I am a retired Architect who dealt with condition assessment and restoration of historic structures for 40 years. I love your program and videos!! Fantastic! Thanks for preserving our architectural heritage!!!
Fantastic job explaining the architectural and engineering concepts in ways that regular folks, who are not in the industry, can understand! I’m a political science professor with no experience-but everything you explained just made perfect sense!
Sometimes it's good to know stuff even if you can't do it yourself. It can come in handy if you need to have work done at your own home and need to understand if the contractor is giving you good information or not.
I think it will be a great entertaining space. I'm planning on putting ADA compliant bathrooms behind the garage so that it can be a very usable space someday.
This was so fascinating for me! I sincerely had no idea how complex and yet simple a lintle, if I'm spelling it right, really was! Thank you for explaining.
Glad it was helpful! People do crazy things to buildings because they don't take the time to understand the impact on the structure. This garage was in a very dangerous condition. We are just finishing up some repairs on another side.
Glad it was helpful! It's a little dry but this house has about 25 or so windows that have lintel problems so it's a big part of the work that will be going on.
@@leaguekempnerhouse I'm a bit addicted to renovation videos so I was immediately drawn to your channel, especially since yours is a renovation project so close to home. What makes your videos unique, apart from the project itself, of course, is the depth of your technical explanations. That's rare, refreshing, and fascinating!
I just re-watched this video and enjoyed it even more than the first viewing. I know there are a lot of projects going on for you, but could you give us an update on this one? Have the lintels come in and the window put in? Love your restoration ethics.
I'm glad you enjoyed it. There is an update posted, video S1.17. It was a pretty big undertaking, especially since it is separate from the house, but it needed to be done.
Perhaps it's a little irritating being required to restore an obviously non original structure with no true meaningful design and basically nothing left of it? Definitely tenacity on your part to deal with these major extra issues to save the main architectural treasure.
It wasn't original but it is 110 years old. We are going to dress it up and use it as outdoor entertaining space. I think it will be nice when finished and it does block the view of the apartments next door. Right now it just tends to get filled with trash.

Wow, thank you! If you notice anything I'm doing wrong, or something I've overlooked, please let me know!

Thanks, coming from someone who teaches, that means a lot. We like to dig into the details in our videos.
I learn so much watching these videos! Too bad I'm pretty inept at this type of work and can't put it into practice.

Ok. I'm excited about what this could be one day. Maybe a caretaker's cottage or something fabulous for the garden.

Awesome video Janie! Although I am familiar with these structural techniques, it was very enjoyable! Well done. Mike
Thank you very much!

@@leaguekempnerhouse I look forward to watching!
Thank you for the lesson❤
You're welcome 😊
That was incredibly informative. Thanks for explaining that with such clarity!
