good editing and humour new sub never thought i would watch 12:36 seconds of metro trains entering and leaving sydneham
LOVE THE VIDEO!
The “fault” may also of just been the train waiting at a virtual signal, (because it doesn’t use conventional signals, it uses HCTS (High capacity Train signalling) because of the earlier train being late.
They could have been testing something, it stopped part way into the station so I don't know what it would be waiting for
when these test trains get to Chatswood, do they have a crossover to return properly on the correct track? I assume it is still isolate from the working section so cannot use the existing crossover.
Also has anyone worked out when this new section is open, how many sets of trains are needed to do the peak hour every 4 minutes, and how many during off peak 10 minutes interval?
great video, great style - subbed 😂
Hey, I was wondering where you captured your footage as I’m here now but can’t find a good place to take videos because the entrance to the concourse part of platform 3 is blocked off. Thanks
I hope they change that doors closing announcement to the more Aussie one that already exists on the northwest metro
Thanks so much. Been waiting for this for so long. Does this happen constantly or only certain days, now? can I just turn up and see all this?
What time of day is the testing being undertaken and is it possible to get a glimpse of it being undertaken at Central station?
How close are we to seeing the first revenue Sydney Metro service to Sydenham leaving Chatswood??
It’s a little weird how the platform screen doors opening sounds like a fire alarm
very true never thought about that
It will most likely be changed to what it currently is on the Northwest Line. Most of the announcements you hear in these testing videos are for testing purposes only.
Perhaps the train stopped at the end of the platform as a test of an emergency stop system?
Potentially, it did stop suddenly so that could be one of the reasons.
Hey Elliot, any ideas of when this line will open? Which month and date?
It’s said to open in 5 months time
It’s looking to be in the next 2-6 months from what I’ve been hearing from friends at Syd Metro.
Hi Elliot, interesting seeing the Metro trains in action testing at Sydenham. When are these Metro trains due to start fully operating there? The tunnel looks to be quite close after leaving Sydenham. I used to live at Marrickville on the Bankstown line until moving to Melbourne in mid 1981. While living at Marrickville, I often visited Sydnenham station by train. Anyway, all the very best. Rob in Melbourne Australia.
Thanks for watching! It’s looking like the line will be opening in the next 2-5 months. :)
@tsetstransport We talked to a metro employee and they said it should open in June or so 🎉
Cool! 😊
Nice vid love you patron
Would be nice if the main rail network has those doors on the platforms best way to prevent suicides.
It would be - but it’d be very expensive and would just unfortunately be impossible. Hopefully they can implement some sort of new feature to help reduce those sort of incidents!
@@tsetstransport Exactly and those incidents cause major delays too.
Yes, it would be great if all platforms on all passengers train systems had PSDs. Pre-conditions include rollingstock with the same door alignment and a system to ensure diver trains stop at exactly the right place. Unfortunately full self harm prevention is hard and includes a large number of mitigations including secure corridor fencing, full height bridge screening, intruder detection coupled with automatic train management and of course, PSDs! All new rail corridors should start with these principles in mind.
Are they doing manual testing with a driver controlling the train or are they doing driverless testing with the trains being controlled by the A.I computers??
It’s a mix from what I’ve heard - most of the trains I saw in this video were being manually driven, but it had been confirmed that they have began doing driverless high speed testing.
It is a little concerning how the metro trains don’t always align with the platform doors, which maybe a problem during regular service.
The computer system doesn't always align dead on perfect, but at the same time, there's a secondary system which will not release the platform doors if the train is too far misaligned. When it goes into passenger service, there are many systems that work together to calculate passenger load, braking requirements and location requirements. So far, the section that is open in the North hasn't had too many issues with stop markers, but it's just the way each train is built is slightly different, so each one till have a slightly different stopping position, hence why the platform doors are much wider than the Metro doors
Well that's one of the reasons why they're testing the line, to get the alignment right!
@@exploringsydneysrailways Yep, oh well, hope they get it right before the middle of the year, haha.
@@driverm4544 Really good explanation, thanks.
The trains are manually driven (at least, when I was there) but they have began driverless testing now. It’s just a matter of the drivers getting used to stopping positions on the new line. Not to mention that there’ll most likely be faults on opening day like back in 2019 when Stage One opened.
I wonder where they're running them from. They still have gates and stop signs across the portals at the Chatswood end.
I wonder the same thing, especially since I counted 9 seperate trains not including the bonus 5 in the depot, it makes me wonder how all the trains fit in there and if they even end up parking them underground, but it’s most likely that they now to run it up to Tallawong empty as I have seen a lot of empty metro trains go past stations on the Northwest which most likely means those are the ones that travel down there for the day.
Oh man, you’re so lucky, I’ve been to Sydenham 2 times in a row and haven’t see any😂.
Been FOUR times and never seen anything!
@@geoffreymoore1510 😭 geez haha
I wanna go up to Sydney when the metro extension opens
This Saturday and Sunday (3rd and 4th of Feb), buses replace Metro services between Tallawong and Chatswood. So I imagine they're doing some extensive timetable testing! Hopefully we get a date soon
That would make sense - I wonder if they brought some trains from Tallawong down to Sydenham the night before the closure, I have noticed (and it was mentioned in the video) that I believe they are getting the trains from Tallawong and are bringing it down to Sydenham.
@@tsetstransport there were at least 8 sets parked in Sydenham stable when I went pass yesterday (Friday at 8:50am) and 1 just left Sydenham heading to the city.
why are they fliping the bankstown line into metro?
So it can run into the new tunnel from Chatswood to Sydenham. Sydney Metro trains use incompatible signalling to Sydney Trains trains so they need to be kept separate.
Trains on the bankstown line run through the city circle, which is at maximum capacity. converting one of the lines that run though the city circle to metro adds capacity on all the other lines in addition to the line being converted.
@@AShadowinthedark at the moment it is quite fun studying the Bankstown line pattern. Going to the city, it can go around Town Hall side first, sometimes at peak it goes around Museum first, or sometimes alternate. You have Liverpool train via Bankstown at Platform 19 at Central, Lidcombe at Platform 22, or in the weekend Liverpool train also from platform 22.
How many humans does it take to drive one new Metro train, I know it is not none
Ooo nice second
when is the Hawaii? season coming!

Interesting that they've changed the announcement so it's in King's English
It’s most likely temporary for testing purposes only. They should change it back over to the normal announcements used on the Northwest before opening. :)
You and Paul...Phil and Sharath at Victoria Cross Open Day all in da house What's wrong with that... nothing wrong and 'why NOT' spelled backwards..They don't know it that I am the biggest fan of all of them..See you at the next one 😊
i love scr
3:41 Wow, I hope they replace that English accent with something that doesn't sound like a bored posh uni student whose toy has run out of batteries!
🤣 it’s most likely just for testing purposes, they will almost certainly implement the existing announcements on the Northwest, although I’d like to see them re-do the station announcements similar to the announcements onboard as when there’s an announcement for train doors opening, closing, train arriving etc. they still use the Text to speech voice since day one.

What security measures are in place to prevent Hi Jacking by hackers ? Lets face it even our Telco`s and numerous Government Offices have not been able to stay safe. Who or how many will die due to driverless trains ?
In general, operating systems will be air gapped.. ie not connected to the public internet..
Information flows, like train position will generally be one way using specific APIs
Still not 100 % sure as these hackers are ever so smart and dangerous. Live human content is the only way to make people feel safe,@@mark123655
