Not all countries have an Eshop card, such as mine. We are very far from the US and Europe and any large Nintendo countries. Even buying the card online is difficult. And asking a local game store for an eshop card is expensive.

You can also do this via PC, since the Switch takes the funds from your Nintendo account. Of course you have to merge the Nintendo Network ID funds with your Nintendo account ones, like he showed in the video. But after that you can add them from your PC, or your phone, too. Hope this helps.

It honestly baffles me that Nintendo is shutting the eshop down for not only the Wii U, but also the 3ds. I understand it a little more for the Wii U’s sake considering the marketing failure it had, but the 3ds is such a fan favorite system, and for good reason. Virtual console capabilities, dual screens, 3D mode, full backwards compatibility with original DS games, just why Nintendo. Just leave all the E-shops open and make them all cross platform purchase capable.

for 3DS: Super Mario Maker, Tomodachi Life, Miitopia, Smash 3DS, X-Scape (DSiWare), Earthbound (available on New 3DS and Wii U too), and a buttload of Virtual Console games. There are a lot of cool freebies too.
