How should I finish the guitar? Colour, oil/lacquer, etc... let me know!

Personally, I am not a fan of guitars that look like my living room floor with those PVC slats with visible seams? I would make it now a solid finish to hide those lines. Regarding the bridge, couldn't you sink the mounting posts a mm or two into the body? there seems to be about a few millimeters with a raised lip. Other than that, it looks great! Can't wait for Part 3!

Cheers mate! Yeah sinking the mounting posts flush with the body would work and is my plan B assuming the action is too high still. Not sure I trusted myself to do that neatly at the time of filming!
I know what you mean about the seams, especially as the grain pattern is different on each section! Still deciding 😉 I just glued the neck on today so still have some time to decide

@@AlexisGuitars A flame maple veneer could work also OR "own the seams" and maybe add those racing stripes like the Yamaha Revstar and dark-stain the top :D

Yes a maple veneer would look great on a Junior, but I have plans for that on my next one when I also practice Binding too to clean up the edges.
I love the look of Yamaha Revstars... except the stripes haha! Maybe if i see one on real life I'll change my mind

Although, a dark stain top is what I'm thinking for this junior build!

Great video Mate, this fretboard grain is hypnotic. Stain and lacquer on the front and headstock, oil and natural color on the back and neck

Thank you! Yes the fretboard is beautiful. I like the idea of lacquer on the front and oil on the rest. I'll do some tests on scrap pieces of the Okoume and see how it comes out

The dog was very pleased! And I've had to remove a fretboard more than once, disheartening but usually ends up better because that fretboard is AMAZING! I usually put something at the top of the neck to approximate the string height of the nut when checking the bridge is okay - but your solution works well.

Haha yes Pelle seems to be enjoying the build! I had drawn everything out to scale and worked out the angle but somehow still miscalculated. Niel made a good point below about the string action adding a few extra mm so should be ok now.

Nice to see more of this project. I've never heard of the glue and paper solution. I may even have a bridge that could use that. I've been pondering what kind of approach to take with that.

    • @AlexisGuitars

Cheers mate! Do you mean the super glue and masking tape trick? I first saw it on Crimson Guitars' UA-cam channel and have used it ever since. They have a video dedicated to it.

    • @aharkness5657
      @aharkness5657 2 роки тому

@@AlexisGuitars No, I meant the loose bridge posts. Crimson Guitars is a brilliant channel, too. I've watched that a lot.

Haha sorry - I had a suspicion that it wasn't about the masking tape trick but I couldn't for the life of me remember the loose bridge posts in this video!

Don't forget the strings will be about 2mm or so off the fretboard, fret end dressing file is awesome!
Ps stain the front, natural back. You can check one of my vids for a really simple plain finish for the neck and back.
Pps guitar is looking great! Big improvemnt on your previous builds imo

Thanks a lot Niel! This build is giving me lots.of ideas to improve my design from last year's ggbo.
Yes the string action should balance out the neck angle with enough space.
I'm also settling on staining the front only. I'll rewatch your finishing vids. Really enjoying your builds mate
