Hi Dave I knew the late and great Jim Radolph to. When he was at KGFJ I sent him an air check. Me and the late and great Alex Marin were tight friends and radio buds. I was on the original KBLA with Huggy Boy. I'm the Masterblaster on air
"aaaAAAAT DOUBLEYOUUUU-VEEE-OOOOOH-EEEEEEYYYAAANNN!!!.....FOURTEEEEEN FIFTEEEEEEE!!!!....CIIIIII-CERROOOOOOO!!! LOL!!!".....back when DJ's still had fun on the air and were just as entertaining as the records they played!!
I was a little more than a year old when this aired. Born August 5, 1971 at Michael Reese Hospital at 31st & Ellis and grew up in South Shore. My Mom and Dad jammed all of these records and probably listened to WVON before going out to buy these jams. I'm so proud to be from Chicago!!
I too am glad to have been born & raised in Chicago in the '50s & '60s where I got my inspiration for radio & club jocking. I still listen to WVON on my phone on the I🧡radio.
@@Fiddlesticks62 I live Down South now so I'll have to get them some other way. I wish I still lived in Chicago though. Even though the city is crazy with the crime now, I still come home for the food and to go record shopping!
Jay Johnson has a midday show on nationally syndicated "The Touch" radio program format. If there's an automated black/R&B formatted station anywhere in the country, he's on there. He was a big part of my coming of age in college when he was at WTLC in Indianapolis. My college was about fifty miles away from Indy, and that's the only staton the black students listened to. The frats and sororities sometimes got personalities from the station to "spin" (we had vinyl records then!) dances they had as part of their weekend festivities. If only I could go back to those days! That was the best time of my life!
Lost art form...!!!..What happened to this Kind of Radio.?..I recommend the CD...Group HUGS...By Chas Bronxton (Not sure if I spelled it right,)Very Educational CD...About the History of how we lost...all of this .We need to reclaim what was ours...Just need to put our heads together...A GROUP effort!Yes!
I was a friend of Jim Randolph both in Chicago & LA. I miss those folks. Got to know Rosko & all the KGFJ staff as I interned there before KBLA. Thanks for the memories of of Chicago! I was born & raised there. Take care! I still listen to WVON on my phone on the I🧡radio. Love Jazz & flipside shows.
