To add some insight on what was/ is going on in Detroit, the front office is a mess, there were too many cooks in the kitchen. Troy was scapegoated and didn't really have much power in Detroit. While he did make some questionable moves, he was routinely undermined and overridden by the owner tom gores (who is the real culprit behind Detroit being so terrible over the last 15 years) and former agent turned consultant Arn tellum and his son who had way to much influence and say over roster decisions. Troy didn't want want Monty Williams, the owner tom gores did. Troy wanted Kevin ollie, also wanted to draft Haliburton, but the organization had already decided to draft killan Hayes prior to troy getting hired. Troy even tried to trade him during the offseason, but Monty liked him and wanted to keep him, even playing him over Jaden Ivey. by all-star break Kilian's value plummeted and had to be waived for nothing in return. And lastly he wasn't fired, the new POBO Langdon essentially offered to keep him around as a scout but he declined and is now a consultant for the wizards
The more I researched the more I realized it was the owner who was really the one who wanted Monty Morris. Troy should have stood up for himself though.
There's more to the Porzingis trade, he had a player option and was effectively a free agent so the Wizards had no leverage. The Celtics also did trade away the 35th pick which has similar value to a late first because of contractual flexibility. Then the Grizzlies bought Marcus from the Celtics for a late first and a mid first.
It's also worth noting how low KP's value was. Analysts were divided over how "real" what he did in Washington was considering how he played in Dallas. (It was real.) And more importantly the guy is never healthy so no one was lining up to give away real stuff to extend KP on a contract that had a high likelihood of ending badly. And he did only play 57 games and missed 12 of 19 playoff games. (It just didn't matter because Boston got Jrue for the perpetually injured Rob Williams and Malcom Brogdon.)
@@michaelahurt He had clearly improved a lot since Dallas and was recognised as a borderline all star level talent in the East. I think it could be interesting to make a video about why coaches/gms fall off. For example, pat riley was once regarded as “the godfather” of general managers but lately he will refuse to make moves that are risky in order to help his team win
I remember that Primo incident a while back. It's definitely one of the more bizarre things to happen in the NBA, that's probably a video idea you could do.

And “The Two J’s” weren’t exactly screaming their heads off, yelling for him to pass them the ball 🤷🏽♂️
Yeah Stevens has been doing a heck of a job. Getting White was not the most obvious move to make but has sure turned out to be very important in leading to a championship. And his handling of Udoka took the moral wherewithal to recognize what should be done, and some real cojones to actually do it. Also yes, keeping/promoting Mazzula has proven to be the right move, and giving up Smart to get KP was pretty bold but also a good one. And again yes yes, getting Jrue while having to give up good but not great sentimental players helped win a chip. Good analysis of lake show, that definitely seems like a good way of summing up how they operate, particularly in contrast to Celts/Stevens. SGA for Tatum would really be another “what the wow?!” move to make as far as giving up your superstar top draft pick that you hand selected and just helped you win a title, but yeah Stevens would probably (ruthlessly) do it. Yikeskis with that Monty situation. Going from NOT wanting to be there from the start, to paying him the most amount of money in the league to coach the team to the worst record. And now Wizards bringing Weaver on board and get his decision making skills just seems to make perfect sense, good luck with all that guys 👍. Thanks Mr J Burzzy, bringin that hoopy goodness once again.
As a Boston fan would you trade Tatum for SGA? I noticed a lot of Celtics fans saying this was blasphemous. I still think Stevens would do it even if it's just a minor upgrade. Apparently I was wrong about Weaver, he actually didn't want Monty as coach. It doesn't make sense to me though because why would Gores fire Weaver if hiring Monty was his idea? Bad business going on out in the D. Glad you're still digging the goodness, player!
@@whatslaps me too tbh, we have finally aquired some decent shooters. Got Tobi, Malik Beasley, THJ and resigned Fontecchio. All are on eithe 1 year or 2 year deals which can easily be flipped for assets, and all of those people are betters shooters than what we had. Seems like Troy never really knew what he wanted from this basketball team, whereas Langdon said what he wants for this team going forward on his introductory press, and looks forward to doing that.
lets not just glaze over the fact that Mazzulla was handed a team that just went to the Finals. All he had to do was not mess it up, and he kind of did in year 1, going down 3-0 against an 8 seed in the ECF.
My Charlotte Hornets are starting to head in the right direction in terms of the front office. In the NBA, I feel like the front office is the moat important part of the team. They bring in the talent that ultimately gives the team a chance to eventually win it all.
According to GMs there’s no such thing as a bad GM. If it was a bad personnel decision it’s always because of ownership. And if it was a brilliant move it’s because the GM is a genius.
the problem with the lakers last couple years has been not keeping really good players like caruso kcp kuzma monk dwight brook lopez etc. Those moves have hurt way more than paying lebron and AD
im gonna be honest, i think the reason that the celtics got jrue for so little was because joe cronin of the blazers was doing his absolute best to screw over the heat for all of the dame trade nonsense. i think that’s why dame ended up in milwaukee too, as a way to screw over miami. he could have been dealt to other contenders, but the blazers front office picked teams that had rivalries with miami as a way to say “fuck you”

Good shit brotha! Need some Sam Presti love. Dude consistently hits (except when he doesn't!) Also have you considered doin merch?
Yeah, I gotta figure out my set up. I want to make it affordable, but that can end up turning my apartment into a fulfillment center.
Never saw that video of Monty... wow that was hard to watch. Can't imagine what the owner and GM were thinking
If someone doesn't want to do something, don't beg them.
2:19 my mans is absolutely GOATED for fuckin' wit Coldplay's Gravity. Iykyk
I'll come clean. I just googled "break up gif". I'll peep the video though
@@whatslaps ohhh, damn first time hearing it I'm kinda envious.
Troy Weaver gives me PTSD as a pistons fan. Langdon did more in a month than Weaver did in 4 years.
I'm hype for the Pistons future.
😂😂😂 keep your Jason tutum, we love our SGA , tutum < sGa
Be nice
definitely make another one
I will.
Great video but unnecessary shot at my Wizards broski 😓
sorry for the stray, man.
lets not just glaze over the fact that Mazzulla was handed a team that just went to the Finals. All he had to do was not mess it up, and he kind of did in year 1, going down 3-0 against an 8 seed in the ECF.
Yeah, but he's still good.
My Charlotte Hornets are starting to head in the right direction in terms of the front office. In the NBA, I feel like the front office is the moat important part of the team. They bring in the talent that ultimately gives the team a chance to eventually win it all.
that's true. success starts at the top.
According to GMs there’s no such thing as a bad GM. If it was a bad personnel decision it’s always because of ownership. And if it was a brilliant move it’s because the GM is a genius.
failure is a bastard.
You are severely underrated 🙏🏾
Can't wait to be overrated and fall off
Please do a feature on Steve Kerr’s stint as Suns GM 🙏
I'd have to figure out how to shoehorn it in to a large topic.
The intros are always bangin
can't stop bangin. it's in my blood.
Could u do a "your prediction vdo", who gonna win/be in the finals, for the next year, I'm rooting for Golden State, especially "B Podz"
I do that type of content on this channel @whatshorts stuff with less shelf life. B Podz rules best charge taker in the league.
Sorry im late. Solid vid as always 🙌🏾
I was waiting
@@whatslaps inflation got me running out of corn dogs 😩 about to start a gofundme
the problem with the lakers last couple years has been not keeping really good players like caruso kcp kuzma monk dwight brook lopez etc. Those moves have hurt way more than paying lebron and AD
I miss kcp and Caruso.
Great video but you forgot to mention arguable the best GM Leon Rose
how could I forget?!
@@whatslaps my bad typo
talk about Masai and Bobby or I will protest in front of a chick fil a
I'll see you out there
0:00 fire intro bro
short and spicy
I would love to hear your opinion on The last year of Bob Myers as a GM
I'd have to do some research.
Our to-do list is getting longer. Now I have to talk to a friend about basketball 😅
if you only do one, be good to your mothers.
im gonna be honest, i think the reason that the celtics got jrue for so little was because joe cronin of the blazers was doing his absolute best to screw over the heat for all of the dame trade nonsense. i think that’s why dame ended up in milwaukee too, as a way to screw over miami. he could have been dealt to other contenders, but the blazers front office picked teams that had rivalries with miami as a way to say “fuck you”
that's awesome and if you think about those deals it definitely checks out.
I though that the "fuck you" was for Lillard, not the Heat
@@felixmartinez1100 Cronin killed two birds with one stone. Both moves screwed over both Dame _and_ Miami
next video talk about taylor jenkins please im grizly fan also great video keep it up
I'll try to work it in.
love the content man! for the future id love to hear your opinion on sam presti (okc fan lol) also tim connelly is a great gm id love to hear more people talk about
I touched on Connelly recently. I forget which video it was though.
U gotta talk about the Bulls in one of these GM videos. I don’t think the team gets criticized enough by people outside the bulls fandom.
You want me to go all the way back to Jerry Krause?
@@whatslaps pretty much 😰 would be one of the worst ran teams in the NBA had they not had the 1st round picks to draft Jordan or Drose
While Jrue did get tourched against Jimmy( its a healthy Playoffs Jimmy Bulter) every team in title contention wanted to get Jrue from portland after the Dame trade was official they just swooped in and gave two frs to a obivous rebuilding team with 2 quality role players who they thought they could deal by tradedeadline if healthy. AND Joe Cronin for sure dealt him to the Heats rival bc of the Dame situation.
exactly. I think Portland over valued Brogdon and timelord.
@@whatslaps For sure I really dont like their front office Heat biases aside.
hey nice vid! ty!! may you comment about raptor's gm?
I have an older video about GMs where I talk about Masai
Surprised the title of the video isn’t “How to spot a BILLY KING in the NBA”
the sequel
i love this channel.
the channel loves you back.
It's just a matter of time before your channel is 1m+ subs
that's too many, I don't there that many hoopheads on YT
Do you make tiktoks too? I feel like your editing style could blow up there maybe even faster than UA-cam.
yup ig and tiktok.
Can you do a video on your NBA hot takes? I feel like you've got some good ones festering away.
might be good content for my other channel @whatshorts . also what makes a take hot?
@@whatslaps for me it's something polarizing or even counter intuitive but has good merit to make it a debatable topic.
