    I have had geese and they do get aggressive during breeding time. I think Eddie gave goosey goose a lesson and put him in his place!! It shows what a good natured dog he is by not killing the goose.

    Makes me wonder if the female goose is hiding eggs somewhere, I'd be looking around under house, behind the planters, etc. She may need a nesting box. If you keep them enclosed at night search every where for eggs there too. She may need to be sitting on them. Funny story with Eddie! 😂 I'm happy you two are taking portugese classes! Bravo for both of you! Have a wonderful week.❤❤

    Great to see you strive. As for fertilizer, plants of the leguminosae family enrich the ground they're growing on with nitrogen! Clover is a species often used for that purpose, and the seeds are pretty cheap. They will also spread themselves, and the fertilizing effect will be permanent, as opposed to fertilizers you have to add again and again.

    Ah, those geese. I’ll be dealing with them on my runs soon. They are all over the place here in Calgary in spring. They hang out near ponds and the river. When the chicks are about, you have to give them a wide birth as they do charge some times. And they like to hang out right next to the pathway, which can be an issue.

    Goose vs. Dog: it's not a mistake. You didn't do anything wrong. Both were following their natural instincts. I know a goose can become really aggressive, my husband had a hard time getting past a goose to get in his car. As for language classes, hang in there, we just recently finished. It is very tough.

    I hatched 12 geese a yr ago. I have 8 left. Predators got the others. I can relate to your story. Geese can get a bit aggressive but my most aggressive male will only charge up to anything and stop 3 feet short. Mine are more scared to actually make contact with anyone or any predator. Geese are wonderful to have on a farm but my ducks are my true love and joy.

    Get a roll of 25mm hole size chicken wire and tie with cable ties to the existing goose enclosure. The roll width need not be more than 70cm ( 700mm) that way the geese can't be harmed.

    I have followed your videos since the very beginning. We have enjoyed your farm experiences and often thought that we might like to move to Portugal because of the political divide and craziness of Trump. We love /loved your animals esp. DogDog. WE are not being critical , but it seems best to get rid of the geese . Sooner or later , esp. if you are on vacation there will be a more serious conflict. I love dogs and never had geese, only chickens. They look nice , but seem noisy eat your garden bed crops. Happy to see you are taking the language classes. I cannot imagine learning this language which is one reason I have never moved to Portugal. Good luck. It should be nice to enjoy full access to the whole EU!Take care.

    • @OKportugal
      @OKportugal  4 місяці тому +3

      Yes if we find a good home for them somewhere they wont have issues with other animals we would be happy to rehome them.
      These geese do free range on our farm for most of the day. They have access to our farm dam but they never go there, they actually prefer their small black tub bizarrely.
      We only shut them in that enclosure when we are out walking the dogs or have guests over.

    Are you able to have the geese and the chickens together or would it be carnage?

    • @OKportugal
      @OKportugal  4 місяці тому +3

      The initial idea was to have the goose in with the the chicken flock, to help guard them from predators, but the chickens bullied the goose when it was young. Now that he's much bigger, he bullies the chickens! So we have to keep them separated which complicates things a bit 😅 Since the incident the Geese stay very far away from Eddie so I don't think we will have any more dog-goose issues any time soon.
