  • Have you considered the meal kit delivery service EveryPlate and wondered if it’s worth it? Let's take a closer look at the service including my personal experience over the past month.
    Review: moneyat30.com/everyplate-review/
After years of hearing about various meal kit delivery services, my wife and I recently signed up for our first one on a friend’s recommendation, opting to try EveryPlate - which I learned is actually owned by HelloFresh. Now, after a couple of months of using the service, I wanted to share my thoughts so far. With that, let’s take a look at what to know about EveryPlate, including the pros and cons.
The first thing to know about EveryPlate is that they have a number of different plans based on meal preference, the number of portions, and how many meals per week you want.
In addition to what they call their ClassicPlate option, EveryPlate also offers veggie-forward meals with their VeggiePlate plan as well as kid-friendly options in their FamilyPlate option. However, since I’ve only tried the ClassicPlate plan, we’ll mostly be focusing on that for the rest of the video.
At the time that I’m recording this, EveryPlate charges $4.99 per serving, with the choice to select between meals for 2 or 4 people and get 3 4 or 5 meals a week. However, unlike some other meal kits, EveryPlate does charge for shipping, which is a flat fee of $9.99.
Also notable is that service deliveries are only available for Tuesday, Wednesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays, although you can change your selected delivery day with enough notice if needed.
Next, EveryPlate users can choose from 16 different meal options each week, some of which include upgrades and customizations
Each week, EveryPlate customers can choose their favorite meal options from 16 reciepe picks. That said, you’ll need to make your selection at least 5 days before your scheduled delivery - otherwise EveryPlate will pick for you.
Among the standard choices are some premium and premium+ meals that can be selected for an additional cost. These recipes typically include upgraded proteins such as steak or fish and the extra fee is charged based on the number of servings. Previously, I’d personally seen Premium options at a cost of $3.99 and Premium+ at $5.99 each, but lately it seems like that’s adjusted to 4.99 and 6.99 respectively.
Meanwhile, there are also some customization options for things like side dishes or other proteins. For example, you may be able to swap out one vegetable for another at a cost of $0.49 per serving, opt for shrimp for an extra $2.99 per serving, etc. etc.. These available options will be displayed on your meal when you select it.
What’s also nice is that EveryPlate allows you to select additional meals at the regular per serving price should anything strike your fancy. Similarly, you can double up on recipes to fill out your weekly delivery if you so choose. In other words, there are plenty of options to pick from so hopefully you can find something you’ll enjoy.
When your EveryPlate delivery arrives, all of your pre-portioned ingredients will come along with recipe cards and cooking instructions for each meal
In my experience, my EveryPlate boxes have contained an insulated bag, with the vegetables and other ingredients residing in a cardboard tray. Under that, the meats remain closer to the ice packs to help ensure that they stay at a safe temperature. While the items are proportioned for the most part, keep in mind that they’re not necessarily arranged by recipe as some other kits might do.
Along with the food, you’ll of course also have a full-page recipe card that shows you exactly which ingredients you’ll need - including some basics like salt, flour, oil, and butter you’ll need to provide yourself. On the back of these cards, you’ll also find fairly detailed cooking instructions. We’ve actually taken to saving these cards so that we can revisit some options even after we end our subscription.
Finally, EveryPlate also makes it easy to skip delivery weeks and seemingly makes it simple to cancel your subscription if needed.
Whether you’re traveling or just don’t find any meals that appeal to you during a given week, you do have the option to skip a delivery. Of course, when you do this, you won’t be charged for that week’s shipment. However, you will need to cancel your week at least 5 days before your scheduled delivery. Once you do decide to skip, you’ll see a pause icon next to that week so you know you’re safe. Of course, if you want to take a longer break, you can also deactivate your subscription by going to Settings - although I haven’t personally done this. For now, skipping has been easy enough and so I’ll keep using this option when needed.
