Thanks bro! I bought a new SP 404 Mk2, I'm colombian but it's kind of tough to find some tutorials in Spanish. Even Roland and the information that they provide to handle this machine is only in English and is limited. However, your content is very practical because it goes to the point and I can help myself with the subtitles. Thanks again! and Keep it up!

Thanks this is great way to chop instrumentals or drum samples 👌 because selecting slices through the knobs is more tedious, that'll ease the workflow for me for sure. Many thanks for the tips

New to the SP404MK2 and I gotta be honest, for me, sampling on this is way easier than Maschine. I’ll probably get a lot of hate for that since I know a lot of people love the Maschine workflow. I just never got into sampling on it and when I did try to mess around with it, it seemed convoluted. Again just my personal perspective on it.
Super useful tutorial btw, thank you for the help!!

Helpful video! If i were to chop up a sample, should i set the bpm sync before chopping so that the sample chops fit into the drum pattern later? Or is there a better way?
I tried laying down a drum pattern but the second bar wouldn't record, because the first bar was overlapping it seems

Hey there, sorry for the slow reply but I’ve only just got my internet connection back on after moving. So… I don’t bpm sync before chopping because if you try it you’ll notice that once the slices have been created and assigned to the pads, they will go back to the original bpm. I tend to chop the sample and make it fit my drum bpm by the way I play the chops or if I wanted to use the sample at the same bpm as the drums, I’d pitch the sample first to match my drums before chopping. You would have to this with pitch though, not bpm sync. You could use time stretching if you want to maintain the samples pitch. As for the drum pattern issue, it sounds like you need to set your bar length before recording. You might only have 1 bar set as the pattern length hence it overlapping? 🙂

@@nervouscooks That makes a lot of sense. I will try a different style of chopping and see if that works out. Thanks chief!

@@nervouscooks If I turn off gate with a prepared sample of exactly ‘8’ bars at exactly ‘80’ bpm (same bpm as project), then i should be able to set up a TR-REC 8 bar pattern, with just the 8 bar sample placed on the first set of the first bar. The sample should stop exactly on time because it is matched to the bars and bpm. Am I wrong? I’ve tried and it doesn’t seem to work quite right

@@HeavyHeartsShow yes in theory, let me try it myself and get back to you. I’ve done this with patterns in standard recording mode, I’d do the same and make sure the global bpm for the project is at 80 bpm too. I then set count in to wait, it won’t record until you press your sample (80 bpm loop) and I make sure quantise is on but loop off plus the recording length to be what you want in this case 8 bars for the sample. Then hit record and it should snap your sample to the very beginning and play the loop over and over. I assume this is what you want in TR mode. I’ve never tried it but I’ll give it a go and let you know if I can make it work! 👍

@@nervouscooks I think I might have been keeping loop on. Oops
