To be fair, he makes it clear that there is a difference between picking up the portal gun as an object and equipping the portal gun as a usable item. Having the portal gun equipped allows you to shoot portals but doesn't count as holding an item, but if you hold the portal gun as an item than you can't shoot portals with it.
7:21 I'm not sure whether it would time out like I imagine, but you may have been able to save time by falling onto where the orange portal would be and then grabbing the camera the moment the portal opens up. It all depends on whether falling onto that surface is exactly as fast or faster than it takes for the portal to appear, as otherwise the camera would fall and you would just fling through, soaring above it as it falls. Either way, you got it this way, so congrats on that!
instead of literally going against when you said "the portal gun does not count as an object" in the boss fight you could just allow the player to get one of those other cores in the glass box
The amount of scripting to get this to work as elegant as it is must be quite large. Great idea and greater execution. Thanks for making my flight more entertaining

@@Rain0T Doesn't work. You have to specifically compile the map to be gel compatible if you want to use it. The P2 maps that don't use gel aren't compiled to use them.
Easy explanation for why the portal gun doesn't count; it *isn't* an object. It's a prosthesis. You can actually see when you look at chell that it takes the place of her arm; It isn't something you carry, it's something you use to carry things.
No, it's a gun. You see in the ending cutscene with Wheatley and the moon, it's not attached to her. Her arms are intact. A prosthetic arm requires the limb to be missing in order to be replaced. This is no more a prosthetic than a power tool

It's kind of how the Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device can be simply called the portal gun. There are various subtle references to Emancipation Grills being called fizzlers, like the level named "Fizzler Intro" or various internal references to "fizzling".

This was an increadibly interesting challenge, i liked the concept a lot and seeing the extremely unique solutions for the puzzles are very very cool. Sidenode though: 6:40 (lighthearted) missed opportunity to say "I dont throw for content I throw and make content"
i have a idea and i suggested it before but im not sure if you saw it, how about portal but the portalable and non portalable surfaces are swapped, like you can place portals on black walls but not white walls?
There's a camera in Portal Carousel on a white wall. Would make that chamber easier if you grabbed it (note also for anyone else planning to do this mod)
fun fact about bridges: if you place a portal at the end then a portal right above the start of it it makes 4 bridges you can climb up and also you can climb with them by having a portal-able surface at the end of it then have it go anywhere where then you can jump and place a portal and the bridge will let you stay on it when it lands, making you able to climb to the top of a portal-able surface (as seen at 21:26)
i found a glitch in the mod where you put 2 portals next to each other on a wall and enter one, you get into a stuck state, allowing for a super-reportal of any speed you wish as long as you can unstuck (by portaling on a surface RIGHT below you but dont attempt it on higher areas) this was how i got to the cube in Ricochet Edit: make sure you haven't held an object or else it doesn't work since you just pass through the portal
10:30 This is not propflying, this is item climbing. Propflying is only possible in the old engine and doesn't exist in Portal, it lets you fly anywhere even if you aren't against a wall. Item climbing only lets you climb walls

At the end of a level I try to preform a trick that I call elevator boost were you jump at the end of the straight part of the stairs down to the end of the stairs and jump as soon as you hit the ground like a perfect bunny hop.
That's called a slope boost. It works in pretty much every Source game. If you time it correctly and enter the elevator right as it opens with this, that's called an elevator prehop.
I found a strange glitch that made it if I dropped an object in test chamber 7 it would fizzle. I don't know if anyone else found this but I don't know what caused it I just grabbed Wheatley cause thats one of the chambers where you can .
If you can simply hold the portal gun in the final boss to make it possible, cant you just complete the entire game switching bewteen holding your portal gun and using it?
That’s not that good of an idea I’m sorry, but he would have to completely reinvent everything and even so, what would be changed? The idea is too vague and doesn’t sound like it would be fun to watch or play when executed

while the Finale 4 gimmick would have probably worked well in the chambers without props, I like the comedic payoff of it only being in the finale

It all depends on whether falling onto that surface is exactly as fast or faster than it takes for the portal to appear, as otherwise the camera would fall and you would just fling through, soaring above it as it falls.
