Thank you Derrick, I enjoyed your lecture. 😊😊
Yeah Derek you am!
This is great! I went to Geneseo in the 1980s and heard about the canal, but never learned much about it.

The last re-creation of the Erie Canal did not go across the Broad Street bridge in Rochester over the
Genesse river [the bridge used to be an aqueduct for both the original Erie Canal (b. 1817--1825) and
second re-creation of the Erie Canal (b. 1835--1862) -- now called the "OLD Erie Canal"] The Old Erie
Canal was upgraded until about 1900; when it was decided to build the third version of the Erie Canal.
During the last rebuilding of the Erie Canal (b. 1905--1918) --aka: The *Barge Canal* The Erie/Barge
canal was modernized until the 1970's, when the *Erie/Barge Canal* could no longer compete with the
newly built St. Lawrence Seaway (b. 1954 --1959)
The, then, "new" canal (i.e. Erie/Barge Canal) dipped southward, east of Rochester and crossed the
Genessee River south of (and upstream of) Rochester; then looped northward and westward to
continue to Buffalo.
