FOR THE RECORD: That was NOT a tuba; that was a double-belled Euphonium. That is, quite possibly, the first time this super rare instrument has ever been used on a ‘pop’ tune in the history of pop music.
I’ve played one… they are a blast you have an extra valve to send the sound to one bell or the other . The small bell is more trombone sounding and the larger bell is more tuba toned.
They write music for all their credits, the credits are always comedy gold. DL is three studio monsters from Sweden who got together to play the random impossible stuff running through their minds that no one in their right minds would let them do on somebody else’s recording session. The band was formed with the thought… more is MORE.
I think it's been 2 yrs since I'd first heard and watched this video. I gotta tell ya, I was so struck by it that I just broke down and cried. I mean good music and song always emotionally move me. I've always been that way. I still cry listening to and watching it. And seeing your "wife" moving in her seat and smiling just added a whole other jump to the experience. There's not much things better than seeing people get happy over some really good music and song.
Thank you so much for your response. I can remember the Thriller album from my childhood as well. My sister actually had it on her wall in her bedroom. I definitely can't sit still to any good music and my good friend Clay understands completely. Thanks for getting dirty with us, haha!
These insane talented musicians changed the rhythmic arrangement of that iconic song from a four--four to a triplet shuffle (i hope this is correct english) - this gives the song a completly different flow. The phrasing of the lyrics and the melody of the singing appear in this bumping and rolling rhythm, and you get the feeling that this should have ever been played like they do. This is genious musicianship and incredible arrangement... I like it more than the original song!
Oh man, loved your reaction to this one, the happiest Thriller of all ☺️ Also your analyses of it afterwards… They pull your head off and then put it back on the wrong way around 🤣 but just in the best way possible! They changed the groove, so that’s what you might’ve felt there, in the ‘heavier’ feel of it, and in that different bass line-. The background story to this: During the COVID years, Cory Wong, funk guitarist extraordinaire, contacted Dirty Loops and suggested to do a Thriller cover together. Yeah, why not, said Jonah. Well let’s do a whole album together, said Cory :) The result was Turbo. Four of the tracks have a video attached to them, Thriller being one of them. They’re all fire. Some are instrumental tracks only, some feature Jonah on vocals as well. ‘Follow the Light’ is one of those, with standout vocals. His voice is just so versatile. And he’s got the Michale Jackson as well as the Stevie vibes going here 🔥 The horn section were brought in by Cory, and consist of some of Prince’s Hornheads, top musicians. In that eerie middle section, they swap some instruments to create that different vibe and add to the genre-busting spiel, -sooo good! To top it all off, the recording and even that video were shot on two different continents at the time. The Loops and Cory had never met in person by then. Cory and his horns recorded and filmed in the US, Dirty Looos did their bit in Sweden. They bought identical props, agreed on the same lighting and camera angles, even the same type of camera, and then edited it all together afterwards. Aron (drums) did all the visual editing, as he always does. There’s an interview on Cory’s site with Henrik Linder (bass), and they chat about the making of it. You’ll find it on ‘Cory Wong and the Wong Notes’ podcast. I’m glad you finally got to watch this mad cover. (Yes, their sense of fun and happiness is outrageous! No wonder we all love these dudes ☺️) Dive into the credits on your own, they’re funny. The music for the credits: someone said that, apart from the Halloweeny bits, they were quoting from the Monster Inc. theme or credits (by the brilliant Randy Newman) but I’m not sure… Thanks for featuring this 🙏 “Follow The Light” next! 🔥☺️🔥
Thanks again for all this info! Glad you liked our reaction. This was a fun one for sure. Thats prince’s horns! I love it. That’s extraordinary that this was done in 2 different places 🤯
The brass section is the Hornheads. They used to play with Prince. The backing harmonies are good because it's Jonah who does them. He tend to harmonise quite well with his own voice. More of this is to be found in Follow the Light (not a cover). The ending music is quite fittingly based on the soundtrack from Monsters, Inc. The ending credit "Livet är en fest!!!!!!!!!" is "Life's a party!!!!!!!!" in their native Swedish language.
Just totally amazing every time, leaves you wanting more - and with a big smile! 🙂There are actually musicians that can play like this!!! In this day and crappy-autotune-age...
If no one has told you, they are not in the same studio. Cory Wong and the horn heads are in Minnesota and Dirty Loops are in Sweden. It has been spliced together by the Drummer Aron Mellergard. Great video work!!!!
@@neighborsue You have missed a very good musician by the name Tommy Johansson. He is guitarist in the band Sabathon from Sweden, but he do his own covers in UA-cam. Listen to She's Gone or You raise me up. Regards: Lasse
Great reaction - and nice you took a bit of time to look at the credits. Plant Supervisor: Monstera Aloe-Vera... I just love their sense of humor (on top of the out-of-this-world musicianship)!
The bass is using a funky swing/shuffle, it’s not the straight count of the original. But that’s what makes it their version and not a straight copy. As an aside, the horns with a honorable mention to the double bell Eupohonium are everything!
Filmed in two locations (Sweden & Minneapolis) then great editing make it look like they are together in a showdown on stage. Love these collaborations with Cory Wong.❤
Cory Wong and the horns are in Minnesota and Dirty Loops are in Sweden. The video has then been spliced together by Aron the drummer. You can't tell crazy huh!
I heard someone said the music in the credits is from the movie Monsters Inc but I don’t know 🤷🏻♀️ It wouldn’t surprise me though 😄 They don’t choose music randomly without a sense of humor 🙂
Listen for example at the song Bitten by the kitten and listen to the music and read the text in the credits 😂 ua-cam.com/video/FjFnPVHoqKY/v-deo.htmlsi=kBBrMTsIe19dvvx3 The song is from a project with only Henrik & Aron. Think you will appreciate those songs and their skills!
Love your reactions but man,did you hit the jackpott in the nugget of joy and beaty that is your companion!Lots of love and wishes for the best coming at you from Sweden!
You guys really need to check out Follow the light. They are playing with Cory Wong and his horn section. They record the video in 2 different locations at the same time. Dirty Loops are in Sweden and Cory Wong are in the states, cant remember where. And in follow the light will Henrik the bass player impress you guys more. So pleasr check it out

Absolutely insane. He sings like MJ combined with Stevie Wonder and Brian Mcknight. The band is so tight it cannot get any tighter.
