  • Join me on a hike down a beautiful tumbling stream through the Piney Woods of East Texas to the abandoned Aldridge Sawmill. This impressive structure lies deep within the Angelina National Forest. along one of the best trails I've been on in this part of the state. Boykin Springs Recreation Area and its surroundings are gorgeous and may be the closest thing to Appalachia in Texas. It has a campground with 17 sites (tent camping) and a lovely little lake.

    Thanks for posting for those of us that can't visit the places we loved! So sad to get old. But at least we are alive and have memories and people like you who post videos so we revisit! Blessings 😊

    I love that place! I didn't know about the section with the rocks on the ground, though. Really cool! 👍🏼

    This was very interesting, thanks a lot. We live in the area, Beaumont, but we couldn't walk that trail any more. Thanks for posting this.

    That was frikkin awesome. Thanks so much. My GGrandfather worked the lumber camps. I wonder if he worked where you hiked. Sadly I dont have much history on him, but I do have a marvelous photo of my Granma in about 1920 hugging his neck as he squats down. Clearcut behind them and a shack type cabin. They were poor but very happy. I have relatives buried in those E. TX forests. This was great. Thanks so much.

    We saw your video yesterday, we went today. The trail had some "water hazards", but we made it around them. Thanks for the great day trip idea.

    So when I was about 13ish my friend's mom took him, his younger brother and I to stay at boykin. Us three boys hiked here by accident and went in the third building. There was not as much spray paint the. As now and everything was demonic in the building along with an animal that had been sacrificed. There was a pentagram dug in the dirt on the floor. We started tearing up the pentagram and that's when we started hearing howling and stuff coming from in the woods. We ran almost all the way to boykin. We went every year after that but never had the same experience.

    I have to try going again! First time I went out in late 2019 they had parts of the roads closed. I believe due to some flood damage making them inaccessible.

    That big ,dark building would have been cooler if it had a couple of red balloons floating just to your left as you entered it

    Do you happen to know if the spring water is still flowing from the pipes into the creek? I thought I had read somewhere that it was not flowing.

      This part of Texas belonged to the Caddo for hundreds of years, long before Spain showed up. They were forced into Oklahoma.

    Former Floridian, I'm enjoying Texas very much other than trash strewn everywhere, graffiti, and a pretty amazing murder rate. Despite those, I'll probably stay.

    Probably thousands of dollars in spray paint there and they even carry ladders in to do it, sad.

    • @lelandgaunt9985
      @lelandgaunt9985 2 місяці тому

      The ladders were brought in by vehicle is my thought. Because the asphalt road is maybe 250 meters away.
