That handball was smashing too. Seriously that was a bad handball. Any ref would have given that.
I like De Ligt, as a defender but he needs to do better. His attempt to stop Gakpo leading up to the goal was so stupid, he didn’t need to slide and overcommit there. All Liverpool goals today were partially his mistakes, the first one was mainly Ugarte’s mistake but De Ligt’s recklessness sealed it.

    • @jan_07
      @jan_07 15 днів тому

@@Zagreus_07 yes, I also mentioned this in another post unrelated to yours. As people seemed to blame Amorim’s tactics, not realizing that the tactics actually work. What doesn’t work though are silly individual mistakes during corners and just plain garbage stuff:
      1. Mainoo leaving MacAllister unmarked so glaringly, resulting in a guilt-edge chance. MacAllister should have put that away. Mainoo and Onana got lucky here.
      2. De Ligt’s 2 mistakes.
      3. Onana leaving a ton of space in the near post that encourage the Liverpool winger to shoot and almost resulted with an acute angle goal or an accidental bounce from Onana’s “hail mary” save to the net.
I’m encouraged by the performance, but at the same time worried about these silly mistakes. Liverpool couldn’t get a sniff of goal against United till these mistakes happened. Mistakes like these will sap morale of the team. Imagine one of those players working their butt off and making the good decisions as the game progress, and then one of his teammates just makes silly mistakes to concede a goal. With United’s fragile confidence, that must be so energy-sapping to have to deal with teammates like that in the middle of a high profile game. And this explains why they crumble like paper when the opposition scores first in their last few games. The “good” players must be thinking “ah not this s* again, I’m done playing hard for this useless teammate” 😭

  • @jonboy2950

I think a lot of what Amorin has done up until now is to discover who his best players are to fit into his system. I think he does now know that this is his first team and can build his squad around this. I thought that the main reason for this result was that we were able to break up the Liverpool spells of pressure, as soon as Liverpool got momentum we were able to break this up which is something most teams who have come to Anfield this season have failed to do. Many teams have conceded goals purely as a result of continued Liverpool pressure.

Good analysis overall! 9:03 I think Gakpos goal was actually more on Urgarte than De Ligt. If you have a look at Urgartes positioning after he kicked the ball out and give away the ball, he immediately went to his default position... instead, he should've stayed since De Ligt was out of position. This would've stopped Gakpo from having that free space.

To a man there was confidence in the players in the man behind him. Players could take personal responsibility and go and win the ball, or carry the ball past two or more opponents. They were brilliantly led against Liverpool. Bruno was positioning the whole team at times, and he triggered team-wide pushes up the pitch. When you haven’t got audio of him, he can look like he’s complaining and the like, but more often than not he’s getting the team set. That was clear on Sunday.

That full week of rest worked wonders especially for Bruno and Dalot who has been the most used players. They just looked sharper and fitter. This is also where we're seeing the importance of rotations. Using your full squad gives the players an opportunity to rest and recharge something that Ten Hag failed to do during his time which lead to burn out and injuries.

I could be wrong and we could revert back to normal settings on Sunday, but this kind of feels like a 'click' moment where everyone is becoming more confident with the system. Maybe this is why United have been having issues because we lack confidence in the systems we're playing in because the manager couldn't sell it to the players. Amorim clearly is rabid about this system so I think it's getting through to the players whereas previous managers changed their systems when things went horribly wrong, Ten Hag did try to stick to his systems but I think they were too complex tactically to sell to the players.

Isn't this the first game since Nov that MU haven't played in the mid week before the WE game? They obviously looked coached and fresher, which highlights how shallow the squad is. Also there are a number of positions where the players in are 'make dos', such as the L-WB. Dalot had a good game, but then he was up against TAA, and he's not known for being that great a defender. I don't want to take away his good performance, but it's pretty clear that MU need depth and players in the right areas to compete properly in Amorim's system.

AJ can you do an analysis on hojlund and his movement..
: he mostly never makes the near post run across the defender when it's the default setting for crosses by Manu players
: he is always late to make a run when it's being crossed as his movement is not sharp in the box
: the instances he does make selfless runs he creates a lot of space
: the ball control...aaah the less said the better
:when players are nearer to him he has done better eg against Liverpool
: he loses the boll unnecessary while dribbling instead of passing and moving
:His frustration with shoot first team mates
:Does he score headers??I don't remember
:He has fantastic finishing when on a tear and different techniques to boot
How can he improve his game in amorins system

Amorim didn't get much wrong in this game and I actually voted him man of the match after giving him lowest score after the Newcastle game because his starting 11 was awful. Ugarte, Martinez, Amad and Bruno also did very well but the whole team was average or above which I guess was the first time this season. I know it was a fair result but a little disappointed Maguire didn't score in the last minute which could have been huge for the team in a game where Liverpool struggled to get as many big chances as they use to have (my son is a Liverpool fan and he was very disappointed which of course was great for once). Usually United will then be awful in the next match but I hope Amorim can keep them up for a while now especially in Europe which is probably the last chance for a cup this season.

Mainoo, Ugarte and Bruno were different class.
Tactically I'm happy Amorim allowed Bruno to play a bit deeper instead of always having him running the channels, we lose a lot from him from there.
This is something new i liked from Amorim, I wasn't convinced with him Tactically at first.
My one critique would be with Mainoo. He's such a great dribbler but I need him to limit the amount of dribbles at times coz he stalls play when we're on the move.
