my favorite film, absolute masterpiece
Same
In the beginning: "This is Taipei"
Actually that scene is of NJ in a cab in Tokyo
I stopped this video as soon as I notice this.
U didnt have to they look really simolar.. tokyo and taipei..
i guess im randomly asking but does any of you know of a trick to log back into an Instagram account?
I stupidly lost my password. I would love any tips you can offer me!
@Oscar Angelo Instablaster ;)
Best movie of the 21st century in my opinion
@Anton X Meh, almost everyone considers 2000 as 21st century, it's even standard for ISO (International Organization for Standardization). I know the argument about the year 0 not existing but it's just mathematical masturbation, it doesn't matter culturally or even lawfully. Every year with a 0 begins a new decade.
I gotta go with parasite
@@tikiproductions9875 meh
@@redefinedliving5974 Fair enough
It's definitely the most underrated one. Can't believe that it didn't even got nominated as Best Foreign Film at the Oscars that year.
Spectacular video essay, looking forward to see more of your work!
Wow your review of his work is truest impressive to me! Thank you for doing this!
Just wanted to thank you for this great analysis. You gave an answer to all the pieces of the puzzle I couldn't place together. I hope you do more essays; I'd love to see one about Tarkovsky's films.
The footage of the offices were of Tokyo not Taipei.
One of my favorite movies, I love it so much
This is a great video, good work.
Amazing analysis.
beautiful!
So beautiful !
Thank you, I love Asian cinema - Duk, Wai, Hsiao, this is something to add to my list of movies to study. I really liked this essay and the ideas presented. I even wrote down some quotations for inspiration. Thanks again, keep up the great work.

nice video essay
ok damn u nailed this
thankn you
Thanks for sharing this video essay to the ones who love Yang's films.
Isn't that lady who generates this show Judy Ongg?? This video is such a treasure...
I don't know if it is just me but the audio is messed up, I can hear the music but not your analysis :(
this film is much more understandable if you're mature enough about life
Ok calm down faker
This is definitely true. I’m 22 and love it but most people my age in my country would probably dismiss it very quickly. It’s a matter of where people are at in their lives and what their mindsets are like I suppose
Does anyone know what microphones were used for this film? It may seem like a minor question in the midst of everything, but I’m wondering if there’s some information on that…
I think you needa come back and make more videos. This was great.
Thanks! I absolutely need to find time to do more, I love them.
@@viasolus Please!
7:35 "They mumble confessions _in a fur dare look"?_ What does he say there?
i think "avoid their look"? not sure at all tho
"and avert their look."
@@harrisonangsten9805 Thanks! I would have never guessed it.
At video 🎉
Your narration audio is all screwed up. I watched this in a film class and it was fine for some reason
Kabutoes was wondering about this. Were you watching on your phone?
Could that even make a difference...
W H T V R yeah it was on the phone
I've never seen that matter on any other video, but it works fine on a PC. super weird
Those opening shots you describe as Taipei are in fact Tokyo.
That's so embarassing! Thanks for the catch.
what is the music? please!
At the end? That is Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata
Hey man, great video essay. Impressive editing and cuts about one of my favorite movies. Some constructive criticism: try not to obfuscate the point you're trying to make with poetic flourishes. I had to replay parts of the video several times because there seemed to be a lot to unpack with what you were saying (namely, "bringing the cloud inside" and the very end, about how "all windows are mirrors"). But videos in the modern age are not a friendly medium for re-watching or "re-reading," unlike actual written essays or novels. I'm a fan of the poetic language, but it would help to be a little clearer, especially in a video. Who knows, maybe you were going for that.
Anyway, for the most part, I enjoyed the video. Hope you make more stuff soon!
Hey, do you mind sharing other favourite movies of yours?
Boss Huang is not a mainlander. It was revealed he is a Taiwan legislator... how is he a representation of mainland economy...know ur stuff man
The video is good but i hate your voice. What did you do to it? I listen it on headphones and it gives me a headache
