    I have never seen a video of this many hyacinth macaws in one place

      The video was taken from a purpose built hide, near Hyacinth Valley Camp, one of Southwild's so-called Wolf Camps in Parnaiba Headwaters National Park in Piaui in the northeast of Brazil, when you visit the hide, sacks of palm fruits are spread out for the macaws, this attracts them in significant numbers. The man in charge Lourival Lima is a former illegal wildlife trafficker, he now ensures that these fabulous birds that he once trapped, are very well protected, as he and his family are making a good living out of wildlife tourism. These macaws that were in danger of disappearing from this part of Brazil, are now safe and doing well again, as is the other wildlife. At the camp a host of other birds and also common marmosets visit a bird table to feast on the food put out for them, and maned wolves regularly come through the camp at night, although to see the wolves, you need to move to their Wolf Cliffs Camp, deeper in the park. This is a very remote and out of the way part of Brazil, but well worth visiting for the macaws, the wolves and to see nutcracking capuchin monkeys.

      I hope they are taking precautions in preventing disease transmission in feeding animals, particularly with the primates. Hope these birds make a strong comeback as they are close to extinction now, supposedly around 6500 individuals. And the trade in wildlife is banned. No zoo or captured for pets or biomedical.

    Living in a flock, away from humans and no cage to sleep in, living just like a bird should be. honestly hate that these birds have been seen more often in a household than in the wild

      Save your money for an ecotour where they keep you at a safe distance for the animals’ safety and don’t expect the animals to entertain.

    What r they eating? There's so many of them awesome to see. I heard they were endangered

    • @inyathi
      @inyathi  2 роки тому +2

      Yes I am afraid they are endangered because of the illegal pet trade, poachers in order to catch young macaws will sometimes cut down the trees that they nest in, as they nest in large holes this can be major problem, the chicks are stolen and the adults are then left without any suitable nest trees, as the all the ones with holes have gone. These particular macaws in this area I think, mostly nest on cliffs, so loss of nest trees isn't a problem, in other areas if there aren't enough nest trees, they will nest in boxes put up for them. They are feeding on palm fruits, this is their natural diet, but in this case the fruits have been collected in sacks and then put down to attract the birds, so that tourists can photograph them from a hide/blind, the owner/manager of this set up, used to be an illegal trapper, now he is protecting the macaws and making an honest living from wildlife tourism In areas that are visited by tourists the birds are usually doing okay, landowners won't allow trappers onto their land.

      Definitely. Consider calling PETCO and PETSMART on their customer service line and ask them to stop selling birds. The less they’re seen in captivity the less people will think about buying them. For parrots, the pet trade is decimating wild populations and causing incredible suffering.

    • @inyathi
      @inyathi  4 роки тому +1

      It is at Hyacinth Valley Camp, sometimes called Wolf Valley, one of the company Southwild's so-called Wolf Camps in Parnaiba Headwaters National Park in Piaui in the northeast of Brazil, this is pretty remote part of Brazil, that wildlife tourists have just started visiting quite recently, principally to see habituated maned-wolves and nut-cracking capuchin monkeys, as well as these gorgeous macaws.
