Characters are real. This dynasty was control the entire Indian Ocean and eastern naval coast. At that time no one dare to go against their naval army. They attacked Sri Lanka and Malaysia with 10000 elephants in ships just to prove their word. Romans and Greek had vast trading with their dynasty and support from chola. So powerful in India and eastern countries. Bahubali and RRR are commercial and fiction but this is 60% real.
This movie is getting released in 600 theatres in USA alone. So definitely you can find it nearby to you. Already the tickets are selling so fast in states so try to see early so that you can experience it with packed Indian fans.

Guys… glad u enjoyed the trailer … to add on to what others mentioned….. this book in the 1950s did what game of thrones did the last decade but in paper format… the story was released week by week in a magazine/digest…. Apparently there always used to be a gripping ending and people used to wait for the magazines every week to read it. This went on for 5 years … over the last 60-70 years , several legends in the Tamil film industry attempted to make this into a movie… but no one succeeded that time as it was too huge to be made into a movie.. and also the technology was not as it is today to portray the story close to what’s in the books (it came out as 5 volumes of books as well ) .The director who directed Ps-1 , Mr.Mani Ratnam, attempted this 3 times before he finally made it. The opening fight reminded the opening fight sequence of Gladiator, the scenes between Vikram and Vikram Prabhu, the sea shore fight in Sri Lanka reminded of Troy, the scene where Karthi was alone in the sea reminded of Life of Pai, the rescue scenes of Oomai Rani reminded of The Lord of the Rings. the fight sequence of Karthi at the Fort reminded of The Scorpion King. Apart from these things the characterization is well handled. The cinematography and the lighting is enjoyable. The costumes and the use of jewellery takes the audience to the time. Sure there will be orders pouring into many jewellery shops atleast in Tamilnadu. All the characters are well portrayed by the seasoned artists of our film industry. The background music and the songs are delivered well by A R Rahman. Well choreographed dances by Brindha. Lovely lines by the lyricists. The sets are designed as close to reality by Thotta Tharani. You can start with Silsila ye chaahat ka song from Devdas.And for example Nimbooda Nimbooda from Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam.Or with Hrithik Roshan(the best onscreen couple ever)-for example Crazy Kiya Re from Dhoom 2 or In Lamhon Ke Daaman Mein from Jodhaa Akbar 😉
