- Due to a number of requests for more, here is Part 2 of the Controversy series. This one features Eugene Sedeno and Sherri Holbrook.
As a reminder - we are posting these videos with some hesitation, as we wish no ill will toward any practitioners mentioned in this video. But, questions continue to arise related to many historical events in Kosho Ryu. Incorrect stories and conjecture continue to be propagated related to Kosho. The stories shared in this recording are from people that were present first hand with James Mitose or myself during this time.
Please view this with an open mind. Once again, it is not our intent to create more debate. It is our intent to share the truth.

These videos helped me understand my professor's direction how gave belts. It was obvious it was not about skill, muscle, or knowledge. I did not understand why these students deserve their next rank. I study a form of Professor's Chow's Kenpo before it was certified as Karaho Kenpo taught by his student Ron Alo which he eventually changed to his own. Ron's first student Stan Mattson and his Student Bill Marron focused preserving Karaho or Kenpo Karate the way chow originally taught. There are several katas and not sure if they weren't Mitose's or added cause of the Japanese trips to add to chow's limited system at the time. As the self defense sets are obviously chows works and fighting drills Ron Alo's also knife defense from Alo, and Stan while station in the Marines. Beside all the history as I study a William chow system James Mitose was highly more praised for his position as a spiritual person as my school often are in churches or YMCA's much like professor chow taught not owning a school. There are only a few now these days who know this system anymore and I not saying it is indeed the same that taught Ed Parker, Ralph Castro, Emperado cause in Ron Alo's hand I know he felt it wasn't complete or needed more much like chows students but we do believe we have as close to chow's orginal system which would have Mitose's influence much in it.
Also Ego OMG Ego, Juchnik nailed it on the freakin nail head. Massive egos suffer in Hawaiian styles and American styles. Everyone is trying to compete with facts and fictions on lineage. I could say Ron Alo was the only one who had a letter from professor chow 2nd degree black belt to teach his own system. But that to me doesn't show favoritism or proof Alo Karate was approved non chow system as the other systems never had no approval but showed how technically messed up keeping a order or records clear.
Bruce is a fraud. He has been lying to people for years. Lately I have been talking to alot of people about this guy and everyone says the same thing. I went to a few of his seminars 7 years ago. I got caught up in all the sensationalism about his history and connection with James Mistose.That was until I started to do alot of research about him because people where telling me he was a fraud. At first I didn't like what people where telling me and I never just believe what people say unless I research it without proof. Through research I found out that Bruce is one of the biggest lies in martial arts history. It was a huge disappointment for myself and others in our group. For years he has been lying about his rank and history with James Mitose.That has all been found out now finally. He claims to have learned from James Mitose but only visited him in prison only a few times according to prison log books which has been proven. Many have seen the logs. Even without log books who in their right mind would believe he learned from James Mitose in a maximum security prison ? How is that people buy the stories of him having discussions in a room with Mitose in prison and Mitose showing him concepts. They would allow that in a maximum security prison ? with a convicted murder ? I have worked in prisons and that would never happen. In the book " What is Self Defense -Mitose" it shows letters that Mitose gave to Bruce declaring him Grand Master of the art. If you look in the front of the book in small print you will see that the book was reprinted by the "Kosho Shorei Ryu punishing company" ..owned by Bruce....letters inserted in the book perhaps? When you read the book there is nothing in the book resembling the material that Bruce teaches. The book clearly demonstrates karate and jujitsu techniques in a very basic way. Where is the Kosho Ryu ? Why does no one ever see that ? Bruce’s explanation over the years has been that books show “still pictures” and it’s hard to show these things as its not movement” .The book clearly shows simple techniques none of which even remotely look like the so called “Kosho Ryu” that Bruce teaches.There is no talk about any of his theories. Take Aikido for example it is not the easiest thing to learn as it is all movement and concepts yet many books have been written for that art and discussed in detail broken down into “still pictures” showing movement so people can learn from that. The whole history of Bruce and Kosho Ryu has been fabricated. In the 1980’s he was so popular because the internet wasn’t out at that time and the world could not connect to compare notes. Today these type of frauds are exposed do to the internet with people connecting and sharing and proving information.When asked to Bruce why about the book he wrote - "why is Mitoses signature in his book he wrote erased out ?". His answer is " because so no one could copy Mitoses’ signature". What a clever why to cover a lie. Things don’t seem to match here. The reality is it’s a lie. Why do famous actors and sports people have letters and signatures in books but do not block out their signatures?... That’s why we have hand writing experts to easily determine by cross referencing that signatures are real or not...no need to cross them out in a book .
Bruce talks in his videos about being true to ones self but he is the biggest twister of truth. He is a good showman and fabricator. Crazy how people follow this guy. Today alot of people have researched him and found out his lies. He doesn't have the following he had for years. Eventually people seek truth. Some know but turn a blind eye. Its sad.
There are three videos and over 4 hours of stating this man is not making something up. Why would anyone who is 100% legit even feel the need to do this?
Thank you for preserving kempo's past, it is so common for word of mouth pass down to change due to human failings even when we try to keep the ego in check our memories are not perfect.
