i have a ms20 MKI, a MS20 mini and a MS20M - they all sound different. If i copy a patch from yt, i get different result on each of them. I think it also has to do with calibration of the machines. Sometimes some knobs just seem to go till 9 while other model ms 20 go to 11 if you understand what i mean, fully turned up.
The Korg-35 filter is really a rude, wild beast. Nothing else sounds like it. I love how it distorts when I have both oscillators detuned. I wonder why Korg switched from the 35 to the OTA-based filter. By giving it a fairly generic filter, I feel the synth loses character in the process. Not that I don’t like standard OTA filters, but the 35 was unique. Thanks for the comparison.
In all honesty I'm torn between the 2 . The OTA defo sounds more refined and a less crunchy sounding especially on the resonance overtones. Both are lovely. The OTA seems to cut the low end a bit more deeper almost giving you a bass boost . Like a skateboarder descending a steep half pipe.
Hi, no I have not, but it was when I briefly had a Behringer K2 that I got curious since I didn't think it sounded like how I remembered at all. So I decided on getting a vintage again (the OTA, the K35 is from a friend of mine) To me all clones sound OK, but if you want a MS20 only a MS20 will do. :)
Thanks! No, not really. The screw is for fastening the heatsink. The regulators/PSU are right behind there. The OTA board is attached with plastic stand-offs further to the left. But it seems that they started with the screw around the same time when they revised the PCB for the new filter. So IMO - pretty accurate, but not 100%.
2:16 is all you need to know ! Great comparison !
Thanks, great demo.

thumb-up for rubberband :-)

Would love to see you handling the ms20/ms50 combo
Thanks for the great comparison!
Thanks for taking the time sharing!
Thanks for doing this!
Great work!
thanks for posting this, great comparison. Have you tried both of these against the newer Korg MS-20 FS?

Grrrrreat demo! So that front panel screw for OTA daughter board is a valid determination detail?

My Rev1 with Korg35 filter has the screw also.
i mean cmon... k35 all day
