- gen:LOCK is here and it is HAPPENING, Y'ALL
This is pretty much a Gundam anime, and I could not be happier. Incredible world building, and we absolutely love the characters, the action, the mech designs...everything, basically. It's beautiful and I need it in my life.

About damn time. More reactors watching gen:LOCK, the better for all.
Oh, they confirmed that we will not get to know about the Union until season 2. This season is all about the main characters.
9:17 Most realistic portrayal of siblings ever lol
Well at the very least it's better than yang and ruby's relationship, which is almost nonexistent at this point.
Something some of us talked about on the Discord, it doesn’t appear that the Union is attacking civilians themselves, but is attacking escapes. The Union troops could easily just shoot the crowd, but only shot the escaping craft (and the civilians within). The later ambush had the Union wait for the evacuation ships, and didn’t target the refugees directly. Seems they want keep people around, but no escapes.
Donovan Willett or it could be that they can shoot the people later but they can’t shoot the people on the craft if they escape. Or just a simple ‘lose hope’ kinda thing. I’m guessing the latter
They didn't NEED to shoot civilians. Unless you were friendly to the Union, the nanotech was indiscriminate.
Well given they were grabbing people and pulling them into their spider mechs. Yes i doubt they want people to escape
I'm just saying that Roosterteeth missed an easter egg/reference opportunity by not calling the E.S.D. an "EMP" instead. You know Agent Washington would appreciate that one. XD
i love everyones reaction to the 4 years later scene xD
Anyone else get chills when all the mechs land halfway through the intro?
Based on the map while they were flying to New York, I place the Anvil base somewhere in Texas. Rather appropriate really, considering that's where Rooster Teeth is located.
I kind of want them to combine at some point in the series...just to fulfill the inner Super Sentai/Power Ranger fan in me lol
Can’t help but feel it’d be Cammie initiating it and just jumps on Kazu’s shoulders.
Not every mecha show has Megazord/Voltron, to my knowledge. See Gundam and Zoids for example. But because of who Cammie is, I expect her to do some anime bullshit eventually. Look at what she's already done to their Holons in recent episodes!
She did not just guess the biggest secret in this show 🤣
Can't wait for your reaction to Chase's condition, the only thing I can say without spoiling things is, I've seen worse.
Kiaxet's intuition for this story is uncanny.
You know, sometimes, your combined optimism is so infectious.
"they Got a bunch of ED209's....Mad Cat/Jagermechs!!!!........My Mechwarrior heart Cried.....sniff
war of the worlds also stared Dakota Fanning
You're the first person I've seen make ANY comment about the interceptor flying backwards. Everyone else just talks about the VTOL fans and how they can hover. Those are a real thing NOW (barring the fans ability to pivot like that). But intentionally flipping around, flying backwards, then turning back around like it's nothing? Yeah... nothing can do that.
Yet.
There's a maneuver which can be performed by current fighters called Pugachev's Cobra - basically the pilot cuts out the limiter on the angle of attack and yanks back on the stick, and the plane can tilt back to a 120 degree angle of attack before the drag on the rear of the plane causes torque to bring the nose back down. The maneuver was first done by Viktor Pugchev in a Su-27 in Paris in 1989. Considering the advances in thrust vectoring like the F-22 and the inclusion of VTOL in the Interceptors shown in this episode along with general tech upgrades over the intervening 50 years, and I;m not surprised by Razzle's burst of reverse flying at all
It's still awesome as hell, though :)
I've been waiting for this reaction for forever woohoo!
Hachi Aster “Ive been looking forward to this.”
I couldn't tell where they were coming from, the Colonel's head was in the way
assassin bot with camo cape
i can see why this show would be a "first" exclusive (with the whole VA talent and double ep running time then RWBY is)
Will afterbuzz be doing an aftershow for GEN:lock?
N0. They're now on anchor.fm
Yeeeessss. I've been WAITING for this.
SenMysrana “I’ve been looking forward to this.”
The Vanguard Striders are *heavily* influenced by the BattleMech designs from the long-running tabletop game BattleTech (the computer versions are called Mechwarrior) and similar other "walking tank" aesthetic games.
there is a computer game made in like 1988 called battletech:crescent hawks inception a sequel crescent hawks revenge and a recent reboot of the original called battletech. Also there is mech commander 1 and 2(same universe) for computer. Just had to correct the computer versions being called mechwarrior.
@@retrorocket9951 yes, but most people wouldn't be familiar with the mid 1980s BattleTech computer games, they would far more likely be familiar with the MechWarrior series of games from the late 1990's set in the same universe.
Have you tried the newest Battletech game for pc?
@@blackvial my system's barely able to run it, so I've only played it a little. But HBS has done a tremendous job with the game from everything I've seen. I just like miniatures and dice better.
“What if he’s alive, but he’s on the other side now?”
You may have thought you were wrong, but actually you pretty much predicted episode 5 and that was super weird XD you’ll see what I mean.
26:52 is done by Chad James of Death Battle
And said character is getting a lot of hate by the community
Thoroughly enjoyed your react! Looking forward to watching how you enjoy the rest of the episodes!
I ❤her smile.
Can't wait to see your reaction to... pretty much everything in ep 2. :)
BWF
Love this, love you guys! Glad you're doing reactions to these! I'm loving the in depth convos on Rooster Team Radio! For the folks reading this, they have a podcast where they go more in depth. Subscribe to it. Absolutely adore you two!
Great stuff, also mood on editing.
Interesting alternate reality, but definitely not our Earth in 49 years. I might have to find room in my budget for a First Membership.
You never know... our world changed drastically after the discovery and application of electricity
Y'all are soooo late!!!
Where y'all been!!
Yay it's finally here, hope u enjoy it and hope there will be more reactions to this show XD
i need episode 6 in my life
I feel for your sponsor. His Valentine's Day sale was derailed by UA-cam lol
First words from Katie, my first words to this reaction.
I've been curious if you guys would look at the hazbin hotel clips or if you wont
Every time I hear the word "tube" pronounced as "toob", I'm reminded of one character who likes his "toobmen" a bit too much.
Weaponized Nanotech is a personal nightmare of mine, I've read way to much science fiction where it has been used to terrifying effect.
I know you guys, the lore is too underdeveloped so far after the season.
Upload all the episodes now even the ones who haven't recorded yet yes I know that's an impossibility but I don't care I'm selfish!
I am sorry I couldn't get I just I just had that comment in my head and I'm so excited for you guys watching the show with us you know we all experience in this together this I like this show a lot so I just got the joke in my head and I could keep it inside even though it was terrible because I'm not funny
in character 4, they do mention the doctor wouldn't have been attacked if they hadn't weaponized gen:lock... so... maybe reason?
So I have a bit of a theory as to the origins of the Union. So, given the fact that the invasion of the Polity started on the eastern seaboard, we can assume that the Union controls Europe, and in the first episode, we see a propaganda poster for the Union, with its official name, "The Union of The Fourth," which, if you paid attention in history class, would be the next iteration of the German Reich, with Nazi Germany being the third, and the kaiserreich being the second and so on. Given the fact that the show is set only 50 years in the future, as well as the word union being the most prevalent part of the name, (not to mention the current economic dominance of Germany in the European Union, as well as its increasing attempts at centralization ), it is quite possible that the Union is actually a future version of the EU.
good theory but than you have characters like cammie, and doctor Weller who are from Europe. Cammie is Scottish, and weller is english. Also there is a certain character from the Union that appears to be from the middle east somewhere. Considering that they are called the Union my guess is that they're a conglomeration of countries from all over the world. Especially considering that the main cast comes from so many different places, From the U.S. all the way to Japan. It might mean that the union is a threat all over the planet
@@OneTrueWindfall Good point, just saying that it could have been the origin is all. :)
@@Jifider oh i would buy it, i didn't notice the Union of the fourth detail when i watched it. If this show is about the new axis powers and we're watching world war 3 i'm more than ready for that.
As I recall, The Great Union of the Fourth Turning Republics (the full name) is a reference to the Strauss-Howe generational theory (aka the Fourth Turning theory), and not a reference to a fourth German Reich. It's worth reading up on the theory, since it seems to potentially line up with what we've seen of the Union so far, and might provide insight into their motivation/ideology.
I love your React
According to if what I've read correctly the union is an autocratic organization. Means one politician. Dictatorship in its purest form yet this isn't the good guys this isn't building up to some twist the vanguard was the villains the whole time I admit I was sort of predicting that but no it's not and in fact if it is then I'm going to actually be very upset because there is I've seen the episodes after this one guys you have to lie to my face hard to convince me that these civilian killing m************ are the good guys
Those Striders barely count as light mechs in Battletech.
hmmm, the configuration varies but one has 2 SRM4s, 2 machine guns, and 2 Autocannons (AC2s?). I'm not gonna crunch the numbers, but I feel that's about par for the heavier end of the light 'mech spectrum.
They would have had to sacrifice quite a bit of armor due to them being so short
