This is my favorite royal blood album, I'm so happy you made this video! I hope you can do this with Will Of The People. I would rank them like this 13. All We Have Is Now 12. Hold On 11. Typhoons 10. Either You Want It 9. Trouble's Coming 8. Boilermaker 7. Mad Visions 6. Million & One 5. Who Needs Friends 4. Space 3. Oblivion 2. King 1. Limbo Also, you said Halloween by Muse sounded like this, where would that come in your rankings if it was on typhoons?
I dare the Typhoons haters who say RB have "lost the heaviness" to listen to Limbo -- it smacks harder than a lot of their other riffs. After going to the live shows, I think Typhoons was a hit -- everyone was grooving and singing along!
@@NightwalkReal Boilermaker's tone is kinda dinky which was a bummer, the 2019 debut was a lot fuzzier and heavy hitting but Typhoons and Limbo rocked my world. Mike's voice is even better than ever and they knocked it out of the park.
I'm a long time royal blood fan, and I struggle to rank the albums against each other (it's easier with individual songs) but I have to say, the live show for the new album felt like the best and most diverse of their history. Also, Typhoons is an absolute standout top track for me, it's by far the one that gets stuck in my head most. The chorus is just too fun... we even riff on it, like when we're ordering takeout "Thai foodddddd"
Typhoons isn’t a misstep. Royal Blood chose to restrict themselves to a small variety of instruments early on and by HDWGSD? they’d already started moving away from this somewhat minimalistic style. They have no obligation to follow any particular sound or use a restricted set of instruments. This album just shows that they can make great music whatever the sound.
The title track is one of their best songs ever, and the rest of the singles are awesome too. However, I haven't felt the desire to go back to the album as a whole since it came out
I love the album, but maybe that's because for some reason I only found out about them with this album. I'm super happy that Royal Blood and not Evanescence will be support act for Muse when they come to Europe. Looking forward to seeing them live again.
I've been a fan of Royal Blood for years and I think Typhoons was a solid album, just like you said. I feel like the songs are either bomb or just fine, but I love that they're evolving and when it comes to this I think that All We Have is Now is the best example - especially the orchestral version, simply mesmerising
Limbo is my favourite song by them! I really like most of the songs on the album, what a don’t like is the female backing vocals, especially on Who Needs Friends, there’s something about it which I just really don’t like for some reason.
Well as you can see, I love Limbo too. Not sure if I'd put it as my absolute favorite yet, but that's something I'm gonna have to figure out soon to make a top 10 songs video!
Every year i throw all my favorite songs into a playlist that i found during that year. (not just ones that came out that year, just as long as i found it during the year) and last year... Oblivion was what i put at the top of my list of 2021. i just love everything about it. now with Make me feel like it's Halloween by Muse, starting to get a Halloween playlist going lol. Limbo is also amazing. Limbo and Oblivion are interchangeable to me. best of Royal Blood in my opinion. Also don't forget to listen to the orchestral version of limbo! it goes just as hard as the normal version, if not even more!
This is an outstanding review. I might not agree with everything, (although you put my thoughts into words talking about Boilermaker, Oblivion, and Space especially...pretty sure it gave everyone chills) but you stated your thoughts excellently!
I’ve discovered Royal blood a few months ago and it’s the only music I’ve been listening to eversince xD My favorite album is by far the 1st (Royal Blood). Then the 2 nd one (HDWGSD). I personally like typhoons the least, BUT I don’t think of it as a misstep, on the contrary, I think it’s amazing royal blood had the courage to try something new, what they want instead of following what the fans want.
Loved it on release, but it's worn off a bit. I was in the first row at their show on Madison when they were on the Typhoons tour, and most of the new songs were great. Overall, I'd place it above How Did We Get So Dark but below self-titled. My favorites are Who Needs Friends, Limbo, Oblivion, and Space, in no particular order. Boilermaker is also maybe their best live song.
Am surprised by the Million and One take as I feel like it is the most "Muse-like". I think seeing some songs live really changed my perspective on them. Like Limbo I didn't really find special the first couple times I heard it but it absolutely blew me away live. I do think this album is top-heavy but don't mind that too much.
Do you not understand it, or do you disagree with it? I think the chorus is just a bit repetitive and the production of the bass in the verses sounds a bit weak.
I had no idea this album had a mixed reception, I knew some critics like ARTV essentially called it a singles album but his review was still pretty positive. Plus IMO it's a step above HDWGSD which had some great songs but was generally a lesser version of their debut, while Typhoons really showcased their evolution. I also didn't know Either You Want It wasn't well liked, that's easily the best deep cut for me. I'll probably listen to the album a couple more times and comment my own ranking soon
I thought it was generally well liked too, until I went to albumoftheyear and frequented some UA-cam videos and comments. Critically though, it did really well as far as I'm aware. Maybe I got the wrong idea though, and the people who didn't like it were just louder than those who did.
Look, typhoons is not perfect, but honestly if they made an album in the same style of the previous two it would’ve turned out even worse because by the end of how did we get so dark it already feels like there’s not much they can do with that style anymore…
My ranking from worst to best (no bonus tracks): 11. All We Have Is Now 10. Who Needs Friends 9. Hold On 8. Trouble's Coming 7. Mad Visions 6. Million and One 5. Oblivion 4. Boilermaker 3. Either You Want It 2. Limbo 1. Typhoons The closer is easily the worst for me, I'm not a fan of what I refer to as 'token closing ballads' in general, and with this album it sticks out even worse given how energetic and upbeat the other 10 tracks are. Who Needs Friends is a huge step up, but the riff just plods along and it's nothing special. Hold On got some radio play here in the UK, and compared to the other 5 singles, it just feels forgettable and lacklustre. Trouble's Coming I think is overrated and I'm glad you didn't rank it too high, I liked it at first but the high-pitched ticking noise got on my nerves and it was so overplayed, also I think the chorus is a bit too forgettable, so when Typhoons dropped, as you can tell from my ranking, I was hyped. Oblivion was definitely made to be a single, which I figured out from the first listen, and it rules. The top 4, pretty self-explanatory, because they're all great. Also, Million and One I only recently got into and its synths are awesome, especially in the bridge
I have two videos on my channel about them as of now. Reacting to a few songs: ua-cam.com/video/mMI8ZW5bKnE/v-deo.html Writing in TBHC style: ua-cam.com/video/cDlIW__uYzc/v-deo.html I've only really fully checked out tranquility base and their debut, but I'm definitely partial to the debut. I love the thrashy energy, but I haven't really listened much beyond that!
@@NightwalkReal Oh cool, I'd try the Humbug album if anything, since you've done both their high energy debut and their latest which is the most different one yet.
Does it have to be either? Can it not just sit comfortably in the “it was fun I enjoyed it” territory? Why does every album HAVE to be either this gold standard masterpiece, or total piece of shit that should never see the light of day?
So do you think Typhoons was a misstep for Royal Blood? Or an inventive change of pace?

King and space are elite. Easily the best songs they've written

Typhoons is probably my favourite RB album so far. Genuinely love every song on it
As you listen to muse I figured you’d like how’d we get so dark because it has that same haunting vibe that makes muse so good.
I do love that album, I think more than most people do...

Boilermaker
King
Typhoons
Oblivion
In Limbo

I don’t really see a muse parallel here - for me it’s daft punk through and through. It’s not bad, just doesn’t stick with me…
