DIY Slide & Lock Waggler Adapter

- There are a number of locking waggler float adapters around, most of which do a good job, but they often have 2 prongs or legs to keep the float in place.
My homemade Sliding & Locking Waggler Adapters use only one leg and therefore provides a streamlined rig which casts well and reduces tangles. It is also very cheap and easy to make.

Great idea definitely going to make some
Great idea, the other brilliant thing about this is as you strike the float collapses giving you direct connection to the fish.
That's exactly right Graham. I have tried a number of versions of DIY Waggler attachments over the years, but this one seems to tick all the boxes for me. Thanks for your comments.
Love all the adaptions Den, makes fishing more personal
You hit the nail on the head with this comment Adrian. One of the main reasons i built everything was to personalise them for my own use.
Really good idea thankyou. I've copied it but instead of the plastic tube I use brass tube with brass bar inside to trap the mono link. By having a selection of lengths this does away with locking shot completely and i can change the 'loading' quickly too.
Thanks Timothy. I like your idea of the loadings too mate.
What a great idea I love these cheap ideas of making fishing affordable sport for anyone
Thanks Stephen. I like the idea of making it cheaper for people too. I also get a great deal of satisfaction from actually making the items themselves.
Thanks man 🙏🏻
i like this a lot ,,,,very clever idea thanks for the tip
Brilliant, very versatile. Thank you for sharing. Ray
Thanks for your comments Ray.
Clever system...
Thanks John
I’m going into looking into making some of those for making my link ledgers for chub fishing with cheese paste as they are reusable rarther than using float stops or tying knots in the main line or using the drennan ledger stops that seam to leave a flat spot in the line were they been attached
Hi Stephen. You may find that the line may tear through the silicone using this model if you cast hard with a heavy bomb, but with a bit of ingenuity I'm sure you can modify the idea to suit your needs.
I will be trying that as when I use the bought ones I seem to split the tube.
Yes. Some of the adapters available may not use sufficiently robust materials.
Hi Den. It’s Eddie using my wife’s account. What’s the advantage of this method over the normal method of just locking the float with a shot at either side. Thanks.
Hi Eddie. It just means you can use a loaded waggler and do away with most of the locking shot because the adapter holds the float in place.
Nice one Den. I went to a bike shop for some silicone tube and was met with bewilderment. So bought some from the tackle shop for an exorbitant amount. Ah well. Just wondering, tried my hand at a cage feeder. Gave it a whirl and then promptly binned it. Stainless steel maketh a crap feeder. You ever turned your mind to one?
Thanks for your comments Ross. You need to find one of those really old bicycle shops which look like they have never been tidied up and the owner is about 90. Lol. Also, make sure you ask for Valve Rubber, not Silicone Rubber. The stuff you bought from the tackle may be OK if it has a really thick wall, but if it's just the standard stuff, it will probably fall apart very quickly.
I looked at the tubing from an old Drennan Delicaty catapult and this might do the trick for you, but I haven't tested it yet. You would need to use the thickest elastic though.
As for cage feeders, I have made some using stainless steel and they came out OK. I bought some 6mm mesh at the DIY Store and some strip lead. I think I will do a quick video on how I made them sometime in the next few weeks. I have a lot on at the moment, so it may be after Christmas before I can get around to it.
Sadly it’s thin silicone and sadder still - very short...The Complete Angler chain here in Melbourne gives nothing away, but I will use it for something probably garfish related. I have fooled around with feeders over the years, but never really settled comfortably down with them, other than some wire spring styled ones I made that proved to be dynamite on the King George whiting. The latest, failed cage feeder creation proved to be too big and clunky and did not turn on the local roach population one whit. Think they are still laughing, but I have been absorbed by the way they use the method feeders in the UK. Being an avid diy’er, I think they may well be beyond my pay grade though. Be very keen to see what you come up with, whatever style that may be. Best wishes to you and yours for the holiday season too.
@@rossmcleod7983 Thanks Ross. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and your family too. If you ever order tackle from the UK, I suggest you use Billy Clarke Tackle. They may well have some thick walled silicone. I am away until tomorrow, but I will check to see if the Delicaty elastic would work when I get back.
Hi Den,I'm thinking of making a 'Kelly klip' float adapter, would you have a diagram of the float adapter?
They say thread the line through, but there are no instructions on how to do it,and which way the line needs to go through the adapter.
Hi Stan. I've never used one I'm afraid, but have a look at this video which could help: ua-cam.com/video/hcAGRaoW8ps/v-deo.html&ab_channel=LureFactors I know he is using it for a Pike Float, but the way it's used is the same for a waggler.
@@FishingwithDen Thanks Den,I managed to pause the vid in order to get a look at the method of threading the line.I'm pretty sure I'll be able to make one if I bend a tube with a lighter, and add a swivel.I might use a feeder and pop up boilie with a weight a few inches from the hook, with an inline lead on the setup.
Could I use a plastic lollipop stick
I've never tried one Mick, but if it sinks and it's quite robust, I don't see why not.
