beach, awarded the Blue Flag. Toroni beach is very popular with families traveling with small children, primarily because of the greenery that sorrounds it, the proximity of taverns and shops, the golden sand and the gradual entry into the sea. There are no big waves or strong winds, and orientation towards west enables magnificent sunsets.

A traffic-free rural road and promenade pass through the place, where all the tourist facilities needed for an undisturbed family vacation are located. The nearest doctor’s office is in Neos Marmaras, about a 20-minute drive away. The bus line that connects Toroni with other places in Sithonia and Polygyros as the center of this region, has several stops in Toroni itself, and one of them is in front of the restaurant “Aphrodite”, which is next to the supermarket I have mentioned before.
At the very exit from Toroni there are the remains of a Byzantine fortress Likiti.
An Orthodox church is located in the center of Toroni and it is dedicated to St. Athanasius
