Road to 500 Days - Part 49: Jackrabbit

- Milton has more or less been conquered, but one thing remains: the plane crash. A remote site worth checking out, it has a stim and the new Jackrabbit thermos. Getting there is not too hard, unless there is a moose in the way...

It’s just crazy for me how confident and careless you are with the wolves. I drop everything when harvesting, travel without scent, and sneak up on wolves, while you just put arrows in their heads like nothing. 😅😂
I love the sound he made after killing the moose as if it was just such a bore 🤣 My goal is to one day have the hunting confidence of Zak!
Yeah it’s impressive, I don’t have the hand dexterity with my mouse to adjust on the fly when they take a surprise turn on you like he does. I try to only travel with smell if it’s not windy, so I have the safety of chaining torches with the wolves
Omg.. Zak is the goat with that bow. I gotta study that technique.
Haha I used to be like this, but after watching like 100s of hours of zak snipe wolves with the bow got me to learn how to use it. Thankfully it isn’t too hard but you’ll def get mauled when you start trying to get accustomed
@@matthewwagner7140 I use the same tactic too, but definitely not with the same ease. Granted I play on PS.
Don't forget to repair the Travois, Zak. 😎😎🍻
The cooking sound effects and the way they change in an easily-identifiable way depending on where you are in the process really is a QoL feature that often gets forgotten when the praise is handed out. There's games explicitly marketed as immersive sims that don't have that, despite it being one of the best kinds of immersion, the kind with subtly significant utility, the kind of thing that both encourages you to buy into the world and rewards that increased buy-in.
I love the minimalist way you play the game, it takes way more discipline than I have! Like 1 cloth, 1 stick a couple of teas and a few pieces of meat and you move out on a great journey. My struggle is I always feel the need to gather everything. Every rosehip, every mushroom, every cattail, tons of sticks. I’m just constantly gathering and always overweight as a result lol
A fellow loot goblin I see
@@gabrielneves6602 Oh I'm a total loot goblin! It's probably the number one reason I'm loving playing loper right now. Less loot equals less guilt when leaving something behind lol
I've been there! Everything has a use and you can run into almost any problem at almost any time, so you want to be ready for that surprise food poisoning or that unexpected sprain.
The one thing that helped me break that hoarding habit is setting a limit for "reasonable" in my own head. Two rosehip teas? Reasonable. Six? Overkill! And that goes for whether they're brewed already or not. Unless you're expecting to need them to warm up several times during a long trip in a blizzard, you don't need more than that.
Stick, though, are the one thing I still pick up obsessively! But you can safely drop them at almost any building "for future use" like you might do with coal.
@@gabrielneves6602 me too 😂and on Pilgrim it's so much worse - but I got better by now 🙃
I've absolute binged all of this series over the past 4-5 weeks after the first one popped up in my feed. I hadn't played the game since very shortly after it first released on Steam all those years ago, and had honestly written it off as a waste of my money since I remember just not really jiving with it at the time. I got back into it and am nearly 45 days into my first run on Voyager and I'm having a blast, thanks in no small part due to all the things I've learned from these videos! They're also great background/side monitor content for when I'm doing work stuff, your voice is so soothing to listen to.
This comment is awesome :)
Nice cosy episode compared to the aurora wolves filled previous ones !
in my run, I got caught into a blizzard while looking for the jackrabbit thermos, I had to eat the deer at the plane not to lose my well fed bonus.
To add on the crates by the plane crash in Milton: I have found combat or snow trousers by breaking down the crates on Pilgrim.
I just found combat pants on loper in the crates at the very bottom (by the fake bear cave)!
Long slow walk back to base, don't you worries survivors, I will weave you a tale of such wonder, we'll be back home and you'll never even know it took so long to get here
Great video, love what you do
Hey Zak, every time i hear that into to your vids i get a flashback of playing the ASCII version of Dwarf Fortress... cheers!
I once did the auto walk of shame off the train tracks when I got distracted.
I did it once as well, but managed to exit before dying.
Cheers... been watching your series from start since there were 46 episodes while playing myself...
I love this game but have been too busy to play in months! I'm getting my fix vicariously through Zak!
Everything’s coming up Milhouse!
I played the story mode long time ago. I mean episodes 1 and 2. Then I switched to the sandbox. Before the ep3 was released, I thought: "I shall play ep1 and 2 again". Whole time I was scratching my head "it is not how I remember it". When you mentioned the way from the airplane to Grey Mothers house. I do remember my first play, because of the bear on the bridge. And my character died several times on that route because of cold.
Hi, Zak. In one of the previous episodes (somewhere in the Forsaken Airfield area), you asked what would you change in the game if you had the opportunity to change one and only one thing. I would make it so that the pieces of meat could be put into the cooking pot standing on the fire by dragging, as if there were no pot, and take them out of the pot the same way, without using menu. I don't use cooking pot for cooking just because it's inconvenient.
Wow! Almost 900 hrs in this game and I never knew about this path! Thanks, Zak! Great episode...as usual. @1:21:10 Funny fire trick!
Finally finished viewing this 500 day run up to ep49 and I have learned quite a few things to use on my runs.
Man the Prepers Pie is the best I call it the Super Stim Pie!
stink line - also known as skid mark
good job today. a great way to start my day with a coffee and one of your videos.
I'm also a psychology professor, but I'm the complete opposite: I put lots of speaker notes in my Powerpoints and even have printed notes. It's like I don't trust myself to be able to explain things well on the fly (even though I then often end up ignoring the notes during class). I do find it handy to make a note of things that I want to make sure I don't forget to mention, though.
I am annoyed that I was just in Milton to get acorns and totally forgot to look for the thermos!
I have not played Story Mode yet (although I've watched other people play it in videos) but the saves are exactly why I want to try it once I hit 500 days in my current Pilgrim run (hopefully I have not jinxed myself by saying that!). I want to get experience dealing with hostile wildlife in a version without permadeath before I try it in survival.
I made some Breyerhouse Pies as travel food just because of their amazing calorie-to-weight ratio, although of course I'm in Pilgrim, so I have more cooking supplies available. Question, does increasing your Max Condition also increase your current condition by the same amount? (That would make sense, I guess -- if you ate one at full health, it would need to increase your current condition for you to still be full health after eating.)
One of the crates at the plane crash (this one next to you at 1:14:30) has a chance at a combat pants on interloper. I think the chance is 1 in 4 or something like that.
TBH I don't get why carrying the pie is a bad idea. It's more than twice as many calories as a piece of meat but 1/3 of the weight. Sounds to me like they were made for being carried around.
Thank you for the video 🙂🙃🙂🙃
As useful as I find the trevois, it can also be a gigantic pain in the ass for sure...
Why?
There are a lot of places it can't go. I've had to completely unpack it, move it, and repack it several times. Don't get me wrong, I friggin love that thing. But it can be a pain
Zak, which Jack rabbit is on the thermos? Larry, Barry or Harry?
20,000 days is almost 55 years.
1:39:57 in my run there weren’t tools and I bring them too. But I never thought about Farm as base… I stayed in greymother and always walk to trailer for the workbench. I think I move base when I visit Milton next in my run.
Honestly same for me setting up a base in the camp office in mystery lake. It feels more convenient than walking all the way to the trapper's homestead.
Your videos are awesome bud very helpful to get better at this game. Your great at this game its mind blowing how easy you make it look . Do you have any beginner videos? I'm newer to this game and this game is by far one of the greatest games ever 🤘
Thank you! Yes I have several - A beginners guide video and several interloper walkthroughs :)
@@Zaknafein thanks sir
While I like that there are bunkers in more maps, I really don't like that the spawns are static. It makes it too easy to find them. IMO each region should have 3-5 potential spawns at least.
47:45 where ever you go, there you are
44:51 There's a lost arrow on the ground
The one way cave near the bear in Mountain Town leads to the Prepper Cache for this region
Thats what this episode is about :)
The town you're thinking of in BG1 is Nashkel, close to the mines.
Thank you!
this game is great, but I'd be so scared of waiting my time
44:34 These people died pretty young.
1:19:00 I like staying in MT. Because it’s relativ easy and sustainable to survive.
I am curious if a good late game base could be in crumbling highway. You have fish, wolves, and an underground interior (incase the electrostatic fog spreads to the rest of the maps). I think I will be trying it. Do the wolves always respawn the quickest of the other animals?
Yes as fast as 3 days sometimes
@Zaknafein I think that happened the first time I went through keeper's pass! That was..... unpleasant.
57:10 in those places I loot the carcass because it’s not useful as feather farm
Coming up Millhouse lol
44:36 that’s my uncles name
Trav- whah not tra vah

I might be behind the curve here but I’m curious why you put down your bedroll when you pass time? Can you pass time in the bedroll? And warm up?
Yes,exactly
Awsome thanks
Did you pick up the arrow that you shot at the auria wolf
I started playing prerelease. Beta I think. So I have seen a lot of changes to the game. I'm not a huge fan of story mode. Since the redux episode 2 doesn't make sense. I killed the old bear in the keg, removed his ear only to be attacked and dragged away by the old bear!
I look forward to episode 50, it is bound to be special (right?). Also you know, Denmark rules Sweden (and Norway) drools.
What was that when you said Spawn? .... 58.03
When you spawn in Episode 1 in Wintermute
What days are you on here?
See opening
Missed that😅 thanks.
I’m on day 70 of stalker trying to reach 300 and 500 in the end
