      I completely disagree with you. It's all about hard tricks. Nowadays there's no dancing interpretation. It's just a bunch of muscle chicks doing super hard tricks, and that is not what gymnastics is supposed to be. A lot of skills performed back then are now banned for safety reasons. Elena Mukhina, a Soviet gymnast, is one of those reasons. In 1979, she broke her leg and her coach and team doctors rushed her recovery, removing her cast early. They pressured her keep practicing the Thomas salto, despite her complaints of minor injuries from it.
    Two weeks before the 1980 Moscow Olympics, she was practicing the pass and landed on her chin, snapping her spine, rendering her quadriplegic. Her coach and team doctors then blamed her for "attempting a skill she wasn't ready for". She said that her first thought when lying on the floor with a broken neck was "thank god I'm not going to the Olympics".
    She died in 2006 from complications from quadriplegia. So, yeah, the 'new' gymnastics isn't as flashy, but it's a lot more safe.

Is that making the "old way" forbidden, or is it prioritizing safety? Yeah the old way can go F itself. It sucked.

    The old forms are more body strength rather than speed. Trained to do tougher but slower moves that force the body to spring and press useing ALL of the body, such as abs a lot more.
    The new styles seem a lot of fast, quick and accelerated. They seem to be more trained in speed and dexterity than raw power. They also rend to use a lot more of there legs and arms rather than mid section as the older generations used. They also amped up spinning and rwirling rapidly in a lot more sets. SPIN TO WIN! More showy and spectacular, flare rather than poise.

    I know that the old gymnastic looks impressive af (and it is/was!) but I am glad that they made all those changes for the safety of the athletes in the last years. Remember that most of the old athletes were still kids when they did all the stuff and they were used as propaganda tools back then to show off how strong people of their country are... Many (not particularly the people shown here in the video) suffered and STILL suffer from health issues because of the immense stress they had to put their body through (not even talking about the mental issues because of the physical and mentally abuse), some of the women were never able to get pregnant after their career ended. Today's gymnastic is still not a walk in the park and I truly admire what the athletes manages to accomplish with their training. And yes, there is still many things going wrong in modern sports. But the old gymnastic definitely didn't care for there athletes at all.

      @@kaid2025 there is still grace, balance, dance elements, smiling, smooth transitions between moves, that are all graded on an international level. To say the Grace has been abandoned isn’t true. The reason they don’t have transitions between bars like that is because they are farther apart than they were, so you physically can’t, but there are other requirements for fluidity and Grace that are graded within the execution score. It’s not all power, but maintaining that strength and power and containing it in a controlled and graceful way

    • @kaid2025
      @kaid2025 Рік тому +2

      @@Jellybeansatdusk I completely agree that there is still grace and smooth transitions within modern gymnastics, and I never said that those tenets have been abandoned. They will always be there. I just find that they present differently now. Simone Biles has a grace more like a race horse to me. It is beautiful to see the lines of her body moving as her muscles contract and release. Her grace comes from how powerful she clearly is. Many of the earlier gymnasts in comparison have a different kind of fluidity, almost as though they are water being poured. I know there is still power and strength there, but it presents differently. If I'm continuing the animal comparisons, they seem more like snakes, where you are seeing more of the whole thing moving. I was wrong to say that "much of the grace has left," though I think to an eye that does not care about the progression of the sport, they would think similarly. I used the wrong words to convey my message.

Competitive gymnastics is more advanced than things like tumbling which is what you mainly saw in new ‘gymnastics’ that isn’t actually gymnastics, that is only one of the elements that gymnasts do. In girls gymnastics there are 4 events that you have to compete: vault, bars, beam, and floor. And boys have 6. In each event there are many elements and advance gymnasts go to the gym every day and practice each event for hours. What people are doing today is way more advanced and insane. Huh???? Look at the statistics of gymnastics injury, then vs. now. It was literally unregulated, and rules had to be put in place to protect gymnasts from dangeous (and deadly!) combinations. It has happened in almost every performing sport (i.e. figure skating). Soooo not sure how its "Gen Z" when they were only stating the fact that old gymnastics were dangerous. Hell, gymnastics NOW is dangerous. Deaths include Melanie Coleman in 2019, Michelle Maintland in 2009, Julissa Gomez in 1988. And cases of paralysis including Elena Mukhina in 1980, Adriana Duffy in 1989, Sang Lan in 1998, and honorable mentions of Jacoby Miles, Samantha Cerio, and countless others left paraplegic or quadriplegic. Let's not forget to also mention that Gen Z was barely even a thought when these regulations began to be implemented in the late 80s. But you know, Gen Z is just SOOOOOOOO soft and triggered. 🤪🤪🤡 @chisomudeze7706

Even in today's gymnastics, it's so beautiful and graceful the way these athletes can contour, flip, lift, etc. their bodies in ways most humans can't even dream about doing. It definitely takes a lot of training, endurance, strength, and precise precision to calculate and execute these moves flawlessly. Kudos to all the gymnasts old and new. They banned them because they are too dangerous, and have had a history of debilitating injuries. Some people can do them safely, but they are just too dangerous and they have had people be severly injured multiple times trying to compete a a certain skill. • @dmr11235

    Gymnasts now are far and away better than they have ever been, but the reason you don’t see some of the moves from the 70s and 80s today (even though gymnasts today can pull off on average much more technically difficult skills) is that many of them have been banned or removed from the code of points. Olga Korbut’s dead loop, also called the Korbut, carried severe risk of injury, with a minor error posing a risk of paralysis or death due to head or spinal injuries. Oddly enough, that wasn’t even the main reason that the move was banned-there are plenty of dangerous skills in current gymnasts’ repertoires. Actually it was banned because standing on the bar disrupts the flow of the routine, so the skill was removed for stylistic reasons.
    The vault is probably the skill that has advanced the most over the past few decades, with some of the most common vaults from the 70s like the Yamashita 1/2 no longer even being competitive at the junior level. You can look up the Yamashita 1/2 in comparison to, say, a double-twisting Yurchenko or a Produnova for reference

    Je trouve que l'ancienne pratique était plus saine et fluide, on sent que c'est plus "détendu", c'est agréable a voir

      The thing is they didn't compare the same routines. Bars vs tumbling, of course you'll get different results. Also at least two of the "new" clips were circus performances, where the goal is to "wow" the audience, not perfecting skill for judges. And it's skewing the opinion of the viewer.
      As for health, (this is more behind the scenes) but gymnastics always had super strict weight and size regulations leading to horrific eating disorders, body dysmorphia and other issues. Now while it's still bad, a lot of coaches are being much healthier and don't shame girls for their bodies.
