Robert, what a surprise to be presented with this lesson. I'm studying this piece and wondered if the susteined pedal was used or not. Seeing some videos on UA-cam I realized that it was used indeed and when I tried to use it the piece got blurred. Now you show us what the secret is. Thank you from Brazil!
Excellent advice... wish I had come across this video before having to painstakinghly figure it out by myself, this technique works miracles in Schubert's D960 sonata, and without it I'd never have gotten it to sound good enough to record or play live. I often use the reverse version of this: play the melody in legato, use the pedal to emphasise colour notes in the accompaniment, like the 7ths, 9ths, any augmented notes from whatever augmented chords, or melodic/counterpoint bass notes or inner voices.
Another great tutorial Robert!
Brilliant.
Wonderful!
Robert, I so look forward to each new video! Fantastic! Thank you. Always encouraging and inspiring.
Thank you, Robert!

Super helpful. I tried the techniques on the Mozart sonata you played. Looking forward to your next video on pedal techniques.
Thank you,Maestro 🌹🌹🌹🌹
THANK YOU ROBERT ANOTHER 5 STAR LESSON !!!!
Great lesson
Brilliant, thank you very much
A very interesting and useful tutorial. Thanks very much.
A very interesting lesson. Thank you.
Goes to show there's alot more to classical than just "Play Exactly what's on the Page".
Merci beaucoup.
Super tutorial. Thanks
You filled the gap between notes 🎹
Thank you for acknowledging that Mozart/modern is a transcription! :-)
Good advice to avoid excessive pedalling which makes the melody mushy
Me so hyped up after to somehow know an advanced technique without knowing
Funny I did this already intuitively. Lazy pinky playing I call it. And coincidentally I'm learning this exact same addictive sonate.
My piano teacher made me learn that entire sonata without using the pedal. The reason was because I had to develop proper technique first.
That’s good advice: livingpianos.com/when-to-add-the-pedal-in-your-piano-practice/
