Awesome. Not overdone. Outstanding guitar work while singing. Dylan himself was not singing and playing simultaneously in the studio when this track was recorded. This holds true for all his studio albums. He always has an excellent player playing guitar (Mike Bloomfield, Robbie Robertson, Kevin Odegard, Mark Knopfler, etc).
Check out the version on "Postcards from the Hanging" by the Grateful Dead. My favorite version, although this is tied, really- totally different sound/vibe, but both are tops. Hope you enjoy both as much as I do.
Does anyone know the tuning? It appears to be double drop D (D-A-D-G-B-D) but doesn't seem to work for me. I'll keep working but hope someone knows for sure. He may have it tuned down a half step as well. He uses a lot of different tunings, and is a very accomplished guitarist especially on the 12 string.
Fabulous licks! Best version ive ever heard
One of the best songwriters on the planet singing a song of one of the best songwriters on the planet,.
Thanks James for a masterful rendition of a masterpiece. ☮️
I love James McMurtry. I great American singer/songwriter.
You nailed it James! I love it!

My favourite song desolation row nicely done thank you
Nice one 👍
Best cover ever. Better than my own. A poet like McMurtry really gets the rhythm and meter of Dylan. Not everybody can do that.
great! I've only heard Bob sing this.

A very worthy rendition of an amazing song.
First time hearing you. Great stuff, & thank you, sir.
nice cover!!
First time I ever heard T.S. Elliot, and Ezra Pound’s name in a song… but it sure did fit… great tune…
Oh James, I so relate to you and your special art. Much Love to You. ❤️
Such a sleeve of imagery. Sung by another potent songwriter. Shit I'm going break out the wax paper and my comb and try to catch up. Thank you.
What does that mean, re: wax paper & comb?
@@ResearchSoundLab So it's research? Wax paper over comb. Like a Harmonica it gives a humming sound. Kid stuff. Cheers.
@@gregorysullivan7175 Thanks for the answer; however, you're really condescending. That's my experience with you.
@@ResearchSoundLab Oh my sir. You mistake dry for condescending but if I came across insensitive. My apologies.
great job!!! thank you for caring.
How does anyone remember all those lyrics?
Start with Visions of Johanna, then Hard Rain´s gonna fall, after that it get´s easier ;)

It is, but tuned 3 steps lower.
@@dilpratapsingh6363 thanks, that seems to work.
Well done 😊
Love this - tasteful and accurate, with respect for the original (what's the guitar tuning James?)
bravo
Ever try 12 string down 2 and 1/2 steps? B E A D F# B
Bob’s not bad either… ❤️❤️❤️
Amazing
