Everyone is locked into their qbs and quit frankly Geno has great touch on mid range passes and he is more elusive than given credit for. Genos going to change some views this year. Hes in a good schematic situation for what we have going on
Gotta chime in here. So I would trade Geno for Mahomes, Stroud and maybe Jake Browning but no one else. I always follow the stats on QBs I don't regularly watch and there are really only 3 primary stats I use to judge and compare QBs. One is Comp % because it shows accuracy and I would say that if a guy is above 67% then he's in elite status, anything over 70% is just nuts. I also use not TDs or INTs separately but as the ratio, so TD/INT ratio. A low ratio is probably less than about 2.5 but guys who are above 3.0 are elite and anything over 4 is just insane. Then I use the Passer Rating because it encompasses all the other stuff. People say that PR isn't a good stat because it includes the receiver's YAC yards and so therefore it would not be a reflection on the QB, but that's simplistic thinking because when a QB's receivers have high YAC yards, it means the QB is highly accurate and can put the ball on a dime right where the receiver needs it in order to not lose his momentum to get them down the field. No one really took this seriously until Bill Walsh came on the scene with his very heady WCO in the 80s but that's why both Jerry Rice and John Taylor had all those YAC yards in the short passing game, which was designed to beat all those really tough NFC defenses like the Bears, Eagles, Giants, Redskins and later even the Saints. A passer rating above 100.0 is elite and anything over 105.or is nuts. Most QBs in our modern(ish) game with all the juicing of the passing game are in the 90s somewhere, so you could easily say that anyone below a 95.00 is a legit bad QB, especially as you get closer to 90 or below. So the sweetspot really is in the 95-100 range for most QBs that are good and can get the job done. So you like Matt Stafford but I've never really like that guy and his stats show it. He's really careless with the ball, he gets amped up, feels the full tilt dopamine hits of completing passes and then he crashes trying to force a ball in tight coverage and it gets INT. I honestly think DCs are baiting him to do because there's no way their missing this fact so why wouldn't they if it's that easy? His PR is friggin 92, which is horrible (that's what Colin Kaepernick's lifetime PR was). He's got just over a 2.0 TD/INT rating, and his Comp % is a really lousy 62.6, so no. Stafford is a flashy guy, puts up a lot of yards and throws a lot of TDs so people love him because of the drama he brings, but he pretty much hurts his teams more than he helps them. And it's the same with Josh Allen who everybody seems to love but he's really not a good QB either. Similar to Stafford in hype and positive stats like yards, TDs, etc, but bad where it counts. The most important thing any player on the team is to not turn over the ball with a fumble or INT, but he seems to love throwing INTs as his TD/INT ratio is straight garbage at 1.6. So he absolutely hurts his team more than he helps it and people need to start realizing this fact. Herbert, no, he's not careless with the ball, but his Comp % is a very basic 65% and his passer rating is a pretty awful 93%. All of these stats are from last season only, as you said to compare QBs straight up on talent alone, using only one season and the latest season helps to control for the flaws in development, etc. and maintains your goal here. It's really impossible to judge players on their "talent" without using stats because everybody's opinion is based on their own experiences and feelings for the player, and those can be easily misinterpretted and become overly biased. Who else, I would say Love as he really had a good season last year, and his playoff stats are off the hook, but for me, I just don't think he's better than Geno overall. With regards to Lamar, yeah, that guys is a rare and unique talent at QB and probably scares DCs all over the league, but he has a certifiable weakness, which finally the Chiefs exposed to beat them in the playoffs. And that would be his passing accuracy, especially on deep balls. Every QB in the leauge needs to be accurate on deep balls and he's just not. The Chiefs cheated their D towards the LOS to put focus on the run game and short passing game, and it worked. And now, as this is a copy cat league, every DC is going to do the same if they can. His overall stats will most likely dip this next season because of it. On the QBs I'd trade for, I think Mahomes is a no brainer for all the right reasons. With regards to Stroud, crap man, his stats are lights out and the fact that he's a rookie makes them even more amazing. He's got a friggin 4.6 TD/INT ratio, which isn't even human, in fact, it's slightly higher than Aaron Rodgers's career ratio which is 4.5! His Comp % is only 64%, which is odd because his PR is a very good 100.8. In the playoffs it was 100.3, unchanged, which suggests big games don't surprise him. Jake Browning only played half the season but when he took over he absolutely played better than Joe Burrow, so there might even be a real QB competition this preseason in the Bengal organization, at least in a fair world there would be. His QB/INT ratio was near Josh Allen's, but his Comp % was 70%, and that, folks, is elite. This is the first time he's played in the league and he really did crush it. While I'm not discussing totals here, he threw for almost 2000 yards, again, in half of a season, and passes were 243 with 171 caught, so he really lit it up, and his PR was a legit 98.4, for throwing only 12 TDs and throwing 7 INTs, it's really incredible that his PR was so high, I mean if he tosses 2-3 less INTs his PR would definitely have been above 100, and, again, this is without playing one down in the NFL before Burrow got hurt this last season. One last note about Joe Burrow. He's definitely an elite QB and his stats, even including last year, definitley suggest that fact all the way around, but it's hard to compare last year's stats because they were really bad. So, yep, he was playing injured even when he was starting so that probably had something to do with it, but in general, I'd never trade for a QB coming off of any significant injury because you never know how they'll respond on the field when they get back to it. Most everything else I do agree with you about, especially a no go on both Hurts and Lawrence and for different reasons, but you highlighted my exact thoughts on them as well. Okay, that was a mouthful but I'm good with this :-)
What is also important to this exercise is the fact that we had NO CHANCE of getting any of the qb’s listed! Damn hard to get a franchise Quarterback. We have been spoiled for years with a great quarterback!
The only problem I have with Geno is his leadership getting the guys around him to believe in him , that's something a backup QB has to learn by playing, the thing I love about Sam is he will go above and beyond to get the guys around him to believe in him, he just needs to learn how to be a pro and play smart , he has all the tools and so does Geno ! Go Hawks 🦅🦖💚
If we get some solid line play, on both sides, it takes a lot of pressure off of Geno. Just a fraction more time and not playing catch up can make a big difference. What I saw with Penix in Grubbs offense is his receivers had to make plays and win them. They weren't always perfectly placed bombs but they were placed where the receivers had some work to do if they wanted that catch and I don't recall seeing a team where so many receivers made spectacular catch after spectacular catch. Their draft positions tell the story. That said, the level of coverage is a lot better in the NFL. It's going to be fun seeing if Geno trusts his receivers because he hasn't really shown that and I've seen him take the safer play time and again. That's not the Ryan Grub offense. There's a lot of trust in the passing game and timed throws. If they can gel it could be a fun offense to watch especially with the RB's keeping the D honest. It all relies on that line play though.
Also Lawrence so far did not play better than Russ during the same time. And outside of size what is his upside over Geno ? Considering Geno is at least the same level arm talent

I think I have Geno at 9. There are 8 QBs I would trade straight up for. There are a few that I think might be objectively better, but the difference isn't enough that I want to start over with a new QB, nor take on their contacts.
A dude who gets hurt every game is insane value ? I think this is based on mostly the QBs ability not the age and contract. Richardson will have to go up a steep uphill value to justify his draft spot
Hasselbeck was a good QB. My only gripe about the player is that he couldn't throw a deep completion in bounds. I don't know how many I saw Darrel Jackson or Koren Robinson catch out of bounds.
This is exactly the problem . Guys like Geno keep us 9-8 every year so you can’t get a top QB or you stay middle of the pack. Same issue we had with Hasselbeck until everything was perfect and we went and lost the Super Bowl. Sooo, should we stay a B or become an F and go get a game changer? I don’t want to be terrible but we could waste the upside of the Russ trade. Should have went and gone up to get CJ Shroud. That was the obvious QB to get when we had plenty of draft stock.
A reminder that Tom Brady was drafted until the 3rd round and niners QB was the last guy chosen. Top QB picks are not a guarantee. Gino was a top pick and look what happened. I think he'll be fine.
I answer this assuming money is no issue and no consideration for expected longevity. Lamar, Burrows, Josh Allen, CJ Stroud, Penix, Caleb Williams, Patrick Mahomes, Brock Purdy, Herbert, Jayden Daniels, Drake maye, Jordan Love, Goff,
Geno is 2-0 over Goff the last two years, where Geno went out and WON the games over Goff and the Lions, ON THE ROAD, with outstanding QB play in a shootout. Not saying Geno is better, just a reminder that Geno has been "better" than Goff in those two games.
I don’t understand the Drew lock comments? Also, middle ground between Geno being a top 10 qb and a not good does not exist. He is a top 10 qb. It is not rational to take the middle ground between one logical opinion, and one bad opinion. That simply give you another slightly less bad opinion. It would be simply stupid to trade him, unless you have just given up on the playoffs. That is the message the Hawks would be sending.
Are you calling Geno Smith a top 10 quarterback? Laughing out loud I could easily name 10 quarterbacks better than him. He’s the fourth best quarterback in the NFC West you don’t even have to travel a division to find three quarterbacks that are better than him. I would take Jordan love or Jared Goff over him from the NFC North. I could say Kurt cousins and Baker Mayfield and Derek Carr probably all better than Geno. What’s not forget, Dak Prescott and Jalen hurt and we haven’t got the AFC yet there is a plethora of good quarterbacks better than Geno
There's an easy middle ground. In '22 Geno balled out and was a top ten qb. In '23 he wasn't. Not in completion percent. Not yards. Not tds. Not td to interception ratio. Hopefully this year he returns to '22 level.
I only people I hear questioning Geno are in the media. Calling him polarizing. And how the fans doubt him. I guess they think the bots on X are speaking for all of us. I have yet to see any actual real data to back up these views. QBs are affected by many things like poor defense that forces predicable play calling and bad run blocking that does the same. I guess in depth research is harder than just saying Geno was bad in the second half of last year and then talking about the Chiefs for 20 minutes. No one talks about QB performance in relationship to OL and defensive performance.
If they are even, you take the younger player. People seem to forget. If Geno this is actually just him going into his 5th year as a starter. So, if he was the fresh wide-eyed rookie he'd be 25ish. Just coming into his prime. His only knock is his age. Although in player wear his more like 25 than 33 because he really played 4 years out of 10. You ready Geno for age for most trades and nothing more. Some guys you have to trade straight up for. They are just better. Geno does have top 10 arm talent. And her runs well enough. I trade him for a lot of the guys. Not because of talent but because of age. Why trade old for old. It's silly.
What has Richardson shown you? Nothing. He shown you he can last was it 3 games in the NFL? God no. He can run. Who cares? Name 1 running QB to win a SB? I'll wait. No, I won't I tell you right now it's none. He has to make player from the pocket. Richardson has never shown you one whole game where he could do it. It took him years to start in college on a bad team. He wasn't good enough. He won in shorts. Sadly, the NFL doesn't play in shorts they play in pads. And in pads Richardson has shown you he's not a QB.
Honestly I won’t trade for Lamar or hurts. Not that they are bad it’s just they won’t fit a more drop back passing system. Also Herbert I won’t cuz of the contract assuming the whole contract is coming with.
@alginvestmentllc7638 I hear this a ton. I'm a fan of wilson the qb. But if John was willing to trade wilson to Cleveland to draft Allen he should have at least considered Lamar.
@@iron_bison I think John has a type considering he liked mahomes Allen and eventually went with Geno after Russ. He wants a QB who is more capable of being a drop back QB
Since you're asking this rhetorical question, I would only trade Geno for some really good draft picks. Geno is a human being not a flower pot. But I know nothing about fantasy football, and maybe this line of inquiry is in the spirit of fantasy football. Peace
The one sitting on the bench by the name of Sam Howell. He will become an all pro before he is done in the league!! Geno is getting paid 22 million against less than a million for Sam. Geno has to play or some upper managers will lose their job. Sam has all the tools to be successful in the league. It makes no sense that John Schieder is the only person in Seattle that sees his potential! POMO
Honestly right now there is only one QB I would trade him for but he’s retired. That QB would be Tom Brady lol. I know I will probably get crap for this but he has proven to be the best of all time currently.
@@ahaaha84 mahomes is a slightly different case... is mahomes success a function of his familiarity with the Andy Reid system? Or is the Andy Reid system success a function of mahomes? Brady went to a second, coaching-unrelated team, and won another ring
There is zero chance Jackson could run the offense Seattle wants to run. Overall, he's an average QB. The only reason he's in the league is he can run. If he couldn't run he'd never even gets drafted. He always seems to have his worst games of the year in the playoffs. Year after year. He'll put of your fantasy numbers but in the end win you nothing. That's been his career up to this point. CJ yes. Age, arm talent. Offense fit. Money. He fits everything. Young? My lord he was a terrible pick. How anyone could pick short and tiny of tall and big. He could turn out. But he'll be so limited at what he can run you'll win nothing with him. That was a bad pick. How anyone could what those two play in college and take Young shouldn't work in the NFL again ever. The tape showed you what both could do. CJ upside was miles higher. He'll not never a perfect team to prop him up like Young will.
Ya this one is a head scratcher. If there's any QB that's proven he could go to another team and not only win 10+ games a year but also win in the playoffs it's Goff. Actually he's the only one that's proven it. Even Stafford couldn't do it.
@florida1289 you could argue that he went from one elite-type roster with great coaching to another elite type roster with great (although different style) coaching
Mahomes. That is the only QB I think I would trade Geno QB for QB for. Geno's mighty f-ing good (set franchise records with basically the same offense Russ had I remind you) for what he is getting paid. Maybe Stroud because of age. That's it. I think we have as good a chance with Geno as any of the rest of the top QB's. O-line and D-line were our problems the last few years (the last year Russ was here too).
Thank you. This year, Geno is our guy. Let's support him. He's a good teammate and has a great attitude. Talking about him like this is a bit shallow, in my opinion. Peace

It's silly.
Mahomes, Allen, Richardson, Stroud and that is about it.....
Gino Smith is better than at least two or three quarterbacks in the NFL is definitely at least the fourth best quarterback in the NFC West.
That time john "always want to draft qbs," schneider drafted penny instead of Lamar....🙃
At the time that was middle of Wilson’s career. I don’t think the Russ loving people would be ok with that
@alginvestmentllc7638 I hear this a ton.
Peace
I wouldn't trade for Stafford, Love or Hurtz. I don't see those guys as an upgrade to Geno!
Jordan love played great with so so recievers.
POMO
Drew Lock.
Honestly right now there is only one QB I would trade him for but he’s retired. That QB would be Tom Brady lol. I know I will probably get crap for this but he has proven to be the best of all time currently.
You wouldn’t trade him for mahomes huh 🤔
@@ahaaha84 mahomes is a slightly different case... is mahomes success a function of his familiarity with the Andy Reid system? Or is the Andy Reid system success a function of mahomes?
Brady went to a second, coaching-unrelated team, and won another ring
Reid always a good coach never truly great til he had mahomes.
Lamar is more banged up than Geno. I can’t agree with that one.
Fun episode! Thank you!
Lamar ……
Goff=Geno .... Laughable. Goff 1 SB and one NFC Championship.
Ya this one is a head scratcher. If there's any QB that's proven he could go to another team and not only win 10+ games a year but also win in the playoffs it's Goff. Actually he's the only one that's proven it.
Even Stafford couldn't do it.
Goff is overrated. He played under two of the best offensive minds in football.
@florida1289 you could argue that he went from one elite-type roster with great coaching to another elite type roster with great (although different style) coaching
Goff is way way better than Gene ho
I completely agree! 🎉🎉 🎊
Gino Smith is better than at least two or three quarterbacks in the NFL is definitely the fourth best quarterback in the NFC West
Peace
This!👍
@Richard-il6wc As a Rams fan I know we have nothing to worry about while Geno is the Sea Chicken QB.
Delusional
@@danstvguy Geno is 2:2 against your lambs. And he was the one who almost made lamb chops when coming in the game cleaning Russ mess
