    Appreciate the video! Great to see something for athletic men because there is not much for male DR out there like there is for women.
    I'm 63. Training since my 20s. Got severe DR + umbilical hernia, started seeing the vertical 'alien' poking out when I did any type of forward ab movement and thought it was just my normal anatomy. From everything I've researched, severe DR and hernia can only be repaired via surgery. Came out of nowhere, thought it was fat at first, but it wasn't because it was hard with little subcutaneous fat, likely due to weak core, bad form, too heavy lifts. Surgeon thinks it was visceral fat causing intra-abdominal pressure, but my visceral fat was 12% on the BIA scale which is within normal range. Chronic lumbar pain associated for some time now. No other symptoms. Just found out I also have bilateral inguinal hernia. Surgeon advises to do that first. Not looking forward to the post-op pain and downtime. But I have no choice, if I do nothing, the hernia can get incarcerated, etc. Surgeon is a highy-trained specialist that does laparoscopic surgery, non-mesh for the DR, mesh for the hernias. Would combine with abdominoplasty (the only area I seem to collect any bodyfat is love handles and rear). I can hardly pinch anything except skin on my tummy. I've had a few surgeries in my lifetime, but not cutting into my torso! I, too, had pretty good abs prior to all this. Will I ever get them back? Any thoughts or advise would be greatly appreciated.

      Hey! So my external abs came right back no real appearance changes once the swelling from the surgery came down. The nerves in the area did take awhile to head though, the longest right above the belly button. This took nearly one year for me. Everything is back to normal. I competed on a body building stage 7 months lost surgery best my waist and AB’s look In awhile. 2 months activating core felt very weird though and the first 4-6 weeks a bit painful if I contorted wrong.
      I’d do it all over again if I had too. I hope this helps!

      Surgeon says I will first need to address the intra-abdominal visceral fat. If I do not, the repairs will be under a tremendous amount of pressure and subsequently will likely fail, leaving me right back where I started. What I again can’t figure out is how it’s possible I have have so much visceral fat with my strict diet and exercise all these years.

    Hello and thanks for this informative video on DR for us guys. Have a few questions:
    1) was your surgery laparoscopic or open?
    2) was mesh reinforcement used?
    3) any scar remaining?
    4) how bad was the post-op pain and was it an out-patient procedure (you left back home after the surgery)?
    5) was you doc a plastic surgeon or general surgeon?
    6) did you get many opinions and what made you choose your surgeon (research, referral)?
    Thanks for your time consideration.

      -Laparoscopic
      -no mesh needed and still no issues
      -no scars
      -worst surgery I've ever recovered from but it's out patient procedure
      -plastic surgeon, most general surgeons unfortunately miss the mark all to often
      -I'm friends with my surgeon. He's the best in the game so no reason to look around. Almost no one can do this surgery properly without it ripping back open. I've had 4 surgeries from the same center every time perfect, with solid recovery.

    I have just developed this now. Can I ask if you were told that you absolutely needed surgery or was it something you wanted done to save time? I have just read and watched a lot about how this can heal over time with exercise. I really don’t want to deal with the cost or scars from surgery

    • @DavidDeMesquita
      @DavidDeMesquita  Рік тому

      It can’t heal with time over excercises unless if it’s just happened. I only had a one finger gap. It can only be healed with in a few months of it happening but not fully closed up usually. In the beginning stages it can be healed how ever usually by the time it’s noticed it’s too late unless pregnancy was the cause

    • @DavidDeMesquita
      @DavidDeMesquita  Рік тому

      Just to add to it I took about 6-8 months trying to heal it with 0 progress besides my diaphragm getting stronger

      @@DavidDeMesquita Right. Well I’m three weeks in with this and have seen two different physical therapists who gave me exercises to do but honestly it doesn’t feel right when doing them and I think its made things a bit worse. So I’m just resting and giving my body time to heal a bit. I don’t want to do anything that may aggravate it more

    • @MKH816
      @MKH816 Рік тому

      @@DavidDeMesquita and also, a one finger separation doesn’t really seem that bad. I’ve read that that is quite normal and not severe. Unless you were experiencing a lot of pain?

      @@MKH816 1 finger on paper isn’t bad. Issue was it felt like my stomach was dropping. So anytime I would go to hug my wife I’d have violent burps. Also effected digestion. From a visibility standpoint it wasn’t even noticeable.
      Exercises I have an entire workout program on my UA-cam, it worked well for me but won’t close the gap if it’s been for awhile. Worth giving it a shot instead of spending the money on PT work and using that towards surgery if it’s needed

    Damn I have this issue. How much was the surgery out of pocket?
