I Made the First Klein Bottle Terrarium (Very Difficult)

  • Klein Bottle Terrarium... Here we go! I've been planning this one out since I got the suggestions awhile ago and I knew it had to be done. This was by far one of the most challenging terrarium builds I've done to date and I'm sure it won't be the last. Let me rephrase that, it will probably be the first/last Klein Bottle terrarium, but not the last challenging build.
I don't have much to say other than that. I hope that you enjoy this build because it wasn't easy to pull off. In fact, I almost didn't do it, but I pushed through and made it happen. Enjoy!
If you have any comments, suggestions or questions, leave them down in the comments! Also for additional content like this, photos of my terrariums, projects sneak peeks and more, follow me on Instagram @SerpaDesign. / serpadesign
Want to buy a Klein Bottle? There's aren't many places to get one, but here's where I got mine. www.kleinbottle.com/
Also I'm sure someone will ask about the flexible grabber. Here's the one that I used in the video. amzn.to/2tohWcD

Finally got a chance to make a Klein Bottle terrarium! Did you enjoy the build? Also as I said in the video, there's much more to come in 2019 and beyond. I'm working on a ton of terrarium build and will release them over the course of time.

    • @Jimjolnir

That's a really good idea. Maybe coat the magnet in a thin layer of silicone (to not scratch glass if it flips or drop) and then stick a thin piece of foam on it. Oh my... you could have used a similar idea to get material into the klein bottle! Make a small tube, like a mini elevator (think the transport tubes in Futurama) with an opening on the side of the top, and glue a magnet inside. Fill it with material, push it up the klein bottles opening with a stick, connect the magnets, and drag to drop material into the bottle.

There's a way that movie special effects people create articulated tentacles that might be a cool way to populate a terrarium like this. Lot more effort required to build it, but it might let you place things easier. The video "Animatronic Character Basics - Cable Controlled Tentacle Mechanisms" from Stan Winston School is a good intro to it. I have no affiliation. But when I saw you struggling to get things into that vessel that mechanism popped into my mind.

This was really well done and creative. I got respect for you for the amount of time you put into doing that. I plan on trying to build my own jar terrarium in the near future, inspired by your videos.

Looks like the best guess for working with a Klein bottle terrarium would be to mix it all and add it all at once : substrate, moss and fern spores, tiny stems and let it all settle and grow. Small flexible branches could be inserted for hardscape too.
Crazy challenge you did there, Congrats !
