@@Jdeadevil I think Izzy has a bit of a unique perspective since he is from a developing country and knows these Famiclone and other devices really aren't meant for the developed world, where many potential customers probably have a Game Boy, Color, GBA, etc... kicking around somewhere anyway. Their market is probably the developing world where access to video games is expensive. I also find it interesting that it seems these Famiclone devices really do seem to be (slowly) improving in terms of quality. Hey izzy, could you review the tinypi pro, once you can get your hands on one? The AGS-101 GBA SP is still the best way to play Game Boy games. It has nice buttons, is very compact, has 15 hours of battery life, has a really nice and vibrant screen, and you have the option to play game boy games in wide screen or the original resolution. If you don’t want to lug around all your games, get a SD cartridges for the Game Boy color and Game Boy Advance and put all your games there and switch between them.

Bought this. It came with a button that had a witch's wart, A headphone jack that was malfunctioning out of the box, light bleeding through the plastic on all corners, dust on the IPS screen, and buttons that would get stuck if you pressed them (specifically the D-pad). Needless to say, the quality control on this item is extremely hit or miss.
So exited to get this in the mail! Some reviewers commented on some they called it not quite screentearing, but it was with game boy color games and looked like a sort of flickering when they showed it. Is it bothering you? I'm not very picky and a sucker for small devices so I'm pretty sure I will love this no matter. I'm exited this has nes games too becauae I have fallen in love with mapping and has a wide range of nes rpgs to go through. Currently playing Wizardry on my gpdcd plus. Which is great, but this thing is so little it will be very easy to hold while also holding the mapping board :D Thanks for reviewing. Great as always. Can't wait for mine to ship!
I know exactly how you mean about wanting a system i couldn't have when i was young. However when i was younger it wasn't that my parents couldn't afford it. It was the fact that it didn't exist yet. When i was young and we went on car trips, i always used to read comic books and read them over and over until i got really bored. However i always imagined if i could have a portable system, like the gameboy that played Playstation games. Finally in 2005 i got that system with the launch of the PSP. Now i own 5 PSPs and a PS Vita.
I grew up obsessed with the amount of games I could play on an emulator (particularly the Nintendo ones), because the Gameboy, SNES, N64, etc from where I live costed 10x more expensive than what the US price has to offer. The only nostalgia console I've ever had was an NES knock-off from China.
This is a very cool, little system. I didn’t know there was a newer version. Thanks for sharing. What line of figures do you have on display in the display case in the background on the viewer’s left side?
My mom got my for my birthday a Gameboy journal, it's a little bigger then a game boy but it has one of those 3d things showing Mario in Super Mario land jumping ever one of the lions fireballs. I love it, it's from Paladone if you can find it let. Update, I'm joining your Discord and posting a pic of it there.
I got my Bittboy a few day ago and totally am in love with it. Playing GB game on this thing is such a blast sine the B&W screen looks so much better than the shitty green&black of the original GB. Yeah, the emulation og GBC isn't perfect. The tearing is very noticeable but after playing for awhile I got used to it, I guess.
Does anyone know what Pokémon game was in the background of this video? And also is there any way to get or add L and R shoulder buttons on that thing?
So now im planning to get my first gameboy clone since i already have a psp and ps vita (both hacked) but im looking for a pocket device easy to carry for short bursts of gameplays. What would you recommend? Bittboy 2 or Retromini?
I asked in his live stream recently, he said he wasn't interested in the build it yourself idea and already has so many options with the gpd devices and psp. but I'm stoked for my gameshell to arrive in a few weeks, it's all modular so the build it yourself thing shouldn't scare anyone, I saw an old review saying you needed to know command line to add roms and emulators but I think it's gotten easier since then, I hope at least. I think an android device or psp or something would probably handle newer roms and emulators better, but if I can play plasystation 1 games halfway decent I'll be happy. It looks like it'll be an awesome device. ETA Prime has some good videos on it, though his most recent video is just comparing the kick starter version to the newer upgraded version and he sounds critical that adding 512mb of ram won't do much, but he seemed to love the kickstarter version.
I wasn't around during time of the original Gameboy, but damn I must be from that one 3rd world country where these things were everywhere, the only reason I never had any Gameboy or any Nintendo console growing was because I just was never into Nintendo, until now that is. Now I'm starting to collect all these things I missed out on.
Do I know? Hell. I'm from Brazil too, I know it all too well. It wasn't just a matter of being able to afford it in my case, they didn't even sell the thing in my town. You'd have to travel to Ourinhos to get it, and that means going through a toll booth cause it's a different state, unless you were sneaky and went through this roundabout way that included a wooden bridge that looked like it could break if you sneezed at it. Not to mention, if we ever actually bought a Gameboy and brought it back home, I'd better walk around with a damn brick in my backpack because if people tried to steal my dirty shoes as a kid, the Gameboy wouldn't last a day. So yeah man. I think I know 😂
Good review for this device, but they can make a special version that can emulate way more handhelds and systems: Nintendo: gameboy, gameboy color, gameboy advance, nes, snes, and N64 Sega: master system, game gear, genesis (including 32x and cd), and nomad Other: Neo Geo pocket and color, all wonderswan, all nec turbographx, and more of those low file size systems up to the early 3D like N64 kind of generation and handhelds up to ds generation.
Hope they make a new one this year with gba emulator (or go the linux way for more emulators) and double the battery size. A 2000 mAh battery doesn't cost that much more, isn't bigger and would have 3 times the runtime. Also some emulators don't run perfectly (yet), I don't know if the screentearing is based on the emulator or just the screen.
Have you tried the Harry Potter RPGs (GBC) on the BittBoy? I found these to be troublesome when emulated on a handheld device. Always giving me some graphical glitches. Sound, speed etc. are fine though. (My M3 card is using Goomba 2.0 to do it, btw., might even be the Goomba GBC beta, can't really remember, tbh.)
Hey Izzy, could you go more in depth about your modded Game Boy and what exactly it does that a normal Game Boy can't do? Or is it just a mod for a back light?
I just wish they could've added 4 small buttons on the back for shoulder buttons so that you're not limited to basic NES or gameboy games, just can't justify the cost of it vs my phone or even a psp go that can do more for less(well in the case of my phone maybe not LESS but that has so much more utility)
I can settle for black bars for GB and GBC, since on modern screens its too stretched. GBA, on the other hand, has to be stretched, no questions. I am from Pakistan and I too am just starting to get my hands on games and consoles.
Why is your audio always low quality and sound like you are in a well when you address the camera? I see a nice mic right behind you, is it broken or something?
Good question. This is my Canon G7X, which is my vlogging camera. The mic on it is terrible whenever I use it in my studio; I blame the acoustics (since it isn't THIS bad when I'm actually out and about vlogging). Normally I use a Canon 70D for my in-studio videos, which is connected to a Video Mic Pro by Rode, but I left both of those at my girlfriend's house when I drove back to Calgary for the week. The mic you see back there is a Blue Yeti, which I have no way to connect to the G7X because unfortunately it lacks mic input. And because of how it's set up in my editing rig, it's not easy to move it to the other side of the office every time I shoot a video. Keep in mind I shoot 2-3 videos a day, so I just don't wanna stress the mic connections by constantly moving this thing back and forth (I need the mic by the computer whenever I edit because I often screw up lines and need to add voice over in post). Besides, I don't have a stand for it, and I don't wanna be messing around with the mic stand clamp either. It's just not worth the hassle. It'd make for much better audio, yeah, but I find that anything that hinders my productivity ends up being a negative down the road. Plus, I'm getting my 70D back tomorrow. I use that Blue Yeti for my podcast, in case you're wondering.
I am team fullscreen. Black bars vertically and horizontally shown really bother me. That's why I can't stand letterbox outside movie theaters. It's wasting screen space that can be used for more either more of the game, more of the movie, or more of the show you could be looking at.
I'm really liking my bittboy so far... BUT gbc and gb roms run like trash on this thing... NES runs flawlessly though. That being said, I feel like it's worth the $40
Yeah I love this thing, it brings me back to my childhood of playing gameboy and nes, plus getting to try some games I've never played. I was worried by retro futures video where the emulation looked terrible, but he was using pal roms on an ntsc device. a green filter would've been cool but I also got a gameboy pocket where it was black and white so this is more like that. I also did a lot of emulation growing up so I prefer the stretched out full screen to black bars. you gotta do you, but you responded to me in your live stream about not being interested in the clockwork pi gameshell because of building it yourself and you already having plenty of options, but it's just putting together a couple simple modules and it looks like it will be an incredible emulation machine, obviously not as good as a psp or an android device, but I preordered mine and it'll be here in a few weeks, I can't wait, until then the bitboy has been a lot of fun to play with.
I was hoping for the entire GameBoy family on this thing. That is really a deal breaker for me. I have a console that takes actual carts, does GB, GBC, and GBA. But it only played GBA natively and emulates the others. And the GBC emulation is hit or miss.
Yeah the BittBoy is awesome but you know what would be EVEN BETTER?

how does it handle things like clock/day/night in pokemon?
The deal broke for me at the lack of proper pixel perfect and screen tearing, if it didn't have that, I would totally love it
Not bad for $50, but I wish it had a cartridge slot like the GB Boy Colour. Which would you say has the better d-pad though?
Retrostone cost 140 dollar
Gameboy Pi cost 300 dollar
Gameboy Zero cost about 300 dollar
@@CloudOmegaVII thanks for the info but anything over $100 for a GB clone console is too rich for my blood
The flipped A and B button orientation ruins this for me
You can’t remap them ?
I play most of my older games on the VC on 3DS and I just can’t stand how blurry it is when it’s full screen.
It’s a backlight, a bivert chip, and some voltage mod which allows me to run flashcarts on it (though I don’t have one yet).
why to small?
I'm sure my parents could've afforded any console I wanted but they thought video games would turn my brain to mush
I just wish they could've added 4 small buttons on the back for shoulder buttons so that you're not limited to basic
NES or gameboy games, just can't justify the cost of it vs my phone or even a psp go that can do more for less(well in the case of my phone maybe not LESS but that has so much more utility)
Eh, it not supporting native saves is a deal breaker for me. But still a neat device overall
😂 that face expression on the thumbnail
I prefer the ones in the switch multiplayer games video.
Have you heard of the TinyPi Pro?
Do the new bittboy have rtc for games like harvest moon or pokemon?
Patched roms is not 100% experience
Does it save
Hi. Great reviews. After watching your review I'm after ordering a new bittboy v2. Can you please recommend a GBA emulator for the PSP. Thanks.
Does it have cheat code support?
I am team fullscreen. Black bars vertically and horizontally shown really bother me. That's why I can't stand letterbox outside movie theaters. It's wasting screen space that can be used for more either more of the game, more of the movie, or more of the show you could be looking at.
is there a good handheld like this that does have snes/gbc /gba?
I dont know why but I love watching your videos Hello from Venezuela
Does it support the clock in pokemon gold?
They should increase the screen size and include SNES too..
can't find any roms that'll work :( I dragged them on my SD card and it won't read any games!!
How do you download games on it?
Does it support firmware upgrade? Will it be any?
I'm really liking my bittboy so far... BUT gbc and gb roms run like trash on this thing... NES runs flawlessly though. That being said, I feel like it's worth the $40
It's already in the process of being hacked so will be better soon.
I don't think you really played anything. It's a nice object, but controls are so bad, so cheap.
Come to Brazi... wait...
we have the same blanket
Review the bitboy v2?
Caramba não sabia que era brasileiro. Terceiro vídeo que to vendo no seu canal e to curtindo!
Does anyone know a good site to get ROMs for these or a Retro Pi?
Agree, izzy. As I also was born from third world country and living in that country. I'm from indonesia.
Shin Juda Tang i am also from a third world banana republic, the netherlands
I was hoping for the entire GameBoy family on this thing. That is really a deal breaker for me. I have a console that takes actual carts, does GB, GBC, and GBA. But it only played GBA natively and emulates the others. And the GBC emulation is hit or miss.
