I made an editing error and accidentally cut out the part where I added the vanilla extract. It's added immediately after taking the pudding off the heat and it's 1&1/2 teaspoons. Also, some folk like the music, some don't....If you don't want to hear it then simply turn the sound off. People saying that they just can't finish the vid because of the music are silly.

@@MeYou-kw2xf when you have a gas stove you want to put it at a simmering height...the key is to keep stirring and bring it to a slow 1 bubble boil. Then stir for 1min more and cut off the gas.

There is a trick that i use so i wont be stirring forever, I warm up the milk and eggs, not boiling hot but just enough to get it hot, but not smoking hot, ( but stil stirring) then i add the sugar /flour mixture, trust me it will thicken fast in no time lol, less time, great vid... I love the music!

You could also out the pan in another pan with water. Like a double boiler. My Mom has been making this for all my life. I can remember her adding condensed milk too. Making it thicker. But i think I'm going to try it like this. She passed and of course I didn't write anything down. But the way he has made it looks just like the stuff she added. Thank you for the video.

The main difference is the ingredients. The way i do it may take a bit longer but if you made some my way and then made some from a mix, you'd have to agree that there is no camparison. It's kinda like the difference between instant coffee vs fresh brewed coffee.
My way = milk, egg yolk, sugar, flour & vanilla.
Thiers= Sugar, Dextrose, Modified Food Starch, Artificial Flavor, Salt, Disodium Phosphate and Tetrasodium Pyrophosphate, Mono- and Diglycerides,Artificial Color, BHA (Preservative).

All stoves definitely are not the same. My stove is old. Your "4" was my "6". I stirred for a very long time before realizing that. I also think using 2% instead of whole milk increased stirring time. Anyway, the results were awesome. Christmas day + all stores closed + last batch of ingredients made me stick with it longer than I normally would've. I ruined 2 batches on 2 OTHER, less clear recipes that did NOT emphasize constant stirring. When this actually turned to creamy pretty pudding, I was amazed lol. Your video was very helpful; thanks for sharing the recipe.

You did a very good job making this recipe for old-fashioned banana pudding from scratch. I make a version very similar, the only difference is I use a richer milk, always use real vanilla extract, butter, and I use a double boiler to prevent burning. Loved the way you decorated it too. This scratch recipe will taste ten times better than the recipe for "Not your Mama's banana pudding."

    • @mrhymer95
      @mrhymer95 9 років тому

Kandi Yams I used evaporated milk to make the custard, and not to be confused with sweetened condensed milk. Adding sugar, eggs, and stirring until thicken. Wipe line on back of spoon to check for doneness. Remove from heat, add 1 Tbsp butter and 1 tsp of real vaniila. Let cool before assembling dessert.

I lost my father’s receipe for banana pudding. My father used a double boiler to make the pudding, he said, it was less likely to burn. The ingredients are the same, just assembled differently. So glad I found this receipe, thanks. I had to learn to make meringue from the egg whites, my husband’s mother used to add meringue on top of her
banana pudding and brown in the oven on broil. Oh, a homemade double boiler is any pot or skillet that can hold an adequate of amount of water, that will not spill out, when the pot containing the pudding ingredients, is added. This boiler is put on a medium heat and pudding is stirred until the desired thickness. Double boiler used to be part of a
cook ware set. I might have just given away my age.

My mom used to make it like this and I can tell you there is no comparison between store pudding in a box and this ! It is delicious . Only thing she did different was to take the egg whites that were not used in the pudding and add a little sugar and whip them into a meringue which she topped the whole thing with. Then she would lightly toast the meringue in the oven and Voila ! Perfection.

I did the Nilla Wafers homemade from scratch recipe on the box. But I wanted banana pudding with actual bananas in it. Not vanilla pudding with cut up bananas and wafers. So instead of vanilla added. I just mashed up actual bananas and added it into the actual pudding. It is delicious. But I used his video because I didn't have a double boiler, only a sauce pan. Which is what he used an just followed what he did as instruction guide. So it worked out perfectly. Now I can make a homemade from scratch actual banana pudding poke cake for my daughters 7th birthday next month.

Thank you so much... I was raised on the Original banana pudding (the kind you just made) nothing is wrong with the new age except it’s too sweet, from the box, and majority of the time don’t have any bananas. Thanks again

i almost make mine like this. how ever i use the white part of the egg put sugar and mix it to a merain. put that on the top and put it in the oven til light brown. i only added a teaspoon of flour to the mix and a tablespoon of vanilla while its on the stove. my mom and dad make it this way. yours look cool too!

Easy and simple. Great recipe and great illustration. This is my 3rd time making this and it is always a hit. I do add a few additional items to my pudding but this is great.

Great recipe! A little easier (for me) to mix dry ingredients in the sauce pan, then gradually add the mixed liquid ingredients - less likely to make lumps ;-0 !! This type of cooked pudding also makes great home-made ice cream base - - -
