    Gosh aren’t linen pants just gorgeous. The linen has such a lovely drape. I learned about linen waistbands the hard way when I wore new trousers to work and had to tie them round my waist by lunchtime!! Thanks for this Whitney. Also very sorry to hear of the troubles near you today. I hope you weren’t too nearby and not involved in any of the trauma.

      Linen is gorgeous to wear, but temperamental 😂. I’ve also had pants grow exponentially throughout the day!
      Thank you for the kind words. It was awful news to wake up to. I didn’t know anyone in the attack, but I have some friends with connections.

    I like the twill tape in the waistband. In all my pants, I splice through the length of a waistband because I must have a contoured waistband. I like your method. Thanks. ~ L

      It would definitely work well with a contoured waistband as well!

    Thanks for this tutorial! I made my wearable toile of Persephones and I immediately noticed that it needs that waistband to be fully interfaced as well but I love how you’ve done the waistband! I’m definitely doing this in my next pair... mustard yellow!

    I hacked a ready-to-wear pants pattern many years ago, which is my go-to pattern for straight-leg pants. I haven't tried twill tape in the waistband, but will do that with the next pair - thanks! I struggle between having the waist too big and then "losing" the pants and then a fraction too small, so my bulges magically appear :) Perhaps the tape will help! Love the blue top you're wearing, makes your eyes pop! This is my favorite pair of your Persephone pants, very nice! Have a great weekend, Whitney!

      I have the same problem with waistbands! It’s a fine line I walk for the perfect waistband 😂

  • @cecilehoare3053

    I wish I could wear pale colours on the bottom, I find when I wear white or cream on the bottom I look like a bread truck! Love them on you though! Great job! *If you were to add a nude lining would you baste it in to each of the fronts and backs prior to sewing them together and putting the zipper in or would you make it separately as an independent ' pair of pants and then sew it in to the waist band? You wouldn't have to make the lining full length , maybe just to the knee to cover undies area.

    • @TomKatStitchery
      @TomKatStitchery  3 роки тому +1

      You could totally line the pattern. I would make a separate pair of pants without the fly piece and just sew it into the waistband and then hand sew the center front to the fly pieces.

    Thanks for this series I have just purchased this pants pattern. You have mentioned in previous vlogs that you sew clear elastic into the waistband for comfort, Could you please let me know which vlog this technique is demonstrated in. I took your advice on the daylight bulb in my walk in wardrobe and its life changing so thank you :)

      I'm so glad you enjoyed this! I do love sewing elastic into the top of the waistband seam or where the top of the facing seam allowance. I show this technique in this video of the Upland Trouser Sew Along: ua-cam.com/video/0Sz-fURPaR4/v-deo.html It happens around the 38 minute mark!

    Since you are my guru for fabrics, do you have a recommendation for sheets for me since I live in Ga for spring, summer and fall. We are looking at some sheets that are made of bamboo. Is it better mixed with cotton or not. My husband likes flannel sheets for the winter. Since I am in my early seventies, I have night sweats. Plus can some material start pilling because you wash it in hot water?

    • @TomKatStitchery
      @TomKatStitchery  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, some fabrics can definitely start pilling in hot or warm water. Typically, the lower the thread count and the higher quality the fabric, the less likely it will pill. If you can afford the extravagance, linen sheets are fabulous for keeping you cool in the warm months. Fabric-Store.com has some large width linens for just that purpose (and free patterns/instructions for how to sew your own sheets) on their website. If you’re up to making them, it would much more cost effective to go that route. I don’t have experience with bamboo sheets, but I have also heard some people swear by those as well!

    Great vid!!
    I really love putting in a fly the best of all zipper applications, I think they are the easiest-and love the top stitching details.. Speaking of which, I really need to make some jeans!!
    I don't know where you find the time to get so much sewing done-I guess it's because you're still young!! :+)
    I would love to see a vid on the easiest and best way to put in an exposed zipper, professionally.
    Have a nice weekend, and thank you!!

    I'm in Colorado, and we had a couple inches of snow last night. Spring??? I searched the Megan Nielsen website and could not locate the pockets patterns you mentioned. I don't see a link above, either. Could you please provide the link? Thanks for the tutorial!

    • @TomKatStitchery
      @TomKatStitchery  3 роки тому +1

      Yikes! We have some snow in the forecast, but I’m hoping that disappears. The pockets I used were from the Megan Nielsen Dawn Jeans pattern. However, I did link a blog post from the Anna Allen site where she provides a back pocket pattern piece that can be used on her Philippa Jeans or the Persephone Pants!

    Thank you for a great tutorial for the fly as well as the waistband. I just made a pair of Gobi Culottes from Itch to Stitch out of linen. Had to go down a size even with the hem tape in the waistband. It was my first experience with linen pants.
    Any thoughts of how to substitute a zipper fly for the button fly on the Gobi’s? Would love to see a tutorial if you would. ☺️
    Also, I must’ve missed a jacket video, what is the very colorful jacket to the right of your houndstooth coat?
    Love your videos.

    • @TomKatStitchery
      @TomKatStitchery  3 роки тому

      That’s a good idea for a tutorial! I’ll check with Kennis to see if she minds if I do some sew along/tutorials on her patterns!
      The colorful jacket is the Itch to Stitch Causeway Bomber jacket (it’s facing the silk side). It’s waiting for me to finishing slip stitching the side seam closed 🙄. I mostly wear it the other way around (it’s reversible) so I’ve gotten away with the seam not being finished, but it’s a small job that will take me just a few minutes to finish. I need to do that!

    Got the pattern last weekend and my friend suggested using coat snaps as closures... and a skirt hook just for added security. Think that might work?

    • @TomKatStitchery
      @TomKatStitchery  3 роки тому +1

      I think that would work. I used a coat snap for the closure on my shorts (the second pair in this series) and it seems to hold great!

    Can i ask why you didn't just sew the twill tape inside the double width band, please? Would that work?

    • @TomKatStitchery
      @TomKatStitchery  3 роки тому

      You could definitely do that. I prefer my twill tape to be hidden by the seam allowance so it doesn’t show on the right side. However, depending on your fabric, this might not be an issue!
