I’m currently a Flight Attendant for United Airlines, and I was previously a Travel Agent; brother wants to become a Travel Agent, and so I’m helping him learn Amadeus before he gets the job at his preferred company (company requires Travel Agents to know the basics of Amadeus). Just saying that this video helped him a lot, and helped me quite a bit to give a refresher. Keep on doing what you’re doing big man; love it!

I received a job offer last week which thankfully does not start until early Sept so as far as GDS is concerned I have to go back to school. GDS looked so different years ago as I used to use this system, Worldspan & Sabre. Your tutorial makes everything so clear & wonderfully explained. I am preparing for my training as a travel agent in a company and this helps me get an introduction to amadeus(the tool we're going to use). I only have a headache for all the codes that needs to be put as well as codes of the cities😭

We are living in 2016 and this is ridiculous...thanks for the video anyway, I am going to am interview soon and they said all I have to do is edit flight schedules for passengers...I thought to myself it must be easy through some type of CRM website...but this shit looks like the matrix.
Companies use this type of program because Apple’s iTravel is still in beta. (not really) Amadeus is a “GDS” (global distribution system), which is a network operated by a company that enables automated transactions between travel service providers (mainly airlines, hotels and car rental companies) and travel agencies. I am working in the terminal tab, which is a command line. The Amadeus client software does have a GUI (Graphic User Interface) accessible by clicking the tabs at the top, separated by different travel services. The reason I am using the command line in the terminal tab is because it is much faster if you know how to use it, and most travel agencies would want staff to be trained to be as efficient as possible in making bookings. Also, almost all of the booking websites you may be familiar with are connected with GDS behind the scenes. Nadav Gur posted this response on Jan 5, 2012 to the question: “Where do Expedia/Travelocity/etc get their hotel inventories?” Repeating some of the other answers with a little more jargon - the big guys (Expedia, Travelocity, Orbitz, Priceline and lately also CWT) all have a sourcing organization that negotiates with hotels and chains and basically buys wholesale. This is called "merchant" inventory. They commit to a certain volume at a certain purchase price, and they can resell at a price they set (with some restrictions). This commitment gives them great margins. The hotels get reduced risk - and the OTA (online travel agency) marketing clout, they get the better margin. The margins can be as high as 20-25 (I've even heard of 40% in extreme cases) using this model. They all use GDS as gap-fillers, either when they run out of inventory in a city, or when it's niche markets they haven't sourced in the first place. The margins then are much lower, typically 15%. And remember, making it easier for the customer to do most things themselves is a higher priority than upgrading the workers tools. Command line is actually damn fine and it's not meant to be used by someone without the intention of wanting to learn more than the basics, there's no incentive to update the ways of how agents work, however automating a customer to perform their own changes without needing too much staff is very profitable comparably.
I would like to ask if there is a test access for amadeus. We book medical help and need to be able to try out a lot. The problem is, if we do that in the direct link the airline will get a lot of fake requests.. would be nice if you could help with contacts or anything you know. thanks

this would've been helpful in 2015 when I worked for a flight company haha. oh boi, this is SO nostalgic for me. i loved working with amadeus, it somehow felt "natural" to me, but I know that others had huge issues understanding what we are even doing. it's nice to see though that people still find this useful and that amadeus is still around :D

Software dev here, and only came after fascination of these systems stemmed from a Wendover Productions video. Anyways, surely there are wrapper UI front ends for these commands, right? Similar to the self service booking sites such as Expedia, Priceline etc... There's no reason to have an operator archaically use command-line codes and interfaces when a well designed GUI can support and automate many of the tasks demonstrated here, such as looking up and suggesting nearby airports, for example. My question is, who uses such an interface for booking nowadays? Is this as outdated as it looks, or still industry normal in some areas?
Absolutely, all those consumers booking websites are front ends for GDS systems including Amadeus. This tutorial wouldn't be directly accessible to a travel client but is a powerful tool for travel industry professionals

Hi Ben, I'm sorry I had access only during a short time through the class I was attending. Even the student mode version I was accessing was highly regulated and only available to travel industry professionals, and I haven't had access since. I ended up working in a field. I believe the site for the training for Amadeus was Amadeus University that was found at aeuniversity.com but it seems to have moved. Congrats on the new position! When I originally made this video, I made it with the intent of attaching it to some resumes and help me with my own job search. As a bonus, I really got a good understanding of using the program to make sure the video was accurate and so I could go back and reference myself if needed. I ended up never working in the travel industry and all the things I learned about the system kinda have faded away from my memory, especially since I have not had any access to the system. Omg this looks like shares. I work for an airline that uses shares and it's horrible. It's so old. We're switching to Amadeus and I though the system would be more windows based point and click vs this shares lookalike.
Shy Kamai-Sionesini There is a graphic user interface for many features. My understanding is that it becomes faster for someone with experience to work in the terminal, which is what I used for this tutorial.

I am not a professional in this field, nor do I work for or with the Amadeus Corporation, so this following information is just my understanding of it... As a GDS (Global Distribution System) it is interconnected with live global bookings for airlines, resorts, vehicle rentals and more... This is why Amadeus accounts have to be registered and setup with official Amadeus representatives who require certain industry credentials and probably subscription costs... The official global portal for Amadeus can be found here: www.amadeus.com/ And their official training site (requires an account) can be found: www.aeuniversity.com How I was able to access this system was through a Travel Industry training program available in my area. They had accounts registered that I was allowed to access in an educational setting. I would suggest this as the easiest way to obtain access, If you do not work for a company in the travel industry that already has registered accounts with Amadeus.

I worked with amadeus in Brazil for a few years too, then moved to SHARES, OMG amadeus was paradise!
In the beginning I hated it like hell.. All this code language. But once you get used to it is actually a bliss. So fast and so real time.

My agency uses Sabre but could change any time because of NDC and other things. Guess I'll start learning now.

Congrats on the new position! When I originally made this video, I made it with the intent of attaching it to some resumes and help me with my own job search. As a bonus, I really got a good understanding of using the program to make sure the video was accurate and so I could go back and reference myself if needed. I ended up never working in the travel industry and all the things I learned about the system kinda have faded away from my memory, especially since I have not had any access to the system. I am VERY happy that this video has found people like you who were able to find it helpful! Thanks for the comment, and rock on.

Omg this looks like shares. I work for an airline that uses shares and it's horrible. It's so old. We're switching to Amadeus and I though the system would be more windows based point and click vs this shares lookalike.
Shy Kamai-Sionesini There is a graphic user interface for many features. My understanding is that it becomes faster for someone with experience to work in the terminal, which is what I used for this tutorial.

One does not simply download Amadeus...
I am not a professional in this field, nor do I work for or with the Amadeus Corporation, so this following information is just my understanding of it...
As a GDS (Global Distribution System) it is interconnected with live global bookings for airlines, resorts, vehicle rentals and more... This is why Amadeus accounts have to be registered and setup with official Amadeus representatives who require certain industry credentials and probably subscription costs...
The official global portal for Amadeus can be found here: www.amadeus.com/
And their official training site (requires an account) can be found: www.aeuniversity.com
How I was able to access this system was through a Travel Industry training program available in my area. They had accounts registered that I was allowed to access in an educational setting.
I would suggest this as the easiest way to obtain access, If you do not work for a company in the travel industry that already has registered accounts with Amadeus.
