  • A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of meeting with winemaker Vusi Dalicuba and Farm Manger Christain at Vergenoegd Löw wine estate in South Africa.
Vusi is the winemaker for Vergenoegd Löw's his goal is to be one of “the best winemaker’s in South Africa and the world.”He is well on his way as his passion for wine in every aspect from beginning to end shines though.
He joined Vergenoegd Löw estate in 2021 and has already been a pivotal part of its growth. Vusi was originally recommended for the role by Abrie Beeslaar at Kanonkop (epic recommendation) and during his one day trail interview and winemaker for a day Vusi quickly impressed the team with his hard work and attention to detail.
He describes himself as a "chemist" when it comes to winemaking. While spending the day with Vusi's I learned his favorite part of the job is seeing the plants grow and tasting the final product. He treats all his wines equally but notes that the red wines and chardonnay are particularly special due to the farm's unique soil.
I sat down with Vusi and all talked things wine and soil.
During my visit I took a tour with the farm manager Christiaan
It was amazing to see the pockets of limestone on the property. I witnessed first hande Vergenoegd Löw dedication to sustainable and regenerative farming through pest control alternatives like ducks and cattle.
After a tour of the vineyard, We toured the guest accommodations. The rooms were beautiful. So much so that they reignited a wine retreat project goal of mine. Announcement coming soon.
All in all the visit to Vergenoegd was educational, warm and inviting. Fromthe award wining Best Sommelier George who greeted us on arrival to the farm manager Christain who personally showed us around and of course Vusi, the team is as beautiful as the property itself
