"Today I will stare at the sea, until my eyes have had enough ... is that enough?" The way he rhetorically says "is that enough?" with such grief in his voice is so good.
What always amazed me about his writing is the ability to create certain pictures in my head while listening to his words.. a genuinely brilliant mind.
and I don't understand how artists like him are doing it. Do they really feel it everytime? I mean they are playing it so often, doesn't it getting exhausting?
There is something so poetic and genuine about all his performances. His music is timeless, and operates like medicine and meditation. Masterful underrated artist.
It's great and it's reminds me of Elbow in their prime live performances. If you haven't heard them, watch them with orchestra. It also has a bit of influence from Paolo Nutini latest album. I think there is a natural progression to make more mature and multi instrumental powerhouse music to be defined as "classic" and respected artists and I think that Ben Howard has done that with these recent live performances.
Why does he always send chills of love and transparency to my heart, in every song, his live depth over distance is too much to bear sometimes I listen over and over 💗
In every performance Ben has ever done his emotion is right there as if he's still experiencing what he's written about and he's back there in that moment in history. and also takes me and all his listeners there with him.
My mind is blown, loving this full, deep, mesmerising sound and the extra line-up. And so far much preferring the live versions of this and Towing the Line. Seeing him in London and Eden Project, can't wait.
This song gives me feeling like I’m an old man who struggled a lot and finally he is having a rest near the ocean. And you know what? I’m happy with this.
While the faithful dispose of a generation. And all of the mountains whisper knowingly, I order a Colada.. And sit, count my dollars, And watch eagles soar in circles Perpetually.
My take is, if I may. Ben is the "entertainer" through his initiation and subsequent relinquishment from the struggles of the real world in return for his compliance, at least non-blatant he gets to watch our world go to hell. His girl sits reading evacuation procedure for when that time comes. Finally the nature of the universe in which his karma gives him another life as an entertainer, to watch it all play out again, perpetually. Sorry if these come across as the ravings of a mad man, I can no longer tell if the world's gone mad, or if it's me.
Loved Ben since Every Kingdom, he's incredible. I've always said if he was around 20-30 years ago he'd be a huge household name like Bowie etc. Unfortunately now he's diluted amongst generic paint by numbers pop. He's one of the most talented musicians of this generation. Furthermore, How does he keep getting better?! Cant wait to see him in June.
Bowie's a weird comparison. Bowie dressed as a woman and pretended to be a Nazi in public and can't remember making an album because he was on to much drugs. Don't think Ben is much of a provocateur.
Oh okay. Dunno though. Folk like Tim Buckley never made it big in the 60-70's with similiar music. Ben being a sub-headliner at festivals after barely three albums seems pretty fair.
IFWWW, Collections, Is It have come and gone since I found this man's songs, but none of those albums compelled me in the same way this track does. The pinnacle of Noonday Dream for me.
My favourite song of the year so far and I know the album is going to be a masterpiece. Does anyone else agree with me when I say that I'm a little disappointed that nat wasons guitar was too quiet? His guitar was what really made this song for me that much more enchanting, nevertheless this performance was amazing and I can't wait to see them live in London next month
*LYRICS* Verse 1] Door is locked My gums are bleeding Outside she reads Outside she's reading The evacuation procedure out loud Clothes are off My health receding Somewhere she dreams Somewhere she's dreaming The Caribbean Nica Libres at dusk [Chorus 1] While the faithful dispose of a generation And all of the mountains whisper knowingly I order a Colada And sit, count my dollars And watch eagles soar in circles Perpetually [Verse 2] Door is locked My gums are bleeding Outside she reads Outside she's reading The evacuation procedure out loud Clothes are off My health receding Somewhere she dreams Somewhere she's dreaming The Caribbean Nica Libres at dusk [Chorus 1] While the faithful dispose of a generation And all of the mountains rumble knowingly I order a Colada And sit, count my dollars And watch eagles soar in circles Perpetually [Bridge] Forever, forever such a beautiful thing [Chorus 2] Now I'm older I don't look over my shoulder I know what is there in front of me Ten Marlboro cigarettes The rolled butts into the bottles Today I will stare at the sea Turn my eyes in front of me [Outro] Now, is there a now?
It's so great instrumentaly and poetry speaking that there should be an adjective like 'howard' for describing music and musical taste from now on. E.g. "Their music was good but for not being that 'howard' didn't hit many hearts" well, maybe the BBC Learning English guys will get and improve my point here hahahaha
Door is locked My gums are bleeding Outside she reads Outside she's reading The evacuation procedure out loud Clothes are off My health receding Somewhere she dreams Somewhere she's dreaming The Caribbean Nica Libres at dusk While the faithful dispose of a generation And all of the mountains whisper knowingly I order a Colada And sit, count my dollars And watch eagles soar in circles Perpetually Door is locked My gums are bleeding Outside she reads Outside she's reading The evacuation procedure out loud Clothes are off My health receding Somewhere she dreams Somewhere she's dreaming The Caribbean Nica Libres at dusk While the faithful dispose of a generation And all of the mountains rumble knowingly I order a Colada And sit, count my dollars And watch eagles soar in circles Perpetually Forever, forever such a beautiful thing Now I'm older I don't look over my shoulder I know what is there in front of me Ten Marlboro cigarettes The rolled butts into the bottles Today I will stare at the sea Till my eyes have had enough Now, is there a now?
Karim Nasr think it should be “of Caribbean” and not “the Caribbean”. Also the last part is “I’ve rolled the butts into the bottle tops”, and the last line is ‘till my eyes have had enough I think
Not far off 2 years since this masterpiece. The album doesn’t get enough credit
its a masterpiece
I love this album.
Might be my favorite album of his
Only discovered this album it's beautiful ❤
hot take i think Noonday Dream is better than IFWWW, albeit by a small margin.
"Today I will stare at the sea, until my eyes have had enough ... is that enough?" The way he rhetorically says "is that enough?" with such grief in his voice is so good.
My favourite part of the song
What always amazed me about his writing is the ability to create certain pictures in my head while listening to his words.. a genuinely brilliant mind.
There is something so honest and human in his performances
walking his own path
He has 0/2% interaction with his audience but he puts down an amazing live show! Just making music and doing his thing!
I love it!!!
and I don't understand how artists like him are doing it. Do they really feel it everytime? I mean they are playing it so often, doesn't it getting exhausting?
Unlike the Ed Sheeran's of the world, his focus is not on the popular tones of the charts. Good post, brother.
Yeah I can relate to his songs so easily
This is the best performance of Nica Libres ever. Incredibly enchanting and pure.
Watching Ben Howard perform is like watching a Master artist paint the most beautiful picture with words and notes.
There is something so poetic and genuine about all his performances. His music is timeless, and operates like medicine and meditation. Masterful underrated artist.
How does he manage to make you feel nostalgic even though you've never heard the song before. LOVE IT.
its the ben howard effect. every time
Is it because it is, to quote someone I cannot quite remember, 'more derivative than Toploader'?
that instrumental work, what a piece of art
It's great and it's reminds me of Elbow in their prime live performances. If you haven't heard them, watch them with orchestra. It also has a bit of influence from Paolo Nutini latest album. I think there is a natural progression to make more mature and multi instrumental powerhouse music to be defined as "classic" and respected artists and I think that Ben Howard has done that with these recent live performances.
indeed, thank you for the recommendations, cheers

I don't remember the last time I was so excited for a new album coming out! I love this man so much!!!
So much the same here.
@@tamasviar3659 you gave his newest album a try?
Ben is the greatest artist to join the Western hemisfere since Wim Mertens in the eighties of the last century. Absolutely one of a kind!
Why does he always send chills of love and transparency to my heart, in every song, his live depth over distance is too much to bear sometimes I listen over and over 💗
I was humming this song while my dentist extracted the tooth out of my mouth. What a piece of art, Ben! ♡
Hearing Ben Howard for the first time. His soothing voice and melody is totally priceless.

This man is a genius. Pure art in sounds and words. This would be my pre apokalypse song.
Heart affirming to see his gradual progression over the years. You've made it son.
one of the best performances for Ben Howard. He blows my mind with how much talent inside of him & his band mates.
Don't know why I even doubt if I would like it! Another one that went straight to my soul, you belong with the stars Ben.
Can't describe this performance and his music. Is so special that I can't find the words.
The violin here, the violin 💙
Violin? What about the bass. It's amazing.
I've saved this song for when I get home and can hook it up to proper speakers, I want to hear it in all it's glory for the first time
A true out-of-body experience
beautiful! raises you so high, for a moment you feel like an eagle soaring perpetually...
Was fortunate enough to hear this live at Red Rocks. A night I will never forget!
Going to see him again in 12 days time.... can't wait. 👌
Loved this guy from day 1 of his career. Every album is a masterpiece in its own individual way. Roll on Edinburgh when I can watch this Live!!
In every performance Ben has ever done his emotion is right there as if he's still experiencing what he's written about and he's back there in that moment in history. and also takes me and all his listeners there with him.
🤍🤍🤍🤍
What a magical moment... mesmerizing

Best one from the new album so far
I have listened to this at least 50 times, and counting.
Damn genius, how can you get me tears that I can not control, YOU'RE ONLY BEN.
This song gives me feeling like I’m an old man who struggled a lot and finally he is having a rest near the ocean. And you know what? I’m happy with this.
This is the first time in a long time that I’ve been enthralled by a live performance. Masterfully done.
I seen it live wit this band at the Shrine Auditorium in LA what a perfect setting and sound. Thanks Ben ⭐️
Amazing song!! It gets better and better everytime you hear it 😍
It's crazy just how much is going on in this soundscape.. amazingly layered.. kinda crazy how I felt a bit of sadness wash over as it came to an end..
While the faithful dispose of a generation.
And all of the mountains whisper knowingly,
I order a Colada..
And sit, count my dollars,
And watch eagles soar in circles
Perpetually.
What an unbelievable chorus

This is a musical masterpiece. Mesmerizing, complex and soulful. Love it.
Forever....Forever....Such a beautiful thing. (Ugh... This man and his story telling)
Raw emotion, gets me right down to my core. So much energy felt listening to this stunning talented beautiful man.
Wow.. I mean so many musicians playing so beautifully and subtly. Ben Howard just creates such a wonderful vibe
I love this performance. Slide guitar and violin are fantastic
Pure masterpiece. Absolutely genius, mature, peaceful music.Feeling so sad that this album sounds like his last one...

What a time to be alive!
Lucky me who heard the leaked album already...you will be amazed. Everything just keeps that level of creativity and wonderous.

Bowie's a weird comparison. Bowie dressed as a woman and pretended to be a Nazi in public and can't remember making an album because he was on to much drugs. Don't think Ben is much of a provocateur.
Clumsy Sandbocks I'm not comparing Ben to Bowie musically or personally. Just in terms of scope and how he should be appreciated musically.
Oh okay. Dunno though. Folk like Tim Buckley never made it big in the 60-70's with similiar music. Ben being a sub-headliner at festivals after barely three albums seems pretty fair.
Honestly, who cares how much anyone else appreciates or doesn't.... we do and that's all that matters!
Love this song. Also, love how Mickey is wearing a Hiss Golden Messenger t-shirt!
This, days of lantana and the strange last flight of richard russell all share the same vibe. Love these songs.
That bass thought. Masterpiece.
Earworm of a choon,if ever there was one.
Can't get enough of it atm.
Ethereal and entrancing. Such a beautiful elegance to this song.
Masterpiece.
Ben Howard drives with him and his artists a rich and fabulous music! A real pleasure to listen to this talent since its beginnings!
This is GOLD.

Absolutely agree with you. I also think the vocal effects are a litte too much in this performance.
That. Was. Perfect.
Sarah Cairnduff yeah that was my first thought. The additional strings are beautiful though
ThePlugga44 I don't like his distorted vocals, really disappointed. Soo much better pure
ThePlugga44 the album is a massive let down.... Sorry
Enchanting
CornerCutting - wow I’m just floored !

*LYRICS*
Verse 1]
Door is locked
My gums are bleeding
Outside she reads
Outside she's reading
The evacuation procedure out loud
Clothes are off
My health receding
Somewhere she dreams
Somewhere she's dreaming
The Caribbean
Nica Libres at dusk
[Chorus 1]
While the faithful dispose of a generation
And all of the mountains whisper knowingly
I order a Colada
And sit, count my dollars
And watch eagles soar in circles
Perpetually
[Verse 2]
Door is locked
My gums are bleeding
Outside she reads
Outside she's reading
The evacuation procedure out loud
Clothes are off
My health receding
Somewhere she dreams
Somewhere she's dreaming

While the faithful dispose of a generation
And all of the mountains rumble knowingly
I order a Colada
And sit, count my dollars
And watch eagles soar in circles
Perpetually
[Bridge]
Forever, forever such a beautiful thing
[Chorus 2]
Now I'm older
I don't look over my shoulder
I know what is there in front of me
Ten Marlboro cigarettes
The rolled butts into the bottles
Today I will stare at the sea
Turn my eyes in front of me
[Outro]

at least tell me where you think these are wrong so I can correct!

I think
Cal Norman
Till my eyes look back at me.
Until my eyes have had enough
