- This is a full length studio version of of The Dancing Years by Ivor Novello probably dating from late 1970s or early 80s, and starring the late Anthony Valentine. Ivor Novello shows are sadly neglected today and in need of revival.
How splendid to have a complete version of this great musical preserved. It shows how important and impressive the original show was and the cast here are rather better than the shortened film version that stays clear of the Nazi themes so central to the proper production. What great tunes! If you find one memorable number in most modern stage musicals you are lucky. And what heart there is too! Ivor Novello was such a talented man. If you search around on the web you may find a remastered version of this for sale on two DVDs.
Thank you so much for this wonderful movie. So many memories of when I was in the show playing Greta. The music is beyond compare!! ❤️❤️
Wonderful music and performed so well! I remember with great pleasure playing in the orchestra at
Wolverhampton Grand in the revival with June Bronhill in 1968? It was superb. Great memories...
😢😢😢 Sad Movies always make me cry 😭😭😭
It is a joy to find the archive recording of this nostalgic masterpiece, albeit recorded for TV. It is particularly a gem as it features to perfect singing voice of Marilyn Hill Smith, the world's leading soprano who has made Ivor's music part of her distinguished and prolonged singing career. Prospective Producers thinking of a revival of The Dancing Years would do well to watch this TV production for inspiration & help on producing such a magnificent stylish format on stage......
This is such a wonderful film. Thank you for sharing the complete version. So lovely to see the great actor Anthony Valentine and his wife starring together!
Thank you very much for posting this wonderful video on youtube! I was moved by seeing this classic musical. The song - Waltz in my heart which is always in my heart! so grateful....
I remember watching this with my gran and my mum when I was very small. Great stuff.
Just loved this production,
Thank You
An enchanting masterpiece of the past.
I love this - have been trying to find this production for years having very happy memories of seeing it when it was first screened. So much better than the earlier British film version.
Same here. :)

I must admit to loving both versions ; just can’t get all that gorgeous music out of my head.
Margaret Jones l found this superb studio edition of dancing years what a pity that are so few productions of this standard made today.
For Anyone, i have a better version of this on DVD at the moment... i was able to get the VideoTape many years ago from the original London Sudio's and not long after that i had a DVD of this beautiful music movie. I'm amazed i just found it here on You Tube. Good work.

It was a great pleasure to interview Marilyn Hill Smith on my radio show Theatre Nights some years ago. A lovely lady and a talented one. Her rendition of Glitter and be Gay I will never forget on BBC TV. Her wish was to play Mimi. I adore Dancing Years.
