I have a question is it possible to use an old macbook for xcode? Because they say you need to be on the latest version OS for you to be able to code xcode and use it to send your app to the app store. Because xcode does not run on older systems.
I agree that downloading it from the developer site is much faster. However keeping it updated will be a more manual process rather then the app store just keeping it updated
I download from the website (2nd way). Using this I can install the app multiple times if I wipe my machine or use another one. Also I can install more than one Xcode version. The third way was unnecessarily complicated.
Something I found, if you hover your mouse over the circle inside of the AppStore you’ll get to see the current download MB/s (still can’t see a time though)
I womder if Xcode download on multiple computers is one of the things that is helped by Content Caching. / After a brew install, a "rehash" may work instead of Terminal relaunch.
Great video!!! I need help from you Sir. I updated my MacBook Pro 2017 OS from Monterey to Ventura (now on 13.1) which required me to update my xCode to xCode 14 (now on 14.2) as well. However since I made the update to xCode 14.xx, my pc get stocked and restart after a while of launching the xCode 14. I cannot build iOS app anymore. Please any solution to this issue? Thanks
Hi I'm on M1 BigSur 11.7.1, I'm not a fan of the Sequoia, it's first time I wanted to install xcode, but I really hate to update my os just for 1 app, some one said I can still get old version apple developer site, I don't really know what's latest compatible version like google will say 13.1, the question is this xcode will still let me upload aps to appstore? And if you point me in the right direction were to download it I can't see it on apple developer site it shows me xcode16
I'm so frustrated by now, I'm just trying to learn swift and I cant even use the xcode program on my late 2015 macbook pro. i dont understand what you are doing at all....
I went through the same thing with my MacBook Pro from 2016. I had to get a MacBook Air with intel 5 which is from 2019 because it just wouldn’t run smoothly because the Xcode was so advanced from my MacBook Pro. It was night and day when I switched. Now I have a MacBook Air with the M2 Chip now it’s 100x better than the intel based MacBook Air. Just kick that money out if you are serious about programming
I really appreciate your effort to mention this tool here, this is much better than appstore or terminal. Do you have like a list of similar amazing tools for mac
When downloading the Xcode update from the App Store, it usually downloads something, tries to install it, and then starts downloading something else again. I know that it takes at least an hour to install on my Mac because it has an 8th gen Intel processor and the internet is 30 Mbps down.
Hi Alex! Could you help me out? I downloaded Xcode from the dev page but when I go to the App Store it doesn't recognise it, I mean I have to download it again from the App Store.
Ok you sold me, I'll be doing this on my new M2 Max MBP coming in a week or so. Also you can watch the progress of the app store install via the console, just fyi.
Hi Alex , it’s unrelated , anyhow could you give your opinion about using open core legacy Monterey on iMac with using on this software Apple register account , I mean would it be different if I’d open another account for it and it would be used as family sharing , just if you could just share your opinion about it the final call would be definitely on my , thanks
Alex, great thing you're doing right there, thank you fot that. I have a 16" M1 Pro machine with 32 GB of ram and I love it, ....while its on Monterey. Ventura has a bunch of problems related to graphics, there are some weird blur effects in Launchpads edges or the animation when switching virtual desktops (spaces) is choppy as hell. Is 13.2 any better in this regard? because last time I was on 13.1 I couldn't use it one day and downgraded to Monterey. Ventura ruined this machine, I went to Apple Store and there's nothing wrong with the hardware.
While i thank you for this guide, i can't show this to my friend who is a casual first time user of Macs and don't want to see a command line, let alone executing a ruby script in vs code. He just bought a Mac from 2015 which has just updated into Mac OS 12 Monterey and he couldn't install xcode from app store. But still, thanks for the video!
Sounds like the optimal way next time is to get it once through the portal (through the browser or aria2 or whatever), Airdrop the XIP package to all macs that need the update, do xip, then cp the package to the Applications directory.
Thanks for this tip clearly will try this with my team! By the way am I the only one having this issue with the simulator struggling to restart in XCode 14.2? or It's a known issue?
@@AZisk First method (direct download from dev site via a browser). I usually do the download when I'm away from my desk so it doesn't interfere when I need to do something online..
Clearly in once case you're only competing with other developers downloading while with the other you're competing with everyone trying to download stuff from Apple.

Did you find a solution ?
@kareenasingh3264 No I didn't have a chance to try it

yes, true, but after the download you don’t see anything hovering

I think you can hit Cmd + R in update screen to refresh apps that need to update.

@@jereson it’s because Xcode is only comparable with macosSonoma which is not compatible with Mac2017

Hey Alex. Same issue here. Infinite upgrade time 😞

@@philb6570 I fixed it. I downgraded my macOs and installed the right version for that macOs. Thanks to ChatGPT lol
hi please wich last version of macbook pro dose support the last version of xcode
Not sure why my first comment got deleted, but there’s a tool called Xcodes which fixes pretty much all the annoyances around Xcode installations :)
thanks for the tip. if your comment has a link yt filters those out.
I know, there was no link in it…

I don’t do it through the App Store. It takes hours sometimes.
Hi Alex! Could you help me out? I downloaded Xcode from the dev page but when I go to the App Store it doesn't recognise it, I mean I have to download it again from the App Store.
You should have a clipboard manager, so you don't need to copy URLs and take them again :) If you use Alfred, it's included.
I was going to try it but Xcode is already updated so...

I need to become a developer first to download Xcode from the website?
I wonder do you hit the limitation for sharing the same Apple account on multiple machines?
there is a limitation?
Thanks for info
also if you delete old xcode before updating it seems to run faster from the app store than the in-place update
Homebrew?

But still, thanks for the video!
Command+R is a way to refresh the AppStore update
i download it on my phone hella fast like in 5mins and then i air drop it to my macbook its a 15 min process maybe most is 25
I needed this 2 days agooo
400mbits connection and over 45min through App store

need more this kind of videos of developer exprirence beacuse no creates this kinds video. and you should.
I go with downloading it from the developer site. It's faster and less issues.
do you use the second or third method?
@@AZisk First method (direct download from dev site via a browser). I usually do the download when I'm away from my desk so it doesn't interfere when I need to do something online..
But that day is not today - epic ending
Technically the App Store method is better, because it can happen automatically and without you even realizing (eg. during power nap)
xcode is insane. Not sure how Apple screwed up the updates.
Which i could have one of your Macs 😍
The fastest way seems to be just avoiding using damn Xcode at this point.
Sticking to the app store. Much easier.

Yeah. Downloading from the website is way faster. I use an app that helps me to avoid download stalling
I don't know, I let it do it at night...
thanks
bruh apple is so complicated
Good luck
VScode is better
Yep it's always a pain to update that stuff 🫣 ... thanks for ruby script...
ooh forgot to add the link! thanks for the reminder
