Hey. Thanks for playing. Minor correction, there's 35 arcade machines to unlock plus some additional games we never count like solitaire on the PC. It's also worth noting, you can choose to completely ignore the laundry after the tutorial and just concentrate on playing the game, and actually that's the most efficient way of making cash. This isn't explained until about 1/4 of the way into the game though.
Another commenter pointed out the number of games mistake and I fully own that. I misread some information and put in quite a lot of time and had that many so it seemed it "confirmed" it. I apologize. As for the game explaining that you should ignore it, I don't feel it's as clear as one would think. I stated in the review that money wasn't coming in fast enough and I stand by that and not doing laundry was literally leaving money on the (folding) table.
@@ExHardcoreGamer It's all good. I'm glad you had a good time with it overall. We're addressing some of the more grindy things and fixing a bunch of bugs in the upcoming patch so hopefully people will have a good time with it
Seems like the devs started out with a neat idea of managing an struggling arcade that required the player to basically work a second job. But then the devs either had trouble coming up with a reason to make the player keep the second job after the arcade got stable enough to not need it, or the devs decided that working the second job was more fun (or closer to their original goal) and kept the arcade side gig as just something to help make the game stand out. Point is, it sounds like the tried to mesh 2 different sim games into 1 and it wasn't as smooth as it should have been.
At one point your arcade will do well enough that you can ignore the laundromat before phasing it out entirely. I got to the point where the arcade made more money than doing peoples laundry ever could. Once you hit that point, the game really opens up.
@@angrytheclown801 I keep seeing people saying this but I felt like it took longer than it should have to get there and I kept worrying that my dad would get mad haha
Lots of neat touches and detail to it. It looks fun but would be a grind of medial tasks. Reminds me of theme park creator on ps2. You could build different coasters change prices of everything, pay attention to customer satisfaction. Even ride the coasters in 1st person lol Seems really cool!
Thank you. I think they did a good job overall of nailing a vibe even if it jumps around in references (you can unlock a DDR game and it's '93 and GTA definitely was after then as well ha).
It's business sim that isn't for everyone? good Been play Gas Station Sim might give this a go at some point

IMHO this is an arcade collection that has some sim elements. Other than in the tutorial you never have to do a single load of laundry. Even at it's most humble the arcade is making about as much as the laundry if you bust your @$$ to get an S rank on every load. Your time might be spent better getting the goals on the machines to bring their popularity and thus profitability up. The game has no time limit or failure state. The only reason to earn money is to get more arcade games and progress the story. Fun fact, the King Wash laundry is a store bought asset. You can find it in at least two other games by different indie devs. It's kind of thematically appropriate that the devs put all their time and love into the arcade part of the game and cared for the laundry part about as much as Ashley does. Also the last game you start before 2 AM you can play as long as you want. Time won't progress until you leave the cabinet. After 2 AM you can't do anything other than go home. The game says that you might pass out but that never happened to me.
Nice to know about being able to start before 2 AM, that would have really helped me out back when I was playing this more regularly ha. I really just needed the money to get more games because I wanted to play more than the 3 games it started you with. I needed money to expand fast, I didn't have the patience ha. Thanks for watching and leaving the comment. I may have to go back now. I also liked the fact about King Wash! Too cool.
At 7:50 you said there are 15 different arcade cabinets that can be unlocked. There is actually 35 & possibly even a few more than that. When you throw in the mini games plus "Air Hockey" "Pool" "Foosball" etc, that brings the total amount of games you can play to well over 40. Considering all this game has to offer, the grinding is worth it. "Arcade Paradise" is a winner!
You're right in that this does have its audience. I'm not part of that audience, but it seems decent enough for those who don't mind the more grindy parts. Those arcade games do look great and hopefully the devs will consider just putting them in their own separate collection at some point so that some people can enjoy them without having to worry about the management sim side of Arcade Paradise. While I most likely will pass on this one, I will probably give the soundtrack a listen and see if I can find some gameplay of the arcade games, and as always, I appreciate the review.
I think even if it was just the running of the arcade and cutting out the laundromat aspect it would really cut down on the grind and make it more appealing. Kudos to them for creativity though! Thanks as always.
Yeah, thank you. Definitely not something I have experience with. I appreciate you supporting by watching and commenting, plus you helped me learn something new!
It's 1993, definitely would be a good time to have an arcade. Super Street Fighter 2 was released that year and fighting games were still going strong in general. It wasn't until the late 90s that things started taking a turn for the worst.
@@ExHardcoreGamer I understand. It's just that I meant that there would only be about a 5 year cap in not only building the expansive arcade empire, but also maintaining it, generating a substantial profit, and creating a legacy of some kind before the business model becomes outdated and eventually collapses.
They definitely were a mixed bag but overall fun to play. It's nice to see that the game has had continued support with more arcade games being added to it.
Nice review! :) Since this game is also on GoG I might get it soon. Just one question: Can you change the keybindings in the game or do you have to use WASD?
Great question, yes the controls can be reassigned for keyboard, mouse, and controller. I will say though that a controller is highly recommended for the arcade games themselves.
@@ExHardcoreGamer Thank you very, very much! :) I have three controllers for my PC but I'd like to play FPSs with mouse and keyboard. But you're probably right, arcade games should really be played with a controller!
@@benflashman7320 I get where you're coming from, but this is more to just move around the world to walk to the games... Mouse precision isn't really needed or going to help you ha. I found that even when using a mouse it's sometimes hard to line up where you're looking to pick up a piece of garbage or get to the coin hopper and collect money, so youre fine with a controller always.
British Pounds let you, let me get this straight, _manipulate time!?_ Run faster and hire someone, whatever. But TIME MANIPULATION!? Damn, you Brits have _way better money_ than us Yanks, lmao XD
haha, like I said, the game has some strange logic! The upgrade is a nice one to have though, it slows down time so that you have more time each day to get things done. More time available can mean more time to play games!
Saw a trailer for this and got excited. An arcade simulator running my own arcade! Plus, you can play the games. I'm in! Hated the Laundromat part in the trailer but I thought "it's just at the start, right? It's gone later? Don't want to clean gum and wash socks i want to run an arcade!" Well, your review says it stays and never goes away? Ug. I want an ARCADE simulator not a Laundromat one. Guess i'll pass. Shame.
I tried to be as honest as I could about it. I know there are people out there that it would appeal to way more than me but I did have some fun with certain aspects and elements. Essentially it's a little too close to home when you're constantly reminded of all the other tasks you have to do before you can just relax and have fun with a game.
@ I've never met a man named Ashely in my life so this thought never crossed my mind. The only example I can think of is "Ash" from the Evil Dead series.

My mistake, thanks for seeing the error in my ways!
Great review XHG. I read elsewhere that there’s a well-known cheat that vastly reduces the grind.

Good review. Just a heads up most Laundromats offer a drop off and pick up service to do your laundry where they charge you by pound.
Thanks! Cool info appreciated!

Enjoy and welcome!!
Glad to hear that I was able to stay objective enough about it despite some of my negative feelings about the experience. Have fun!
LOL This looks fun, but starting an arcade empire in the '90's is kind of like starting a video game company in Jan. 1983.

I already preordered this game on limited run games. I'm so interested on playing it!!

I just saw this on the epic store. I’m glad I saw this video. It seems like a fun time killer to play while I’m doing laundry. 😂

The laundromat eventually does go away. You'll always need to remove trash and clean the toilet, but the laundromat steadily shrinks.
It's not that it never goes away, it just takes longer than it should to stop mattering.
