Hi Mike, I really enjoyed your review of the Terramaster F8 SSD Plus. I would be grateful if you could do a video on the more advanced setup configuration.
I echo this comment - found your channel after finding a few reviews that were thorough around hardware, power, and noise, but very little operational usage. Your method of review was very thorough and informative, and I REALLY appreciated the performance info you shared : BlackMagic is my go-to method, so it was good to see. Also appreciated the comments around fan noise and performance compared to the QNAP and Asustor - the other 2 devices I was considering. I've ordered the F8 SSD Plus based on your fantastic info, thank you!
@@MikeFaucher I'd be interested to see the manual storage pool options - for example, if I populate 4 of the NVMe bays, and install TOS to 2 (or more) of these during F8's initial config, can I still use RAID5 instead of TRAID, or would it be best to install 2 smaller NVMes purely for OS usage? Effectively, end up with 2x NVMe's in RAID1 for OS and smaller shares, and 4x NVMe's in RAID5 for storage pool? Sorry for the long comment... brain dumping :D
Great question. For straight file performance I think it would very similar, however there is quite a bit of difference between the two units that I would definitely consider getting the F8 Plus. Much more powerful CPU/GPU and double the RAM will come in handy for running apps, decoding, and other uses. Hope that helps.
@@MikeFaucher Thanks for the info, Though after thinking about I've decided to stick with my QNAP TBS-h574TX why.. because of the TB4 connections. I a running out of disk space so I just ordered 4 8TB WD Black NVME drives which are on sale right now for $649.00 each..
@@kuau714 Yeah, the TBS is a great unit and is my daily driver. Have you considered a second server with hard drives to offload from your SSD storage when needed? I use mine for all my video work and offload to an UNRAID server for cold storage when I complete a project.
Hi Mike, if you can, please make a speed test with a normal RAID configuration as the TRaid from TerraMaster takes a hit on performance spite allowing you to mix the drives. I quite interested to see what is the difference. Many thanks for the video.
I did try that on a different Terramaster NAS and did no see any difference. Your point is well noted and I will put in my list of testing I plan to do with this device. Thanks for the feedback.
At about 2:35 you state that the air is sucked in at the top and exhausted at the bottom. This doesn't make sense. Air should enter at the bottom and exit at the top because as the air is heated inside the unit it become lighter as it expands and rises, creating a chimney effect. Please check on this. Thanks.
Under idle they do not change much and only heat during heavy use. NVMe drives (as other drives or electronics) are designed to run at a certain temperature. Honestly, I feel SSD are more reliable the spinning drives. Great question.
I would definitely like a video on more advanced configuration and recommendations.
On the list. Thanks for the suggestion.
Excellent overview of the Terramaster F8 SSD Plus. 👍Thanks, I'll order one straight away.
Good luck and let us know how you like it.

Absolutely, I am going to work on one. Any particular topics?
@@MikeFaucher Hi Mike, Thank you for the reply. I am interested in the Surveillance Manager and also the security settings on TOS6
@@highplainsdrifter2298 Awesome. A security settings video is in the works, and we will add the Surveillance manager soon.

I’m interested in a follow up video on more advanced configuration, I ordered this NAS but Terramaster isn’t a brand I know much about.
I certainly plan and doing more on these. They have been around for a while but they are just recently mainstream.
Excellent review do you think the non plus version would give the same throughput performance ?

You are absolutely right and I called it backwards. I will add a correction to the description. Thanks for pointing that out.
do you feel the NVMe s getting hotter during regular use.
i wonder if its cutting corners on cooling which could lead to failure when used 24x7

Can it be set up for local storage connected by USB with no internet access?
No, it is a NAS only. You can however do a direct network connection (ua-cam.com/video/u9mQ69YiZAg/v-deo.html). Hope that helps.
How would it go running Proxmox with 32GB ram and ZFS?
Have not tired it yet but I believe it would run great. I may try it in the near future. Great question.
If I add NVME’s that had media on them already, will they be wiped when setting up RAID?
Yes, absolutely. Backup your data first. Great question.
@@MikeFaucher Thanks!
I’d prefer nfs over smb
It will support both so you can choose. Thanks for the feedback.
