Can you give me ANY example of a war that was won by one side totally destroying the other side? That didn't even happen in the American Civil War (much of "southern" culture survived that war). Germany and Japan survived World War 2. I don't know why anyone still listens to Noam Chomsky.
I don't think you understand the meaning of 'destroyed'. Nations always emerge from 'destruction'
The Germany Military in world war II was destroyed. The only reason Germany exist today is due to the kindness of some of the allies such as the US, UK and Russia.
The third option is fight until resources are exhausted or Russia gets tired of war. Russia will quit after their resources are depleted and they have nothing left or the west gets tired of supporting Ukraine, but I don't think thats going to happen.
War of attrition seems to show signs of similarities with current news developments.
yknow in all likelihood the much larger and stronger country probably wont get exhausted first especially because they have dug themselves into a hole and are now fighting for the same thing as ukraine really. So they will never back down instead theyll keep infinitely escalating till they win or the both sides lose. Negotiations are the only way out
I like how he completely disregards Russian moral, sanctions, historical examples like Afghanistan and Vietnam etc.
he didnt. did USA get destroyed in vietnam war? no. they got drove out. just like he said.
Bro if Russia leave today and say we lose, just to remind everyone that look at this “They already razed Ukraine”.
Now sum up that USA gave a reason to Russia to throw nukes if things go out of hand…
I like how you disregard the circumstances. Russia is the strongest nuclear force in the world and their crazy president is dying. Worst case scenario, NATO joins, defeats Russia only watch the world obliterated in front of our eyes by nuclear weapons. Another worst case is that Ukraine does it alone which is not probably and Putin’s ditch efforts are nuclear weapons. Best case scenario, the previous two without the bombs but the scenario that is most likely with least fatalities is that Ukraine loses the war on their own ground and Russia happily walks away. The problem with Ukraine winning the war is that in any circumstance of that, the nuclear bombs could be dropped.
@Hatter Trips this isn’t relevant at all? I’m arguing that russia will lose, you’re trying to argue that thats somehow a bad thing. And on your point, should we just let russia do whatever it wants because it has a nuclear program with global reach? Does that same logic apply to the USA, China, France, UK etc.?
@BuGGyBoBerl the USA’s military capability in Vietnam was indeed destroyed by lack of moral and political pressure.
And after a same thing for Poland or Moldovan or Baltic states?

What are you, 13yr old gamer?
Jack of all trades, master of none. But if he goes back to just linguistics he'll have much better judgement.
It is not about who takes who, or fairness of concessions on either side. It is about stopping violence and negotiations in good faith, part of which is refusing the assumption that the other side is "incapable of negotiating in good faith". The other part - addressing the root causes and making fair deals without using force as an argument. Not too difficult if both sides' core intetest is survival, peace and prosperity. Third parties must not interfere other than in the role of intermediaries acting within strict frames of their diplomatic mandates. The last would also be the hardest one as too many parties have their fingers in the pie already.
That is defeatist. By your logic , no effort should ever be made to stand up for oneself. The conflict is too costly? You imply absolutes, yet then decry absolutes? Where is your head at? You seem confused as to the issues at hand. Do you fear the force of mass over logic?

Since this fall Russia has claimed itself that it has successfully mobilized 300k troops into Ukraine. So your numbers are off. There are likely only around 300k troops currently in Ukraine with very few original well trained brigades left in tact. They are hybrid brigades with lots of untrained and under supplied conscripts.
The current round or second round of supposed mobilization that is currently ongoing is made up of basically farmers with pitch forks being sent to the meat grinder.
